Hey, the smiley queen is back, but you're a little rusty. Those are all stock...

It's a good question, and the answer is fuzzy. I suppose it depends on a combination of context and the mood of any given moderator at the moment. Racial epithets are pretty clearly on the "over the top" list as is posting porn, pedophilia, and such. Strangely enough, sheep and goat sex is in bounds. If I'd thought Griz was engaging in some serious defamation rather than just some pro-forma posturing, if I was feeling tense and snappish, or if it was in some forum besides spray, I might have reacted and trimmed, deleted, or berated. As it was, I thought it was merely some flaccid flagellation and didn't merit any reaction. It wasn't exactly funny, but it wasn't exactly offensive (to me, or really, to you either I suppose). Often as not assholes hoist themselves on their own petards, and at least within the Spray forum, they're given enough room to do so. Note that other forums require a greater degree of decorum. Odds are, if I took offense to such a post, I'd go ahead and edit or delete, and engage the poster in some sort of pm dialogue with a reasonably polite request for behavior modification. Anyway, the rules, such as they are, are sort of variable and arbitrary, at least to my way of thinking. This might best be expressed in considering a title such as "capricious warlord."

Oh, and bad spring break? You mean you got a spring break?

The worst thing about Karma is that the transgressed upon never get witness the bastards get what they have coming. For instance, I can count on the thumbs of one hand the number of times I've seen some road-raged reckless asswipe pulled over after their blatant life-threatening malfeasance. NOTE: I'm not making a bid for witnessing any Mtn God's revenge on Mike's poor carcass, just remarking on the general deficiences in the concept of karma.

soloing rainier in august: hardcore or stupid???
Off_White replied to faster_than_you's topic in Spray
Just to be clear, Fatter_Than_You did not start the topic, but I split this off as a spray extension from another's sincere inquiry, which is now located in the Mt Ranier NP forum. This is the place to kick up your heels and be spurious with the question, not offer real advice. -
[TR] Banks Lake: Orange Walls- Muddy Waters 4/7/2006
Off_White replied to bigbro's topic in Central/Eastern Washington
You're talking about the penninsula near the highway? With Whitelaw's old waterfront slab routes and that cool short steep orange wall? -
Yep, what Alex says. A buddy and I contemplated the same question vis-a-vis Olympia some number of years ago. Ultimately, I came to the conclusion that I would much rather belong to a gym than own and run a gym. Patience paid off, and there's a decent small gym downtown, and yes, parties and school connections are a significant piece of the income puzzle. My daughter's middle school does PE classes down there in the winter. Many of those kids now have memberships as well.

Doesn't Rockclimbing.com already exist? Why reinvent the wheel?

Funny, but most of the folks I've met from this board are great people. Maybe it's just my old fart back-in-the-day perspective, but it seems a little odd pairing the words "respectable" and "climber." Of course, it takes a lot of colors to make a rainbow, and you will be able to find other online climbing forums that starch their shirts with more vigor. It'll be easier to find what you need elsewhere than to hope to remodel this place to suit your sensibilities. Good luck out there...

Don't worry Dick, I'm just making with the hah-hah. There's a couple of good projects for next time you're in town.

Well, there's an overhanging wall thats too hard for anyone I climb with...

Given that my craglet was pretty much created via Dru's 4th level of hell, does that mean anything lighter than that offense doesn't rate as an ethical violation? I think it's gonna take at least level two, and maybe three to make a 5.8 for Squid. I think this shot is my cliff round about 1910.

Hi Nat. I forwarded your offer to my son, who's now 24 and living in PDX.

Nice, thanks for the pics Paul. Of course, inquiring minds want to know if you got a look at that shaded wall in the lower left of the first photo... -

Well, I live closer to Centralia than LUCKY does, but I'm sure he's spent much more time at the Steam Plant. As far as a rural metropolis goes, it's not half bad. As mentioned, it does have a McMenamins which includes the option of sitting on couches, drinking beer, eating, and watching movies for cheap. La Tarrasca serves some of the best Mexican food I've had north of southern Calif/AZ, owned & run by an immigrant family from Michoacan. Bocata is an awesome mediterranean eatery. The town has been down in the dumps economically for awhile, but seems to be on a slow but steady recovery. Housing is still cheap, and there is a great stock of older homes. Good fishing on the Chehalis and Skookumchuck rivers, numerous lakes and such. Hunting for deer, elk and such. Plenty of low elevation hiking and mtn biking, but the southern Cascades got nothing on the good stuff up north. Granted, I like living in this area, but living in Centralia for awhile would not fill me with dread. As far as climbing goes it's no mecca. Your closest good stome is in my front yard. You're about 2 hours from the Tieton, 3-1/2 hours from Der, 5+ hours from Squish, 4.5 hours from Tuffyland. Portland will be your closest big city, and the drive that way will beat the pants off the drive to Seattle. That means you're maybe 90 minutes tops from Beacon.

So, I just got email from Amazon.com informing me that my new Olympics climbing guide has just shipped. Yippee!

Looks good for tonight, I'll send out a round of directions via PM.

Thanks for not posting a link to the surgery videos. I still think the German Cannibal story tops this one...

That the "Best of Trask" was items he lifted whole cloth from other sources is no secret to the discerning. When he wrote his own material, that's when he tended to run aground.

Here's that standard interweb image you were looking for: BTW: older version of Joy of Cooking has a good possum recipe, includes directions for dressing the carcass.

I think it's for climbers in the process of divorce, I'll want to steer clear of it.
