  1. It's amazing to think that a few thousand years from now what's left of a copter will be spit out in the morain. It seems the ice would preserve it somewhat, right? I guess that means my gret-great-great-great-great-great-grandchildren can go looking for my "aincient" crampon at the bottom of the price glacier years from now!
  2. Who the hell would wear overboots to take a 2 hour walk on a glacier in the middle of summer!?
  3. dumb me. OK, well, that's good to know. From reading the sentence I thought he meant that the geese which are farmed differ in the quality of down they produce throughout the year.
  4. So, crackbolter, are you saying that my FF bag which I had made this past winter will, in fact, have slightly lower quality down than if I had waited until august to have it made?
  5. Yeah, finally one of the many cool cars that the japanese (and euro in some cases) market gets that we don't. Why? Cause they know we are obsessed with giant slow cars with automatic transmissions over here and not fast sporty cars. But, yes, in any event, the STI will kick ass. As does the Lancer EVO VIII.
  6. You seen it? Might be neat to check out...
  7. whoa, died? what party was this and when? I don't recall that. 8,000 meters is tough, but it doesn't always mean you can climb technical.
  8. No, not really Was wondering what the supposed ice pitches might look like now from somebody who has been up there this early. I'm thinking I'll find nothing but snow...
  9. It's probably the same down others are marketing as 800. FF admits that their 800 fill down often tests at 900 or higher. I wonder if maybe Marmot is further breaking down the down and using the very very best for these bags?
  10. Anybody done baker NR this time of year?
  11. the onion rules.
  12. Bastards... I love it how we can't be trusted to use sound judgement, but the slednecks can.
  13. I have a 50m x 9mm for glacier, 60m x 9.4 for alpine and 60m x 10.5 for cragging, etc. This is a good combo for me, of course it defeats the whole "one rope for all purposes" point of this thread.
  14. Who cares how shitty the weather on mount washington is, there is a trail to the top, a weather station and the east isn't very scenic. Thanks, i'll take the pleasent weathered cascades any time!
  15. They don't clear most the forest roads, they just wait until they melt out. Hmmm...I wonder how much a snowplow attachment for my car would cost?
  16. So somebody mentioned the road going up to the 8 mile and stuart/colchuck lake trailheads is gated now? WTF? It wasn't gated before when it was snow covered. How much sense does that make?
  17. So is that helicopter still lying, mangled up, on the carbon?
  18. it looks like choss. rock snob.
  19. I really doubt the Chiwawa River road is open. THat area gets more snow then you would think. I called about it 2 weeks ago or so and they said it was still fully open for snowmobile use. It's too bad too, the entiat range s.

    Hardcore!

brrrrrr... man, that's gotta be chilly getting out of there. I hope they keep that hut nice and warm. It would really suck to have to use the secondary hole.
  22. Lambone called it right, you have to decide what you are going to be using the bag for the most and see what manufactuer makes the best bag for those needs. My WInter bag is a FF model w/ epic fabric. It's awesome. My summer bag is a WM ultralight (whatever their 16oz model) is and I love that too. I went with who I thought had the better bag for those particularly uses. The cool thing about FF (maybe WM does this too?) is they'll pretty much make whatever you want them to make if you are willing to pay. -josh
  23. yes they are better tools for burning calories and testing the breathability of jackets and stuff. LOL. Yes, for the most part. THere have been a few scattered times, however, where I've wanted to go short distances through thick forests or up steeper terrain and haven't wanted to wear my touring boots. Approachs for ice climbs are a good example. If the snow is too deep to posthole, sometimes showshoes have worked better for me.
  24. Charlie, the climber's left side of aasgard pass is deceptively more dangerous that it looks in that picture. the upper left part is quite steep and has been loaded before when I have traveled up the pass and found the center safer. The tree coverage on that pass is so sparse that it offers very little terrain anchoring.
