  1. slothrop, were you just up there this weekend? As of last weekend, they had closed the gate to prevent road damage.

    Puritans?

I'd be getting less sex and getting drunk less often, so I'd have to say no.
  3. Paco and I summited cutthroat via the e. fast coulior route early saturday. Conditions were thin, but good. I'll post some pics when I get them off my camera. The weather ended up working out perfectly with a clear and fairly cold night followed by most cloudy conditions saturday. If the sun had broken through things would have become an even bigger wallow-fest very quickly.
  4. Cool, looks likes fun. tons of skiers up near WA pass today. They looked to be having awesome turns on cutthroat, the kangaroo ridge area and blue lake/liberty bell.
  5. Tossup between the red and green, but I'd probably pick the red. more unclimbed schtuff in there.
  6. Trying to decide if I'm tired from today and will laze around tomorrow or if I'll take advantage of the not completely crappy weather and go out. Anybody have plans and looking for a partner?
  7. Tumalo?
  8. I pick up all the honies on my electric skooter.

    which vehicle?

Yeah, I was looking at that nissan too. freeclimb, one interesting thing to think about is the altitude you live at. I notice you are in UT. I'm not sure how it compares to CO (seems like it would be similar), but I know in CO, AWD turbocharged cars are very popular. forced induction (turbos) works very very well at altitude because the turbos are able to make up most of the different in atmospheric pressure that is lost at altitude. This is why if you take a turbo V6 car and a V8 car that are nearly identical speeds at sea level and have them race over a 10,000 foot pass, the turbocharged car will win.

    which vehicle?

I like the wagon, but the Jetta hp is only 115 (unless I go turbo, then the insurance does too). Do you know if the back seats fold flat and make enough room to sleep (like 6 feet worth)? Tjettas are pretty small for sleeping in, but you probably could. I can recommend either an A4 wagon or passat wagon however. Audi's AWD system is the best for snow/icy roads, no question. Subaru's is second. I've driven and owend multiple of both and neither will disappoint. VW's passat is the same system as AudiQuattro, alothough marketed as 4Motion. Both are dual torison diffs vs. open viscoused coupling on the subbies. The subbies, obviously, are a lot cheaper, so that's a benifit fer sure. The tacoma is cool, too, I've been lookinb, but the problem is the bed is ridiculously short on the 4 door model. Not long enough to sleep in, I determined.

    Which 4WD SUV?

You gotta love the fact that 4x4.org is hosting the SUV poser page. I'm sure those guys thing yuppie SUV drivers are just as bad as we all do.

    Which 4WD SUV?

Lowriders are equally dumb, yes. Well, not *quite*. But lowrider trucks are *really* dumb. Talk about a worthless vehicle.

    Which 4WD SUV?

Can somebody more familiar with modified trucks please explain to me how doing something as pictured in the giant excursion picture helps you with clearance? It seems you still have pretty much stock clearance below the axles. It seems all this does is raise the body up, eh?

    Which 4WD SUV?

There is one of these roaming around bellevue and suburbia. Me and a couple of friends had spoted it several times. One day my friend sees the thing pull up to a keg steakhouse where he was eating. The guy hopes out of it and my friend said he was pushing 5' 2" max.
  17. It's downright suicidal. I'm living on the edge or sumpin'
  18. NO, it's when you are soloing while you both holding on to the same ice tool. It's a great way for couple to solo together. Yeah, it didn't make sense. I was with another person so I meant we would just solo at the same time. simul-solo = solo with company.
  19. between 1st (hidden) and second we belayed 3 pitches. 1st was steep snow/neve, 2nd was mixed ice/snow, third was WI. Belay for 1st pitch was a pin and small cam. belay for 2nd pitch was rock gear (mostly cams), belay for 3rd was 2 ice tools and a screw. Only pro I placed on the whole of those 3 pitches was a green alien mid way up the 3rd (WI) pitch. At the time I did you may have been able to get a screw in. Between the 2nd and 3d coliour, we simuled. It depends on how comfortable you are in steep snow and some ice, but if I did it again, I would solo or simul solo it. Every pitch I led, I ended up just pitching out without pro since I didn't feel threatened and it was fairly hard to come by.
  20. russian climber.

  22. Yeah, Erik, you are right, but if I am compring two bags that weigh the same, cost the same, and both claim the same fill power, it would be nice to know which bag will actually keep me warmer. I too would like to pay as little as possible, but I dont like freezing either.
  23. Beck, would you like to elaborte why you think he is wrong? Maybe I'm weird, but I am interested in learning about these things. Whatever info I can get to buy better gear is good.
