  1. cavey, or anybody else that went in through eldorado...how much snow was in the upper eldorado and roush creek basins? Was there anything there to serve as a base for this weeks new snow, or are we basically starting from scratch? thanks
  2. I think that would depend a lot on how fast/well you ski
  3. Skisports and I clmbed washington today. icy it was not...crampons were not used. axes were nice to have. can't believe how little snow. lambone, are you still looking for a pic? Both of us took pics today.

Wait, I think I got the threads confused... ...150 this one, 100 the other? hehe..whatever
  5. Yeah, vanilla coke is ass, but I have to hand it to coke, at least it isn't pepsi blue...jeebus, what a mistake.

I refreshed, saw that posts was 100, and couldn't resist! Note that the other thread was 150, and I pagetopped that. It sat for a while at 150, I can't believe nobody jumped on it.

  8. Yeah, he's instrument rated, so I guess that isn't a problem. While I enjoy climbing in the mountains more too, I can't pass up a free plane ride when I almost never get the chance.
  9. Hehe...good call, DFA. Thankfully I dont have the motion sickness problem. I actually took lessons about 8 years ago that I got as a present from my folks. To make a long story short, I *love* flying but I can't afford it, so I'm pumped to be able to get up there! Dru, good call on the pickets, hopefully I can talk him into flying that far north. If we end up going up, I'll definitely post pics.
  10. It looks like I may have the opportunity to join my friend flying in his small plane tomorrow. He goes up basically for practice, so he's looking for company and will basically fly wherever his friends want to go. If anybody has flown a small plane over the cascades, what are particularlly cool places to visit that are particularly dramatic from the air? I was thinking the north cascades (of course) and maybe over near lake chelan?
  11. About how much can you spend? You can get a whole lot of laptop these days for not that much. It's the nice screen upgrades that really start raising the price. Though I'm sure a bunch of people will flame me, I think you get very little with a mac for the money, and I've always thought it's kind of a pain since 95% of the world runs on PCs. Just my 2 cents
  12. MONDAY THROUGH THURSDAY...MOSTLY CLOUDY WITH RAIN OR SNOW LIKELY SNOW LEVEL NEAR 5000 FEET. Hmm...looks like the desert northwest may finally get a bit of snow.
  13. dps makes a good point...any approach in the cascades that doesn't involve slide alder or devils club (or god forbid both) is alright in my book. God I hate slide alder...
  14. In defense of the approach, it really isn't *that* bad. It seems to have gotten a bad rap tho. At least it's a beautiful approcah, rather than a long boring approach.
  15. I've seen Rossi Rebel Kid's skis in 120cm -> 150cm lengths on sale for $80, brand new. I was seriously considering getting a pair of kiddie skis for an approach option.
  16. quote: Originally posted by MntnrMichael: As I understand it: MRNP says it is OK to hike in from 410 and ski down. But it is not acceptable to buy a ticket us the lifts, and then ski down the back side. This makes absolutely no sense to me. I am allowed to *hike* into the area, but I cannot purchase the right to ride a lift then ski into that exact same area? What the hell. I agree with everybody else and say "let them stop me." The Crystal Mountain ski patrol's only authority is to tell me I can't ride the lifts again, and to do that they'd have to ski after me and catch me. Which would mean getting stuck down on 410 with only alpine gear.
  17. Beck, where abouts were you? Agreed, the dakobes aren't very technical but i'd like to do the traverse from clarke to Glacier peak some time for the scenic beauty. I really love that area.
  18. More importantly, if it sucks reeeallly bad, you can always find someplace to drink in town.
  19. I'm not a brew meet attendee, so my vote doesn't count, but for what it's worth I have found that avoiding frat-boy hang outs is always a good strategy. :-) What pisses me off is a lot of the bars in my neighboorhood have become trendy frat-boy hangouts.
  20. OK, the unseasonably warm weather in october was tolerable, but now this crap has to stop. It was t-shirt weather today. The rain screwed up what little snow we have. It's starting to feel like a colorado ski season around here, gimme a break. BTW, does anybody know what a place like whistler, with a predetermined opening date does in a situation like this? Are they just going to open with a crappy snowbase and run what they can? I think it's even too warm for snowmaking to work.
