    Wall pulley

I don't think Petzl makes the wall hauler (after they bought out Rock Exotica) any more, so if that's what you decide on, you'll have to find a second hand one. There are also some made by Ushba, I have heard that the Hogwauler is the deluxe wall pulley. This web page has scads of info on all sorts of haulers, including the Pro traxion, and the Wall Hauler.

    The beer? or the Powder?
  3. $1000/hour is a good place to start, more if it's a big bird.
  4. No offense taken, like I said, I am just wanting people to be aware of all the opinions before they make their decisions. Maybe we can ski together sometime, and I can try one of these X-1 thingys.
  5. OK, I am not trying to bash Ortovox here, but I am sure it is beginning to look that way, even more so by the end of this... an unbiased source for sure I believe he is actually a retailer, a fact that he been open about, and that he was also planning to be a seller of the X-1, until he tested it out, and found the problems he notes. Maybe none to Marcus, but this incident I refer to was first hand from someone I trust a lot. Because last years had no problems? Once you have a signal there is always something to process. I find the processing lag to be a problem with all digital beacons, not just the X-1, something that needs to be gotten used to for those of us who are familiar with the analog system. Some of us are more adaptable than others, and some beacons are quicker than others. That is good to know. I guess he is not counting the ones that retailers have returned then... So, as I said, I am not trying to bash Ortovox here. I think their F1 is still a standard setting beacon, although the SOS is pretty close, and maybe better in some ways. I still have an F1 in my gear box, and I still use it. I am, however, trying to alert people to other information out there, and let them make up their own minds. I know that from what I have read and heard, I would be hesitant to buy an X-1, and I would not neccesarily feel confident if my partner showed up with one. I would still like to try one out myself though. Any one wanna sponsor me?

Coz they can. I've never seen a bondage skier lay out some sexy, artisitic curves when the going gets good though... More's the loss for them.
  9. Well, by your definition, the ARVA 9000 would be a "semi-directional" digital beacon. It has an arrow that lines you up with the flux line and points you in a direction parallel to it. You then move along that line while watching the digital distance read-out. If it decreases, you're going in the right direction toward the subject. If the value increases, you're 180 degrees off, so turn around and go the other way. You do not really need to sweep to determine the direction of search with this device, and you definitely do not need to stop at all. Yes, all beacons are semi directional, no? I mean the F1, even the pieps can be used for a flux line search, they all have signal strength indicators, and an "arrow that lines you up with the flux line." What I meant to say, and my little bold edit may help clarify, is that I would only class a beacon as directional if it has an array of lights or other indicators that indicate which direction the flux line is stronger Just because you are on the flux line does not mean that you are headed towards the victim, except in a few lucky positions. As you get closer, you are going to make a curved path in towards the burial, no matter what beacon you are using, unless you are using a grid search. From the Arva website (bold mine), under usage instructions: I get the feeling that you have an Arva though, am I correct? Have you had lots of time to practice with it? I have not had time to play with one, other than learning how to turn it on and off. Perhaps there is something I am not picking up on here.

    Anyone Rip DVDs?

I have a dvd drive, that's where I ripped it with, now it's sitting on my drive, and I can only play sections of it, it won't play like a normal disc. May be that me hardware or software is too old. MisterE, not my fault that your joke was lame.
