People have been saying that for at least 30 years w/r/t gays and atheists in Scouting, and Scouting still exists.
My point is not that you can't change them, however, if you know the organization requires a faith in a higher being, you join anyways, than make a big deal about being an atheist and complain about how the Scouts will not allow this, then you should not be surprised to be kicked out. Moreover, if you just go with the flow, most likely you'll be able to participate because there are very few times you'll be grilled on your belief in God - at least that was my experience, YMMV
