  1. REI really can't be compared to Wal-Mart. Wal-Mart is intent on driving down consumer prices while maintaining profit margins. REI keeps prices at MSRP, returns the minimum expected 10% dividend, and pockets the rest to spend on ???

    Incredibles?

It was ok. They could have cut 20 minutes out of it and not lost anything. No outtakes after the credits.
  3. Yeah what Bogen said, Canadian diamonds are certified blood and cruelty free Arc'teryx sells diamonds? Cool.

Personal preference. I have both my aider and adjustable daisy on the locking biner in a two aider system. In moving, I clip a free biner to the piece (or bolt) and clip the locker/aider/daisy to the biner. Then I bounce, get on that aider, and then move the second locker/aider/daisy to the free biner. This keeps the two aiders vertically aligned and allows me to move either the left or right l/a/d to the next piece. I'll lock the biners at anchors at the end of pitches. Other people use different systems.

3/4th the way up Pitch 5. Nice view from there.
  6. Oh the joys of aid climbing ... . After standing on hooks, chained biners look pretty bomber.

Pitch 3. Aid for me. But I'll also admit to sewing things up when it's a long way down.

I'm famous! That's the north wall of the Mountaineers building in lower Queen Anne. The class is for beginning aid climbing. I'm on the wall in the center with the light brown fleece. Later we practice hauling systems and rappelling with haul bags. The wall is also used to practice using portaledges and vertical camping. Inside, there are ropes set up for jugging, passing a knot on ascent and descent, lower-outs, and Tyrolean traverses. You too can register for the next class starting in the spring. After taking this class in the spring, I climbed Liberty Crack in the summer (Hi Alpinfox!) and Lost Arrow Spire and the Prow in Yosemite. Good times. Liberty Crack Lost Arrow Spire The Prow
  9. Thanks for the info. This sounds perfect for me. I'm a Green Slope beginner looking to get some vert mileage in, preferably cheap.
  10. Next time you feel like driving out into the alpine, STAY HOME! The environment will thank you.
  11. How 'bout a Progression-Fest ? Ping Twight on this one.
  12. Thinking about heading up to Sun Peaks over Christmas. Does anyone have any beta? Discounts on lift tickets?
  13. Interesting discussion. Why can Arcteryx succeed where MEC is failing? MEC has the advantage of the retail outlets.
  14. How are crevasse rescue skills relevant on a solo climb? Self-belaying?
  15. Your gear will work just as well as it did 20 years ago.
  16. At FF the other night, they had a couple huge ice cubes that they were screwing.
  17. 'Investing' SS money in the stock market is a *bad* idea. Every study has shown that the average individual makes poor investing decisions and underperforms the overall market. In the end, taxpayers will have to cover these losses since we can't let these people starve when they screw up badly with their private accounts. Are the proponants of private accounts taking this into consideration? Just say no.
  18. I snapped the last half inch off of a Grivel Evolution pick last season on Lake Louise Falls. It was a cold day (10F) and the ice was wet. The pick was sticking pretty well for the first few swings, then I noticed that something was wrong and the tip of the pick was gone. I downclimbed, reshaped the pick with a small bastard file I carry in my pack, and restarted the climb. Always used a hand file on my tools.
  19. Did he call in the one for DPS on Mixup?
  20. Isn't U2 that pop band that does commercials on TV? I think I saw them on Monday Night Football. Are they dating Britany?
