    Big Wall

Any wall you frame with a stud longer than 10'. Haven't they covered this topic pretty well on rockclimbing.com?
  2. Can we drop the subject of whether Joe was right or not in commenting to another climber? If ya'll think he could have been more circumspect in commenting to someone else on Mt Hood, certainly all you keyboard jockeys could take your own advice and polighten up a little? Off White Moderator
  3. Excellent! Great rappelling footage too.
  4. Looks like a great trip. I was jonesing for a Wayne-stylee video TR the other day, I miss those things.
  5. I seem to recall that this thread from seven years ago wasn't actually Fred writing, but some other mouthpiece with an agenda.
  6. Is the NW Arayete in that photo?
  7. There is a cost associated with buying Cheap. REI outsourced the manufacture of a product that carries their name, built to their specs, and they are responsible. Yes, the pressure to provide things at a discount or meet a buyer's offered price leads to corners being cut in the factory, and China is not the only poorly regulated country that happens in. REI wanted to sell a carbon fork for less than the competition, and Monika's injury was part of the collateral damage associated with a national obsession with price. I'm sure REI has a budget line item to cover settlement costs for product failures of cheap goods, in the same way the auto industry decides its cheaper to pay damages for defective manufacturing than to actually retool/redesign/recall the flawed product.
  8. Proud trip and great photos, I really enjoyed this TR. I really appreciate your reflection on what it takes to prep for a trip like this. My recent trip to red rocks after a winter in the climbing gym made it clear that sort of thing just doesn't really prep you for long routes - its not necessarily the climbing itself that wears you down, but all the other bits along with the constant focus and keep-it-togetherness that leave you tired out in a way that simple crimp and pull never will.

Didn't seem like anyone made fun of you for having a slideshow Dru, why do you have to make fun of Kevin for promoting his out-in-public thing? Playing music for strangers is an R rated lead for sure.
  11. just for Dru...
  12. You should do a google image search on "Sybian" At work. With safe search turned off.
  13. Snafflehound was the first thing that popped into my mind. How about "Amber"? The Obvious Gully?
  14. The website assigns them based on your number of posts, though Mods or Admins may sometimes customize titles for various reasons.
  15. Yeah, that would give me the willies, that much potential for climber induced rockfall on a wall with enough of that all on its own.
  16. Darin, your TR's are always such a delight to read, this one is no exception.
  17. I think the fact the new guy used the fixed ropes on the Hinterstoisser Traverse and Steck free soloed that bit of dodgy ground makes the two ascents a little bit apples and oranges, and could easily account for a significant bit of the 20 minutes saved. Damned impressive all the same.
  18. Nope, not yet I'm afraid. Most everything is wet at the top and the stone is noticeably damp to the touch. We're still getting at least one good shower a day out here. Perhaps by the weekend...
  19. This song's for you! [video:youtube] Maybe maybe maybe, if it stays dry. I'll go check it out tomorrow afternoon and see if this Wednesday we couldn't have a go at it.
  20. I'll echo Rudy and say I've had nothing but good work and fast turnaround from Ramuta. Its important who the technician is who does the work, a larger outfit like the Rubber Room or such can have a number of employees, and not all are equal in terms of craftsmanship. I like that when I send my shoes to Ramuta I know it's not going to wind up a training project for the new kid, he's a one man shop. Which is not saying that other shops don't do great work, or that a shop's quality doesn't improve. I used Mountain Soles for years when they were based in Trout Lake, classic mail your stuff in to an experienced shoe guy outfit. They sold the business, and I must have had a beloved pair of old Hueco's resoled there shortly after the business changed hands. Toes delaminated in under 10 days of climbing, and I never went back. From what I've heard, it sounds like Mountain Soles has their act more together now.
  21. I should put you on the payroll and give you a list of threads to post in. Nice to see you drop in CBS.
