  1. That guy going helmetless for the sake of coolness is like arranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.
  2. It never fails to amaze me how folks still knock rocks off that route. It's like there's a 24/7 rock hackysack game going on up there.
  3. From the folks at ttips
  4. That is a phenomenal website. I may have to make some contributions this season. This is stuff I'm talking about:
  5. Absolutely, it is possible to ski in mtn boots like the Scarpa Inverno. If you are a confident, solid skier and put some practice time into using them, they are quite skiable and can even be fun. However, I would not go out on them if skiing was the goal. It isn't always "fun", but you get the benefits of skis. They are great for approaches to winter climbs, like the sisters, broken top, etc. I have a set of silvretta 500's mounted on some light, short (165cm) skis. This seems to work well, as the Invernos' soft plastic and zero support make turning a little more challenging. If you get in the back seat on this setup you WILL be going down. I would absolutely not recommend this as your first and only ski setup, unless you also like being beaten with a frozen haddock and having snowballs shoved down your pants. You haven't skied until you ski invernos with a heavy pack in breakable crust w/crevasses below!
  6. Too much coffee on Professor Falls:
  7. If I see the word "diss" used again I'm going to puke. And that says a lot after all the puking I did over the election results.
  8. That, or Canada, present-day. Is there some requirement for canadian skiers to have a faded one-piece suit in some heinous color? I went to Fairy Meadows a few years ago and it was like a standard-issue uniform.
  9. Depends on the climb, but change option four to: "Skin up with mountain boots, have fun climbing in them, and RIP STRAIGHT ELEVENS ALL THE WAY DOWN LOL ...and I will check it.
  10. congrats HB, you didn't kill a topic for once.
  11. Of course, I was not suggesting there is no value in these discussions. However I could see, for example, someone posting the blanket statement "there is no avalanche danger on mt st helens" w/o really thinking about it. I didn't mean to appear overly negative - you can learn a lot on cc.com. I know I have.
  12. Going ice climbing at a place/time where there is guaranteed to be a ton of people? Sweet!
  13. smells like a bad case of klenkism
  14. blakej asked: And now for a suspect response The quality of shear in your hasty pit analysis will help guide you to your decisions on whether a given interface will slide. It is only one data point among many, and pit work really should only confirm what you already suspect about a snowpack. However, quality of shear on compression or shovel tests will go a ways towards determining the stability of an interface you have questions about.
  15. Perhaps I could have worded that better, I apologise... I would take a skeptical approach to comments on cc.com, particularly those involving your life safety. You can't be sure of who you are talking with, what their background is, and even what the intention of their post was. Likewise, the poster can't possibly predict the variables that will be presented to you on a given day when you have to make those life-dependent decisions, even if the poster is an acknowledged expert in the field. It's been said a million times, but nothing can replace hands-on training under the supervision of experienced teachers. I would consider any advice here supplementary at best, highly suspect at worst. But you probably already know that. As Twain wrote: Be careful about reading health books. You may die of a misprint.
  16. wow, this thread got edited heavily! I still think my (deleted) advice stands. Apparently someone does not think so.
  17. HB, whatever will you name this climb
  18. forecast was clear with a chance of choppers
  19. Kudos to JosephH for turning this into a constructive thread rather than the usual PRG bitch session.
  20. It's in Alan Kearney's book.
  21. No surprise drugs are required for you to get some action.
  22. Thankfully, I don't know what you're talking about.
  23. Invasion of Iran w/following reason supplied to the UN: Why not?
