  1. FYI, I've found it really helpful to keep a log of both exercise and what I eat. Geeky, but it keeps me in the discipline so I won't quit.
  2. Hey Mike, Re: training schedules, I've got 3 that I printed out, and I've kinda been using a hybrid of the 3. Runnersworld.com has a good one. You can figure which equivalent week you're currently on, and work into the schedule. Halhigdon.com has a longer, more-involved schedule. Then I have a 3rd that I don't see a name on (got all 3 with a google search). Good luck!
  3. Yeah, the G-man used to do great college debates with Tomothy Leary. Hey, I bet ol' DFA saw one of those.
  4. Actually, trask, looking at your avatar, that guy kinda looks like you. Put that together with your "location," and I must ask you...were you in the Village People 25 year ago?

  6. DFA joins the protest...
  7. The half-marathon I'm running in Dec will be my first...no doubt we can both muscle through the races when the time comes. There are several good 'novice training schedules' on the web, and I'm loosely following one of those. I've told my bro that if I run a full marathon for him, he's got to rope up and climb something glaciated with me. His reply is "Bullshit-I'm afraid of heights."
  8. I think Scot't-rex might like one of those ACCLIM-8s.
  9. I got pinned down in a 15-minute wind epic at Panorama Pt once.
  10. I've found a tool that might help get DFA into some of those high-altitude climbs that he likes to read about...the INSTANT-ACCLIM-8: Comes in a neat little can, stows in yr pack. Pull it out at Muir, and you can enjoy the hut smoke-free!
  11. Mike M, quote: I'm running a half marathon in March. I'll check the date. I don't believe it's the 8th-9th so if you want some company walking up Washington another winter ascent sounds good to me! Seeing as how the half marathon goes I'll decide weather or not to try the Boston Marathon in April! It may be I'm biting off too much to chew?!!Sounds good in March. BTW, are you just getting into this marathon thing? You must be fast, if you can qualify for Boston. I'm not historically a runner, but have been suckered into it by my bro (53). He's always been just a couple of minutes shy of qualifying for Boston.
  12. I rather enjoy the pontifications of that smarmy old hippie.
  13. Mike, I'll be in Boston the week of Mar 10, so I was think Mar 8-9 for Mt. Washington, if the weather cooperates. I'm not an ice climber, unfortunately...made up my mind that 42 is too old to start that one. You mentioned you were running a marathon in Jan. I'm going to try my first one that next weekend in March (15th).
  14. Yep, if you've ever hunted waterfowl, you have an affection for it even 20 years later. Some of the best memories of being with my dad were sittin' there with him in a duckblind. Had a great retriever, who was in extasy when the ducks were flying. Froze my ass off several times, too, but that was good alpine training!
  15. Okay, Lammy, you're right. But here's a legit excuse. I don't need another sport where I have to hide gear from my wife, because she'll either be scared or take out more ins. (or both)...
  16. Motivated by this week's super-light speed ascent of Rainier, Trask will attempt to set a record of his own, making a summit bid traveling as light as has ever been attempted on the DC route. In his loincloth he will be carrying...
  17. You two take a perfectly good poop thread and turn it into something really nasty...
  18. The worst is the Tar Baby. That's the one that requires a shower after you get home.
  19. the Maelstrom
  20. Hey Mike, I'm in Boston every year in March...was thinking about Mt. Washington then...ever done it in snow? Watching the weather on the summit station, it sounds pretty wild a lot of the time.
  21. What the hell went on last night? The dark side of communism is looming over this board...
  22. I totally agree: Nothing matters except fun and climbing my lady.
  23. knobs.
