    is that scott harpell?
  5. Not sure what those stores are, but your cynicism was sufficiently detectable there.
  6. Just stating observations. Didn't say it was a good idea, or that it represented EVERYONE's view here. Believe me, the anger is there in Portland. I didn't say anything abou the non-metro areas. And every non-metro area in Oregon you claim in the other thread? Not sure what you consider metro, but there's plenty of polarization to be found in rural counties.

I agree, this is what hurts the most. I was holding out hope that most folks would be thinking "wow, this guy's way over the line, not at all the person I voted for in 2000". It's shocking to believe that the majority of people actually approve of what's going on. It's almost as if some people I know are shackled into voting for him, no matter what he does, as it would represent a moral inconsistency to change their minds. I could certainly see myself struggling with that self analysis, as it might suggest a weakness in my convictions.

I think it's inaccurate to say Bush wanted to go to war. I doubt Bush knew whether he wanted to go to war or not. Check out Rumsfeld's War on Frontline. http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/shows/pentagon/ The complete disregard of advice from 4-star generals is particularly disturbing.
  9. At the current rate of polarization in this country, the secession of the northwest coast is not out of the realm of possibility. Just look at the security required for Bush to visit Portland. I bet it rivals middle east visits. The anger is palpable just walking down the street in this city.

Based on what appears to be the results of a fair election, the majority of the country would not agree. Disrespecting the results of a peaceful democratic election because the outcome is unfavorable is not appropriate. Other countries should be so lucky to have the process we enjoy. If change is desired, voter opinion needs to be changed, and that's not going to happen by ignoring the election results.

  13. he's going to re-engineer clock radios to have a 15 minute snooze button rather than a 10 minute one. The loss in productivity is mind-boggling.

    The Dead Vote

intimidation, polls. A choice adjective before Republican party might give this phrase a bit more kick. JUST KIDDING!

    The Dead Vote

ad hominem would replace this entire paragraph. It's harpell's favorite mis(used/spelled) phrase!
  17. 1) So the other bolts on the route are not anchors? Anyway, it wasn't clear to me. 2) On a toprope sport anchor the whole discussion of same side or opposing biners on lead is moot. Since leading above draws is what the topic was about, I assumed this was in reference to leading above draws. 3) Seriously, you don't expect me to read that much text thoroughly...
  18. Well at the top of a sport climb I'll usually throw on a couple lockers and slings (though I think opposed draws are just fine at the top, they're always weighted), but the above post reads like someone taught the poster above to put locking biners on draws and use those on the pitch, and even use multiple draws on a bolt hanger, opposed. If true, this is insanity, in my humble opinion.
  19. At the risk of being the receiving end of a phenomenal troll, are you serious? Consider the millions of climbs done every day out there on quickdraws...
  20. "but if you're having fun, well, you're a damn good climber."
  21. The timberline cam is about the most depressing thing I've seen in awhile.
  22. You stfu. Did you not see my skirt of quicklinks? All your base, bitch. PS: Be sure to carry a depleted uranium umbrella on all sport climbs. Never know when that meteorite might have your name!
  23. This is why everyone should climb with chains of locking steel links instead of draws.

    It's a Lock!

You know who kids would vote for if they could vote? I'm surprised the kids' soundbites did not include "me talk like Bush, me like" as a reason for the endorsement (which I believe a poster here has indicated as a positive thing )
