yes, that's it excatly (though the word "far" could certainly be debated and evicted from the sentence) liberals of necessity have to tolerate a great deal of diversity of opinion, since that's, like, the meaning of "liberal" - christ, compare the crowd shots of who attended the repubs n' dems summer conventions last year - notice any difference? okay, take the liebernman example - dem's in his state had a choice between him, a moderate, and a more liberal guy - hardly bizarre. now compare it to bob igliss, a south carolian who is amazingly conservative on every single issue in the book, except climate change, who lost too. there is a difference.

x2 - indeed, they courted his support for the past 2 presidential elections and got it Um, yeah, NOW they have respect for him because he is shit-talking R's. But when he gave that talk before the UN - and for years afterwards.... not so much respect. um, did you get the memo where even powell admitted that was the biggest regret of his life n' a big part of why he quit the cabinent? seems pretty reasonable to be angry at a man who capitalized on liberals profound respect for his life and intellectual qualities to schill for a monumentally stupid war, utilizing evidence that i doubt even you would now stick up for.

the paulistas of south america wished to be free of the meddlesome regulations of spain, cause, ya know, regulations against slavery were fucking up their ability to get wealth too (funny, the base of the republican party lodges in states that made a similiar complaint not too long ago?) ah, a "free" market debate!

x2 - indeed, they courted his support for the past 2 presidential elections and got it thomas, on the other hand, is nuttier than squirrel-poo, but i'd never think to call him an "uncle tom" (christ, what white person ever uses that label?) details, meh. liberals hated bush, but for arguable far more accurate reasons, and while they might have joked he was the love-child of krusty the klown, they weren't seriously claiming he was kenyan, or killed a whole school-full of kids to justify a war on the 2nd amendment.

speaking of, i liked howard dean's quip on bill maher last week, batting around conspiracy theories w/ 2 repubs on the panel: "sure, we got crazies in our party, but they're like 10% of the total, where as you guys are more like 50%"

"the fucking republicans" band concept: - all dressed to the tees - all closet gay - all songs really shitty covers of 80s classics that were kinda stupid at the time, but w/o the reasonable excuse then of having been likable because yer nuts hadn't yet progressed past the peach-fuzz stage - all tickets beyond the price range of the ignorant hillbillies who can't afford them, yet inexplicably make up the kkkore of the fanbase - mascot: "the quayle-monster" - some bastard genetic mutation wrought from the cumstains extracted from the undergarments of dan n' that bible-spice chick i'm sure i'm missing something?

x2 - would love to see a true gay-pride parade of beatard wingnuts making the pilgrimage in multi-colored goretex on saturday, as da wedder looks to be stellar last year that first closure weekend we had a fine party all rigged up for the swiss ledges, a great big haul-bag of every dangerous substance known to civilized man since 1681, yet it ended up tragically windy and we spent the night in a grim, albeit thoroughly drunken, survival mood, shrieking at each other above the din of the eastern gusts, the stone-pipe all to seek

i'd agree w/ joe that kvetching about the trail aint' likely to get you far, but it is the interwebs afterall, so what else you gonna do? seems like line of sight is as relevant as total distance from the nest - young warriors and the west face would seem unlikely to disturb the birdies either, but clearly climbers have little poltical pull and a less than perfect history w/ the land managers perhaps if we can just introduce some growth hormones into the local air so the babies can get big n' strong n' fly the hell away once it finally gets bright n' sunny again? bitching bout this seems rather absurd when it's pouring out for months on end

perhaps we're looking at this all the wrong way? perhaps instead of making guns mandatory, we should make wearing flak-jackets required? or geneticially engineer sweet, sweet amerikan fetuses of the future to feature kevlar-excreting sweat-glands?

beacon's s face seems pretty close in size to the monument at smith, and that gets a total closure - so too does everything above p1 on the picnic lunch wall (and there's no serious attempt to keep folks from hiking around up top on either wall) i'd say then the bird policy/enforcment's pretty similiar between the two parks.

this gun control thing is clearly a pretext for getting rid of the 3rd amendment!!!

if, hypothetically, a person posting on this forum was an idiot, would it in fact be name-calling to identify him as such?

ah, the sweet strains of the annual february breeze.... fucking rain done ruined the full moon last weekend - typical that this weekend's clear weather coincides w/ the closure - anyone wanna team up for a stone soup ascent, or work on finangling a new way more in the center? there are other beacon rock south side's in the life of man
