  1. Beers and whiskey?
  2. I did it about ten years ago. It was mossy.
  3. 15" of Gropple on a 2" breakable crust, with 18" of powder under that. If it doesn't consolidate, things are going to be real prone to avalanche up there next weekend.
  4. Are you back yet?
  5. If you are doing this in summer, water will be your biggest problem. Find a spot at top of the divide betwee Ingalls crk and Mountaieer crk. so you can get snow. The pass to the east of Sherpa is a great campsite and has snow late in the summer. I have not been to the pass on the west side of Sherpa. It will be a bit less than two hours from the summit of Stuart if you keep moving.
  6. Hey, good idea. I need to put a little money on it to make it lofty enough.

  8. Sorry, all my beta is 20 years old. Seizure Suit Scary does not emerge from the cobwebs. Post it if you find it though. I will be back there in Feb.

  12. In Blodgette Swan Slabs are low angle 3 miles in and up 400 ft left (south). Blodgett falls is vertical for about 75 ft and low angle above. 3 miles in and 600 ft up right (north). Other smaller low angle flows exist in places along the way up. Fred Burr Crk. Several low angle flows starting at about 1.5 miles and up. A couple have short vertical steps. Thompson Falls MT I forget the name of it but it is 4 pitches of vertical to very steep climbing. at the confluence of the Clark Fork and Thompson river. Glacier park Bird Woman falls. 4 pitches vertical ice.
  13. Hey where do you park up there for an overnight?
  14. Great photos. Thanks for the office party.
  15. Nice adventure climbing! Thanks for the TR.
  16. The R&D route in Icicle used to have a small tree as a top anchor. I used to solo up there and walk off. So I was up there when a group was rappelling off. There were about 5 of them and the last one was on his way down as I walked by the tree. It was hanging on by two one ince diameter roots into a crack filled with sand on a ledge. I sat down and pulled on the runner as hard as I could untill the guy got off and then I pulled the webbing.
  17. Regardless of how steep it was, it was a good break from work! Thanks for the TR and pics.
  18. What is the difference between not swimming and the rubber dummy? Or were you volunteering?
  19. Who knows the email address for Mythbusters? I bet they'd do it.
  20. Dreimer, There are many good options for classes around here. But they all cost money and you still need your own gear. There are many posts/threads on this board about what gear is needed for Rainier and what books to read (Freedom of the Hills). I can usually be persuaded to go up Rainier and have done so several times. As long as everyone understands that they are as responsible for safety as me, as far as they are capable, then I am happy to go. I am not a hot climber, just a fun seeker. By taking responsibility, I mean read Freedom of the Hills. Practice the skills. Prussick up a rope in a tree. Set up a z-pulley system in your yard. Be ready to really help in a rescue and be ready to learn a few extras on the way up. Get your own gear, harness, prussicks, ice ax, crampons, helmet, boots, etc. Much of it can be bought for very cheap in the YardSale Forum here and on Craigslist. If you are not sure about something, ask on this board. Or PM me. If I don't know the answer I will be honest about it. Hey, come to think of it, I have some gear for sale! But get some idea of what you want for yourself first. Some people on this board will encourage you to "Go for it" and just get out there. Not everyone survives this method. I am proposing a careful self reliant study coupled with some easy climbing with an experienced climber. Cheers! Bug
  21. Jordop's sig line 3 posts before. Dick died about 25 years ago. His stepson Matt died a couple years later. Matt was a good friend for a long time. We used to ride in the back seat of Dick's Buick convertable through the Big Blackfoot valley with all manner of Jazz blaring on the 8Track loud enough to hear through the roar of the engine and wind. That line of Dick's is about going forward. Or perhaps about discovering the ability to move forward and the healing it brings.
  22. Never has your Buick found this forward a gear. -Richard Hugo, "Driving Montana" Dick was an amazing man who focused on the moment and the gift that we have being alive.
