There is a *very* simple solution to this. stick to the fucking blues and the groomers. Nobody gives a shit if you side slip down those. slip slipping takes zero talent and it certainly doesn't improve your ability to carve or actually ride. When you get profficient on groomers at actually turning the damn board, then moving to something steeper, and so on. This is how skiers have to learn because you can't as easily "cheat" on skis and side slip some very steep and deep run, and thus beginning skiers are naturally contained to easier terrain.

[TR] Colchuck Peak- North Buttress Couloir 2/8/2004

sweet! beautiful pics! I wish I had been able to go rather than sit at home all weekend hacking a nasty cough and blowing my nose once every 15 seconds. -
Alex, since the highway is a loop does that effectively mean you can get to any point on the highway now by driving around one side or the other?

HAHAHA! Best...post...ever (in simpsons comic guy's voice)

Not quite true either, since the screw doesn't 'absorb energy'. The work done on the screw is zero. Energy is aborbed only in the climber's body, the knot cinching up, the rope as it stretches, etc. Now if the screw pulls partially, then some work is done on it. Screamer activates at 500lbs? Which is roughly 2kN. Which is far less than the max impact force of a rope. So while the rope stretches, the screamer activates, so there will not be a shock load, nor does the screamer absorb whatever energy the ropes didn't. Now let's look at this more closely. Climber, mass of 75kg, falls 10m. KE=PE=mgh=7357.5 J Screamer activates at 2kN, Work W=f(delta h). Say the screamer, when activated, extends, 1/3m. Then W=666.666J. Which is only 9% of the energy of the falling climber. Might make a difference. Ahh, semantics. I see you paid attention in physics class,eh? I'll be asking to copy your homework when I get around to that subject.

10 JEREMY JONES Big Mountain Snowboarder • 28 • Truckee, California .... "A lot of people think I've got a death wish," Jones says. "But I can read where that avalanche is going to go and I flirt with it." .... Hmm, we'll see how long somebody who claims "he can read the avalanche" will last...

I bought some 7mm cord for emergency raps, and I would pretty much just use that in an emergency. ANything smaller is asking for trouble.

Hahaha...Lance, you're a moron. Nobody was complaing about decent boarders. It's the shitheads that insist that 2 days on the board are enough to scrape sideways down a steep run. They ruin it for everybody, boarders and skiers alike. My boarder friends that I ride with hate them just as much. You can't get up earlier, cause they hit the lifts at the opening bell to get first tracks down the run they are about to ruin. This is why I get 90% of my turns by hiking now. Also, I wouldn't talk shit about all skiers, esp. those at Alpental. There is a fair number of skiers there that would run circles around your ass.

I just mounted a binding to a ski and managed to get it about 2mm from center laterally. Does anybody know how much (if at all) this will effect the way it will ski? Do I need to take it off and find some sort of fix-it plan? This is on a ski with a 84mm waist, so I'm wondering if it's fatness will make the blunder less severe. -josh

Anybody seen hubba hubba or anything else easy in the last few days? I have a buddy who wants to try ice climbing for the first time and that seemed like a good bet.
-
Most boarders suck, which is why everybody hates them. I have several very good boarder friends who I go up with often, and they are fun to watch. It's the shitheads that go sideways and remove all the snow from the hill that ruin it for everybody.

Sick as crap and feeling sorry I can't go play outside tomorrow. Maybe i'll actually use that as inspiration to do homework...ugh...
-
Are you racing or something? It sure would be nice to be able to put skins on (or off for that matter) without removing my skis but I am not sure I could get good enough to justify it in everyday use.

As Rod said, the price is right but you can get a 16oz 40 degree bag such as the WM highlite or whatever the 16oz one is called. I love mine.

ANd you know no meth labs exist in particularly places how? I highly doubt you know everything that is going on in north bend or it's environs. Anyway, more to the point, I wouldn't go crashing through anybody's yard out there, meth dealer or not.

Here are some pics from our trip. I wish I had some better skiing pics but the lighting turned pretty crappy as we approached the top. Holy crap! I've used my dynafits a lot over the past two years and I have never seen anything like that happen! I actually ski with my skis in touring mode because I know I will release anyway. My bindings seem to release easily enough that they would open up long before something like that could happen. They didn't start making the base plates with a new type of plastic, I wonder?

Silly rednecks. If they are going to teach creationism, it's only fair that they teach the views of the world according to buhdism, hinduism, scientology, and every other religion out there. They are no less valid than christian creationism. The real loser in all of this is the poor georgia school children.

Will, some great photos you posted. I love that sunset one.

Yeah, the D100 is the same body as the N80, right? Anyway, yes, the D70 and other plastic bodies are lighter, but the D100 body is a better camera, period. I really want to see the new version of the D100. I imagine they'll have to add several new things to seperate it from the D70. End of story, tho, the D70 is a sweet ass camera for that price. It's gonna sell *really* well. And, Will, yes, you make a good point, but if you have $2000 in canon glass you'll want to pay the extra money for the D10. My friend has the digital rebel. It's crap...period. It's a very low end SLR. I gotta imagine Canon is going to have to come out with something better to compete with the D70.
-
MSRP $999. This blows the digital rebel out of the water. The digital rebel is crap when you realize how much stuff they stripped out. Nikon was smart, they left all the features on and there is no sensible reason to choose the digital rebel over this. Among all of it's other benifits, it also looks quality, which the digital rebel doesn't. As for being better than the D100, I bet this is the foreshadowing to a D100 replacement. They aren't goint to leave the two cameras that close in features, it would be a bad marketing choice. They will most likely upgrade the D100 with the new features and add some new stuff. Remember, after all, that the D100 is still a much nicer body than the D70. It's also a full metal body where as the D70 is going to be a much cheaper (plastic?) body. The features don't outweight the benifits of a better body.

Weather: http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/seattle/ Road conditions also help for weather sometimes: http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/traffic/road/mnts/mntbas.htm Avy conditions are found here: http://www.nwac.noaa.gov/ Turns-all-year has a great site with links to pretty much every northwest weather, avy and outdoor conditions site, but basically the tree above are all you need, IMHO. -josh
