I'm strictly talking about my mother after my father died of a brain tumor. With my brothers and mother - I've been to lots of National Parks and campgrounds when were were...cough* cough* between homes. My wife refers to it as a homeless period, yet we were not homeless as long as we were self-sufficient, had each other, and had that canvas roof to keep us dry. If you are not paying rent and living in the woods, the gas price, although not to be ignored, is negligible. I have met plenty of others in similar circumstances as well. If you want to pay extra, nothing is stopping you. You're rich, flip them a $50. I believe, like you say in your last paragraph, that our taxes should be covering the bulk of the cost. As far as "histrionics", I can only say that the ME FIRST or ME ONLY attitude I see exibited by Debra and other places, is very very disturbing and troubling to me as a citizen and I see that attitude increasing as time goes on. It portends bad for the country and our children's heritage I am afraid.

It ain't gonna be pretty I expect when it starts, and you can't remove them like folks think, because they are rusted in there tight. They start this within a short time and are not removable without snapping the bolt. Then the placement is screwed. Better just to plug in the stainless first IMO. The cost is like $3 bucks for a 1/2" diameter SS wedge anchor vs what? Not a lot less for a steel 5 piece. Fortunately, we don't see many hangers fail, in fact, I don't remember a 3/8" hanger failing - especially a commercially made one (some of the old various 1/4 did) At least there aren't many Kong hangers in the field.....one more thing to keep an eye out for. I had spotted a red Poison Oak leaf on the ground as I solo topped out and was coiling the rope and was all like, WTF?....huh... where did this come from? Further examination led to the tree, the leaves were so high it was unidentifiable visually....except for that leaf on the ground and the fact that I've seen some get close to that size. The one Jim and those guys pulled doan at Ozone was 40 feet high and had a base stalk the size of a mans wrist.
