I'm a total bush hater. He is a terrible president and those of you who argue this are blind. Despite this, I think Saddam's capture is great and everything our boys did kicked ass. Bush didn't have a damn thing to do with it.

Fairweather, you haven't upset me one bit. I did, however, want to point out that your comparison wasn't a bit valid. If you can't see the difference between flying on an airplane (yes, even for a pleasure trip) and being a soccer mom driving around town in an expedition, that is your loss. Sure, their are many great uses for light trucks. The SUVs occasionally even have a purpose, though I would much rather have a truck with a bed. However, I think there is no problem in pointing out that the majority of people buy the thing to keep up with the jones' and, as a result, end up with a lower quality, less safe, gas guzzling vehicle.
-
The RAV4, FWIW, is a good vehicle. Modern design with independent suspension, etc. It boggles my mind that these SUV loving morons will drop $50k for a POS with leaf springs! Quality 1940s technology there for ya...
-
Hehe, I knew I'd get somebody with that. Actually, if I can think of anybody that defines an otherwise worthless persona through their cars it's freaking riceboys.
-
Well, it's all you've got if you have no personality or other defining qualities...example...big ol rednecks with big ol trucks.

Fairweather, since it's obvious math, economics, and common sense are all things you are not familiar with, I'll give you a little help to start you out. 1. find the distance between here and new zealand 2. calculate the number of gallons it would take you in a hummer to get there 3. do the same for the 747 then divide that by the 500 people it carries For extra credit why don't you also read up on the efficiency of modern turbofan jet engines, such as those employed by the 747. Also, take a look at the composition of jet fuel as compared to auto fuel and the various emissions produced by the burning of a cleaner fuel in a more efficient engine (P&W, GE or RR's turbofans) versus the burning of a dirtier fuel in a ridiculously inefficient engine (a GM V8.) If you really want to impress the class, find out how much energy is used to produce a few thousand SUVs with an average lifespan of 8 years versus the energy used to produce a single 747 with a 20 or 25 year life span. Then compare the total number of people miles (people carried x miles traveled) for the 747 over a lifetime versus a hummer. Put your money where your mouth is...
-
Fairweather, you are obviously more of an idiot than I ever thought if you believe your own spew. First, do the simple math. How many 747s exist in the world? 500? How many SUVs exist? 100 million? Yeah, go ahead and come up with some formulas ya dumb fuck. Now, tell me how comparing the *ONLY* method of transportation (aside from a month long sea voyage, wasting much more fuel) to a particular place compares in any way with driving a completely absurd vehicle, by yourself, to the mall when a fucking geo metro would accomplish the same thing. I'm sure this is only an attempt to get me riled up and you aren't actually this dumb.
-
Well, at least you don't have a self image problem.

Case in point. Ya lost me there... The brain is working on 3 cylinders today, help me out.

Speaking of the moon, does anybody have any good links to info on the tidal water energy production technology? I saw a brief blurb on it and it looked interesting...

I'm not saying you are arguing otherwise but the vast majority of the scientific community believes an overwhelming amount of evidence points to humanity having a good part to do with global warming in the past 100 years. I'm not sure how or if we'll ever have the data to model what the environment would be like without or presence, but the fact remains that nearly every expert in the field will tell you that the evidence is good enough to support doing something about it, and doing it now. Despite this, president bush and his pathetic cabinent collect enough quotes and support from the naysayers to claim legitimate reason for abandoning global economic treaties, opposing higher fuel standards, and giving patheticly half hearted support to alternative energy sources and plans to wean us off the tit of fossil fuels. But why would we care about that? After all, he is making the world a better and safer place for us! Oh...wait...

It's a snowshoe for god's sake. Use skis if you are worried about performance...

Notice fairweather quickly becomes quiet after the entirety of his posts is quickly proven wrong. Any other diatribe from Rush or Ann Coulter ya wanna cough up?

One thing can be said for sure...mt baker has the best view of any ski area on this continent that I could think of. I remember being somenear near aspen and they were bragging about the sweet view of the maroon bells. I agreed, it was very cool, but I told them they needed to go see the view of shuksan from the baker ski area if they wanted to see a real mountain.

Most non-english-as-native speakers won't be able to distinguish an aussie accent from a british, from a canadian, from an american. It's the same way that we have trouble telling apart different brit accents, french accents, etc. Just to be safe tho, I like the drunk irishman idea.

BWAHHAHA...100 grand for that?! Umm...yeah, ok.
-
And it would have been nice if in his last pledge on the issue he had earmarked money to explore ways to affordibly produce hydrogen fuel cells that did not involve burning fossil fuels and creating more pollution than the fuel cell cars would save. More than either of these things, we can make a BIGGER difference by getting rid of Bush and letting a real administration come up with this plan. It isn't him that is going to help address this problem, that is for sure.

That medicare bill is such a crap. It's basically a complete hookup for the drug companies, and nothing more.

Some places in Asian have done a very good job of curbing pop. growth, China in particular. Most of the others, obviously, have not. Africa is also a big problem in this category, but obviously not in pollution since they don't produce a whole lot. CO2 emissions by our often old and dirty power plants and manufacturing sector are still the biggest problem when talking about CO2 specifically. Whatever we do to clean up, another really big issue will be watching the developing world very closely and, like it or not, providing them with money and incentives to build up their economies much cleaner than we did in the last century. If we just replace our pollution with somebody elses, it does little.

Maybe I'm too young too or sumpin'. What or who is crumb? Apparently he rules so I should get informed.

I agree that some sort of global campaign needs to be started to curb the birth rate and give, um "incentives" to not worsen the already shit-upon natural environment. That's why Bush pulling out of Kyoto (sp?) and other such crap is such a travesty. This country, by far, is the worse polluter per capita. It's hard to swallow, but for as much good as we do for the world, we also wreck it more than anybody else. While this might seem an overwhleming problem to tackle, everybody can help take the first step by getting Bush out of office next year. That is the best gift this country can give the world.

TEll him to hang in there, he could definitely hit the slopes again this year. I tore my rotator cuff in January a few years ago, and was told I probably wouldn't be skiing or anything like that for quite a while. I was back on the slopes later in February, albeit being a bit more careful. He may just want to wear a brace of somesort when he returns.

Hey Dave, where is Arrowhead? Good to hear ya had fun out there. I gotta get my ass and hike up and ski down something soon now...

I guess that other thread got locked? I read an article about this place today. I think it's a neat idea, but having to pay that much money to be "guided" seems kind of silly. I guess it sort of sits between true backcountry and lift skiing. The funny thing is I've heard you can get cat skiing access for not that more. TLG, you said you skied there? I checked out all the pictures on their site and it looks neat but not all that impressive terrain for all their ranting. I can think of 50 hike n' skis with better terrain (and prettier scenery.) Do they plan on opening this up for non-guided cheaper skiing anytime?
