Keep it. Losing and finding booty is part of climbing. Finding and verifying the losing party will likely give you more pain than joy.

Not sure what caliber was fired at Tommy Caldwell in E. Europe while on a wall. His kidnapping was thwarted by his gun: pushing kidnapper off a cliff.

If you are not experienced at altitude a day at 5K after 0K helps reduce the uncertainty of 10K+. Some have no trouble others do regardless of fitness. Take a jug of alcohol because a night in a hut with strangers can be more taxing than the climb.

Willis Wall. And hope you survive. Step out of the boot pack on trade routes and call it a variation. Like ivan said hope for an eruption so it will blow its top off like St. Helens and it becomes a walkup.

Trip: Pennsylvania - Manufracture Date: 3/13/2000 Trip Report: This is a true story. There is a route in Bellefonte Pennsylvania in a quarry. Since it is a quarry no feds or narcs or local gangsters were involved to quarrel with. When I did it lycra was just in so no weapons were involved as they would be easily ascertained. Some natural lines exist. But one blank wall at about 80 deg. had no handholds. Whatsoever. Blame it on the people who did the demo work. They can sit on their asses in equipment and could not climb 4.2 but that is beside the point. Dude comes in and uses a cutting blade to create a perfect crack. Imagine an artist with a clean slate on a blank wall with a legal cutter. What size? Tips, fingers, small hands, thick hands. Not offwidth or he would be shot. He chose medium fingers. About 100'. 5.9. Gear Notes: Bolts only because of the rock. Approach Notes: 15 minutes hike. Quarry is frequented by locals that dive in instead of climb. Clothing might be optional.

[TR] Leavenworth - Snow Creek Wall - Outer Space 3/7/2015
matt_warfield replied to Alisse's topic in Alpine Lakes
Thanks for the TR. Mild winter makes for lots of ticks. They like warm moist areas of the body. Could be worse than scalp! I speak from experience. Water on route and icy descent sounds like an adventure. Go in summer on a weekend and enjoy the route with about 50 of your new friends. I can't imagine Edge of Space with even a hint of moisture. -
Solo TR requires complete gear OCD. Add a cell phone to requirements in case of disaster. I prefer a belayer with 10' of slack out and a limp hand on an ATC while chatting with nearby climbers.

Seattle and beyond...Visiting 3/29-4/10
matt_warfield replied to WorldClimber1234's topic in Climbing Partners
A mild winter has made for iffy ice conditions unless a cold snap happens. Skiing also iffy. Think rock climbing. Early season this year. Lots of rock within 2 hrs. drive. Go to a local mountain shop to get best beta and buy a guidebook. Destinations to ask about: Index, Leavenworth, North Bend, Smith, Squamish. You could use your entire trip at any one of those areas for rock. -

Thanks for posting. cc.com welcomes rock climbing as well as alpine. Impressive send. Logistics are quite something to film an ascent, yes? -
Low Snow Year's Impact on Summer Volcano Climbing
matt_warfield replied to dbriggs5's topic in Climber's Board
Would have been better to state your intent right off the bat rather than bring glaciers into it. Bag some peaks, have a great summer, don't worry about whether its a glacier or a snowfield or rocks. Focus is key. -
Low Snow Year's Impact on Summer Volcano Climbing
matt_warfield replied to dbriggs5's topic in Climber's Board
There are ongoing multiyear scientific glacial ice measurement programs in the state. But you are students so I'm sure your research includes that as well as aerial photos through the years. As has been said, climbing these routes in a low snow year may suit your documentary but may not add much to science. Used to be permanent snowfield is the new glacier. Now its rock is the new permanent snowfield. -

conservative legislator in MT wants to ban yoga pants. What is the world coming to. Key thing is: don't do this and don't do that and you are just fine. -
I was there too, my wife gave me a smack on the head for look'n LOL I heard a story about a guy who left his camera at the cliffs and got it back via the message board with some moon shots and topless pictures.

To the media and uninformed it is just hiking so start there. Ask them back to describe the taste of chocolate. I like the environment, movement, and inspiration. I like to pull on things in potentially dangerous situations.
