I'm sure there are others who spent as much time as a judge but are more mainstream. If Alito gets confirmed, he could remain on the court for 25 years. That's a scary long time.

He should have quit on day 1 of the hurricane. Better replace him with an effectual leader and suffer through some transition expense than keep him around as a completely ineffectual leader.

And now the magic question: Which CC.com sprayer is secretly Mike Brown's avatar?

Mad props to Tommy Caldwell for the big send. Equally mad props to Lynn Hill for having it take 10-15 years before someone could repeat the feat. Climbers, and athletes in general, are stronger and better every year, and records rarely last long.

You're playing their game too. Nursing home case: owners flee the place, leaving the patients alone and abandoned. Complete cowardice. Hospital case: nurses and doctors tough it out with their patients. Realizing that they are low on supplies, food, water, power, etc., some of them may have made the decision to ease the suffering of patients, who under all known scientific/medical fact, weren't expected to last more than a week or two. The two stories do not belong side-by-side at all.

http://www.cnn.com/2005/US/11/01/katrina.deaths.ap/index.html Discussion of the nursing home abandonment/negligence and the purported hospital euthanasia where the doctors and nurses stayed with their patients till the end are in the same article. The implication is that both incidents have some equivalent amount of wrong, a subliminal message squeaked in by the right-to-lifers. Or am I reading way too much into it?

Every sperm is sacred! Reminds me of a geek shirt I have: "Software is like sex; it's better when it's free."

When I was in undergrad and hitting the weights regularly, I'd occasionally find myself getting trashed at a party and doing pushups with a coed lying on my back.

Sounds like they need to up their standards and send City Park.

This thread reminds me of a week or two ago when some guy emailed the climbing club asking if we give free belays at the gym. I was nice and told him I'd work him into our rotation a few times, but he should really learn how to belay. I was darn tempted to say, "If you receive oral sex, it's only fair that you give it too."

What does that mean? Unprovoked terrorist attacks possible, provoked terrorist attacks probable? Remember, there are safe places to be no matter what the terrorism level!

It was Halloween weekend Fri-Mon. I need a rest tonight.

I think if you and your partner were both developing a route, cleaning it, bolting it, and you flipped a coin / took turns to see who would get the first redpoint (and the other follows with a redpoint), then you both deserve credit.

The Dems had better fight this one!

Carl Skoog dies on the South Face of Mercedario
Gary_Yngve replied to MCash's topic in Climber's Board
This evening I saw a news clip on King5 honoring Carl's life. It featured his photos and an interview with Lowell. I thought the piece was well-done. -

Not necessarily. The person with the car can have everyone else go to his house and then depart from there. Then the person with the car starts last and finishes first. The owner of the car also does not have to be the driver, as is often the case with long pushes that rotate drivers and dudes who keep the drivers awake.

This was in addition to wear&tear. I thought I was being generous with my gas plus some, and then he tacks on the insurance crap. It might have been even more like $20, something like he had to buy a full year, but he was only in the states for less time. It was enough for me to think wtf.
-
Tom, what I had issue with was that he was charging me for a week of insurance, not just a weekend of insurance, because of his argument that he only drove on the weekends. So I ended up having to pay at least an extra $10. I understand that cars cost more than just the gas. But costs like insurance are stuff you'll have to pay anyway, whether you drive on that trip or not. What are they going to charge me next? The amortized cost of increased insurance rates given the low probability of a wreck? The cost of their street parking at home? I pay my drivers generously because I want to keep my drivers. More often than not, I've been refused when I've offered money, or I've been told that's too much.

Well, I'll probably be about 15 minutes late... just stumbled across some free food. (and have a forest fire to put out with the turnin server...)
-
I'll probably be there around 8:00.

Kangaroo and Kiwi's something like Aurora and 75th. Eric, you need to get a bike! (Or Thurs, we'll stay in the UD)
-
I guess I could. I was pretty tired when I posted last night, and Pub Club has been pretty low on my priority queue for today. How 'bout Kangaroo and Kiwi?
-
Well, if folks want to pick a place and go there, someone make it so. Otherwise, I'll probably go home to the CCCP, have few beers, and engage in some casual Scrabble.
