  1. You and I may not thing that Wacko-Jacko is not newsworthy, but there must be many people who do. I think the media knows its business well enough to know that lots of people are interested in that sort of garbage. Or am I wrong about that?
  2. I believe that it is the mission of the media to be liberal in the traditional sense of the word. I mean "liberal" as opposed to "biased". Outside of opinion, the media should strive to present all sides and let the public make up it's mind. It's not the job of the media to persuade or to support the government's view point. In fact, it is the job of the media to question the government. The media is supposed to be the watchdog of our democracy.
  3. A great Andrew Sullivan quote, courtesy of dryad: THE POLITICAL ANALOGY "I was trying to explain last night to a non-Catholic just how dumb-struck many reformist Catholics are by the elevation of Ratzinger. And then I found a way to explain. This is the religious equivalent of having had four terms of George W. Bush only to find that his successor as president is Karl Rove. Get it now?"
  4. If I had to guess, I'd have to say it is probably involved in stowing your spare tire or car jack.
  5. why didnt YOU cut in front of him too instead of glomming on to his ass bumper and then crying about it? What makes you think I didn't do that?
  6. That is a classic cc.com quote. I only wish I'd thought of it first.
  7. How about the guy in the BMW who was using his PDA as he was driving over the ship canal bridge in the left lane with a big gap in front of him. He was letting all the lazy dickheads cut in front of him (and me). Screw that. I don't let those SUV get in front of me.
  8. Muffy, Alex, and Pope are still around. The others are gone. Many have wished for a more polite cc.com and they got their wish, but it is also a much less compelling cc.com.
  9. Do you think the FS would allow amateurs to work on the road? They may have liability concerns.
  10. I met a couple old timers on TUIB, which I had hoped to climb. I told them I'd done it once before. They said, go climb Air Guitar, 5.10a. I said, "I've never led at that grade before." They said, "Oh, Air Guitar is easier than TUIB. You shouldn't have any trouble with it if you've already done TUIB". They were right.
  11. And yet, in all probability, a better man than you. Probably. I let my Nazi party dues lapse once.
  12. Former Hitler Youth. Right on!
  13. They're a joke.
  14. If one were really interested in fighting SUVs the best way to do that would be to lobby in favor of higher gas taxes or use tax based on vehicle weight.
  15. Chemists were pretty damn cavalier with the risk of poisioning in those days. Familiarity breeds complacence. A lot of them died from poisoning or cancer, for example Mme. Curie and Emil Fisher. Lord knows how Hoffman calculated what dose he should give himself based on a completely unknown amount absorbed through the skin. LSD must have a fairly wide "therapeutic window", if you excuse my use of the term for a drug with no legitimate medicinal use.
  16. Classic!
  17. When I first led that climb, I remember I was so pumped that those last ten feet were the hardest part of the climb. I so badly wanted the clean on sight. I wanted to slump onto a cam and yell take. I wouln't let myself. I hauled my sorry ass onto the top with the very last energy I had. It was a great moment for me.
  18. Nutritional supplements are all derived from natural products, usually plant extracts, ephedra for example. Drugs are synthetic or semi-synthetic.
  19. You don't have to go to Vantage for that.
  20. The 1994 law is simply a bad law. The FDA exists because of all the people who used to die from taking "patent medicines" that were not tested or proven safe. Congress should repeal the law or amend it.
  21. Sounds like a good day to visit Middle East Wall. That should be out of the wind.
  22. Glacier ice as "overburden", interesting.
  23. Come on, Peter, the conservatives are with the Judge on this one. It almost sounds as though you are critical. The FDA is bad for business, is it not?
