  6. Here's a fun game if you only have weather for a boring slog. Get ahold of two heart monitors and race up a route like Hood's south side. First one to the top wins. The catch is you have to keep your heart rate below a certain maximum the whole way.

  10. a good wax and tuning job definitely improves the handling of a ski. I've heard that you should not detune newer skis with a high degree of sidecut. detuning was for older, narrower skis (but that's just what I've heard). I hot wax about once a month (pretty cheap to do and kind of fun) and do a bit of a tuning job with an edge filer and do the iron/ptex cord bit when I see some good gouges in the base. I don't bother getting an in-shop base repair unless it's to the core or something. ptex and iron are cheap (or you can go even cheaper and get the candle, but those repairs are not quite as durable. Anyone tried waxing and scraping Atomic TMEX/Rex's? what a pain w/ that concave tail.

  12. nothing worse than skiing off a 10 ft drift w/o realizing it, or skiing straight into a 10 ft drift, both of which I accomplished on one ski descent. I sometimes like to carry a few small pebbles w/ me to roll down the slope if the snow conditions allow.

    as long as you don't swing your arms like those outtashape housewives in the suburbs around my office do.
  16. hmm probably more fiber, but usually happens to kids or urbanites who don't want to crap in the woods and hold it literally for like a week, at which point their breath can literally start to smell like shit.

    Self Rescue

    #2 works pretty well if you have to tend to the patient a bit and you can shield them from irregularities on the face. It puts the patient in the position he/she would be in during a typical pickoff done by a rescue unit and works well. You can even cradle the patient a bit in your lap to stabilize their spine, etc.

  23. in the backcountry beware the impaction lest you enjoy "the hook and pull"
  24. or the classic "you're on belay but don't fall" most often heard on volcanic chosspiles
