Judging by the forecast for next week (more snow...at 2k to 2.5k freezing levels) it doesn't look like that is going to happen. I also can't imagine what it would be like slogging up in 6 or 7 feet of new snow.

I went to aspen a few years ago in january and they had, literally, about 8" of actually snow on the ground. And that was patchy at best. You could only ski on the runs where they made snow. So, anyway, locals kept asking where I was from, and I would respond seattle. "oh, awful snow there." "Um, actually, I checked and mount baker got 22" last night and has a 180" base already" This was the big snow year. I couldn't believe these morons had the adaucity to think aspen was great and other places sucked when you couldn't even ski 90% of there terrain because of so little snow. Aspen is where you go if you want to see rich, spoiled people and movie stars, not where you go to ski.

Do you have scholler pants? I have found that stretchy scholler pants that fit over my ski boots can't be beat!

bliss? I'm not sure I'd go that far. bliss would be an invisible, noiseless snowmobile that magically takes you uphill and is then again waiting for you at the bottom

God, TLG, isn't aspen awful? That is one place I'll never return to.

yeah, the avy is going to be awful for the next few days. luckily the freezing levels are working their way down rather than up so hopefully they'll be consolidation and releasing before saturday. Even then, the trees looks like it'll be the place to be.

Hehe....good point. Then again, in decent conditions the ski down from colchuck to mountaineer creek can be very fun tree skiing. the trail out is generally worthless however.

Well, for better or worse, I am going to try out the naxo bindings. I have decided to go for the one-rig setup, since I dont have the space or money to store 3 or 4 sets of skis any more. What sells me is that they can be used (easily) with either my AT boots or my downhill boots. Hopefully they work out. I'll give a review one way or another.

god, snowshoeing is horrendous. every once in a while, however, it has it's advantages. congrats on picking up AT, you'll have fun.

Crap...I wasn't sure how long you'd be with the snowmos. I hate those things. Davis sounds cool. I have a snowpark permit actually since I recieved a fucking ticket and figured it was cheaper to buy the permit and mail in a copy saying I forgot to display it. Dave, I got your PM. this is what the cascades are all about! Any adventurous souls interesting in doing a tour friday or saturday? I'm obviously thinking something with relatively low avy danger, but the good news is the cooling trend should help keep things at least moderately safe compared to a warming trend dump. I was thinking maybe Jolly mountain over near salmon la nut sac. I've heard it's got great views of the stuarts.

Sounds like the freeride would be the better choice, but they sound like crap to me too...they release when you flex the ski too hard!?!? WTF...am I just supposed to ski them easy? I'd like to hear from folks that have them...I am looking for a bomber AT binding that I can use alpine skiing and touring in difficult terrain.

I think Edwards+Clark could be a strong ticket. Edwards is very well spoken and charismatic. He has the mental edge to run circles around the dipshit currently in office and the persona to win people over as well. I honestly think his friendly nature and good looks are a benifit that could possibly make him stronger than kerry or the others.

Yeah, me too. I planned to traverse over to that from Snowking but the weather totally crapped out on me and it was getting kind of late in the day.

Here is another somewhat obscure one, also from Ruth summit. My guess is this is something labeld on the topos as "Pioneer Ridge" it featuers a glacier, that, on the topo, looks very similar in shape to this. Yeah, I did it as a 1-day earlier this year...very late September. I was htinking the steep early part of the trail would be, by far, the most difficult. It is sort of a long rolling ramble after that. As you said, if you can get up through that first couple of miles in the steep stuff I think it would be a very cool place to be in the winter.

Yeah, Cavey, you are right. I just looked at the topo and that ridge and the glaciers match blum exactly. This was taken in...lemme think...early november. Right before our first big snows came.
