  4. Here's an image of the slow fall that seems to cause a lot of ski-related injuries in the knee. Your knee will release before your binding might. Also, take a look at the information at http://www.ski-injury.com/ rest, ice, and some ibuprofen would be a good start.
  5. I did something similar but I landed wrong on a jump and did the classic outside edge catch and twisted my knee. It doesn't take much force at all. In fact, I think the classic knee tearing ski injury is the slow-motion fall backwards where your foot washes out underneath you and applies torque to your knee. All pain went away after I rested my knee for awhile, but I was really scared!
  6. english. do you speak it.
  7. Do you also ask your climbing partners to produce a photocopy of their MS in material science before you let them belay you with their gear?
  8. hey don't pretend I don't read these reports. I see my aliases are working well, thank you witness protection program

  10. I change my last statement by saying there have been plenty of "fairy tales" proposed in science, but they are generally (hopefully) pushed to the fringe.
  11. The theory of evolution focuses on the interaction between life on this planet and the planet itself. It has nothing to do with the original creation of matter in the universe. Scientists, remarkably, are willing to say "I don't know" when there is no evidence to support something yet. Seems to make more sense than making up some fairy tale don't you think?

  18. As far as I can tell, being religious has no bearing on how much you sin, or whether you feel guilty about it or not. I don't see the relationship between evolution and the concept of heaven/hell. One is an explanation for the diversity in species on the planet. The other is a kind of world view...
  19. Scott I think anyone who would show some common sense would see what I'm talking about. Second: this is one of the bigger non-statements I've seen on this site, and that's up against some stiff competition
  20. there are professors at my college who were already in the field before plate tectonics became a solid component of geologic theory.
  21. Ah, the old "no you didn't" argument. My favorite. Particularly followed with a sprinkle of condescension.
  22. ...and as far as the science thing goes, evolution is certainly a theory. It's the best guess a bunch of pretty bright people and their kids have made based on a bunch of observations made of the environment around them. If further observations show that maybe evolution isn't the best explanation for things, then it will fade away as a solid theory. The take-away point here is that it is an adaptable explanation for life, rather than one mired in rigid conformism from a dusty book
  23. Seems to me that's exactly what I'm saying. As far as religion goes I only do what my rice krispies tell me to do.
