Morning Thunder, aka really funny story. Thanks for sharing, though I bet that phrase wasn't what was going through your mind at the time...

That is WAY fucked up! Did they convict the guy?

There seem to be a lot of grad-folks on this site who might find this amusing (with a disturbingly large kernel of truth). http://www.phdcomics.com/ If you are thinking of grad school, it will make you scared.

How about 50 sit ups for every cc.com post? Dru would be ripped. I guess the question is, Are you shooting for a six pack or a keg?

a) Trust: noun, (1) : a charge or duty imposed in faith or confidence or as a condition of some relationship (2) : something committed or entrusted to one to be used or cared for in the interest of another. b) Duh! c) As luke said to Darth Vader (aka Darth Sport Amazing) "I can feel the good in you... fight the Dark side!"

You can never have too many climbing partners. PM me if you want to go climbing with a soon-to-be PhD in geology. What're you doing in geophys?

... but still better than Star Wars that came out at the same time... But, since this is on the Climbers Board, imagine climbing in the matrix where you could make up your own rules. Todays V17=tomorrows V0.

True, veterans in many wars have done things and made sacrifices that our society owes them a great debt for. There is no arguing that, but we should be wary of using that as a Trump card in discussion. Perhaps we should listen to what General Norman Schwartkopf (spelling wrong, I know) said before the war when he said that Gulf II would be a bad idea (amongst others, it was in the press and is well documented). He's certainly in the know, and a military man. The story above is basically a different way of saying that if you oppose the war, you are not a patriot. That is total bullshit. Being a patriot is about doing what is right for your country, not rallying around a flag in the name of one point of view. There are times for war and there are times when one is not justified. Just because bullets are flying does not imply that support should be given unconditionally. If that were the case, self-determination and freedom would truly be out the door.

I stand corrected! Too much calculus in a day dulls your verbal skills. I second what OW said. After doing a quick google search on "church and state" I came across this tidy little graphic on a born-again site. Not particularly relevant, but kinda funny.

Anybody ever read Heinlen's "Job: a comedy of errors"? Not terribly deep, but a great read. Note: those praying founding fathers are the ones who wrote in separation fo church and state. Likely, this has something to do with the significant number of persons who ended up in the colonies to avoid religious persectuion that, rumor has it, may have had something to do with church and state being commingled. Freedom of Speech: Voltaire put it best (and I'll probably get the quote wrong), "I may disagree with what you say but will defend to the death your right to say it." Allowing people to voice their religious views is fine- even if it does make us uncomfortable at times. When it crosses the somewhat gray line into infringing on other's abilities to worship as they please, not worship as they please, or a particular religious group's moral views are imposed on society, THAT is a problem. "Born again Pagan" is just fine as is "Jesus loves you" as is any other religious slogan. Side note: Thinking that it is a war in Iraq for the 'sinners' there is something that I disagree with. Why? Ask our good Christian founding fathers who included separation of chuch and state. Meanwhile, willwork4beer.

There certianly is a lot of BS on this site. On the other hand, there are also a lot of cool folks who are great climbing partners. The amount of spray on this thread just might possibly maybe on a remote chance be amplified by posting on 4/01. Just a hunch. PM people when you get out here. dryad- I find it surprising that you're having trouble finding partners. If you want to head out b/c sometime, let me know and I give you a PM next time we're getting a run down to rainier or wherever together.

French Building Climber Alain Robert!!!
glen replied to shamelessgearwhore's topic in Climber's Board
So it goes... PARIS (Reuters) - A self-styled Spiderman defied strong winds to scale a 47-storey Paris skyscraper without safety equipment on Tuesday to protest the war in Iraq (news - web sites). Frenchman Alain Robert had onlooking office workers and police on tenterhooks as he slowly worked his way up the 180 meter-high TotalFinaElf skyscraper in the La Defense business center in the west of the city. "It's as mad as the war itself," said Fatisha Amraoui, nervously puffing on a cigarette as she watched Robert climb. "I think it'll take more than this to make an impression on Bush and Blair, but it's good all the same. It makes you think." Robert reached the top in about 45 minutes, winning cheers and applause from a small crowd gathered below. "The war that the Americans and the British are waging is illegal," Robert, holding up a "No War" banner, told reporters after being escorted by police back down the building -- using a lift. Polls show the French overwhelmingly oppose the U.S.-led war in Iraq. Robert has several arrests and minor charges to his name for climbing skyscrapers and other landmarks. His tally includes the Eiffel Tower in Paris, the Empire State Building in New York, the 54-floor Shinjuku Tower in Tokyo and the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. -
Is that rating kind of like the one for "Generator Crack" at Yos?
