  1. Depends on the weather. I've slept at Muir twice in the winter. The first time it was 30 F, and the next time around 0F.
  2. Austrian girls are HOT.
  3. And I got an unsolicited email from a Nigerian Prince proposing a business deal that will make me RICH!!!!!!!!
  4. Not a bad idea.
  5. My family jewels are very large. Estimate worth over a million dollars. They can be used as #11 hexes in anchors. I am experienced.
  6. You'll need someone with an Xterra to pull the float. A Subaru just won't do.
  7. What I would like to see is an insulated mitt with a thin removable wool inner liner with a leather palm. For Ice climbing, leave the mitts in the leashes (yeah, I know) and pull out to place screws, etc. I can't do anything in thick gloves. REI had a Snowboard mitt that was pretty close.
  8. No wonder you guys wear all black.
  9. Word. If you're concerned about gas mileage, might I recommend....a bike? Supplemented by a bus pass? Just an idea. My '03 Forester (5 spd) gets 28-29 mpg on the highway. I'm not sure of the city mileage, since I bike to work. Pretty much goes anywhere I want it to. I have a friend with an Xterra, but we usually take my car because it's cheaper. YMMV.
  10. Bill Robin's website is still up.
  11. Da Toof!
  12. Anodized biners stay shinier longer.
  13. You guys watch TV? They are targeting *you*.
  14. Gas mileage sucks compared to a Subaru.
  15. Another vote for "annoying". The only advantage is the red color matches my double runners.
  16. Ahhh, the old lunar lander.
  17. Alp Wings and Easy-Gs.

Basic gluesniffers are required to stick to the non-toxic wood glue. One has to take the Intermediate Gluesniffers Course before they can begin to sniff more adventurous glues.
  20. There are at least a couple confirmed mounties in those photos.
  21. There are two versions of the jacket, the earlier with the lighter fabric and the later with the heavier fabric. Overall weight changed from 10.8 oz to 12.4 oz. But you can't tell by the hang tag which is which, though.
  22. Be conservative with the temp. I had mine set to 350 and scorched the outer layer after 5 minutes. (If they start smoking, pull them out.) The liners fit fine and the damage was only cosmetic.
  23. Walked in the flagship REI yesterday and spent 10 minutes looking for the climbing gear. Turns out they moved it from near the entrance to a small cubbyhole near bikes. Inventory looks to be less than half of previous. One of the sales associates said that climbing gear was moved because it has low margins compared to the other items in the store. A friend spoke with a different store manager and learned that their store had increased profits my expanding the percentage of floor space dedicated to womens' clothing, and that would be a model for the chain. The upstairs of the flagship store is now all clothing and boots. REI now has over $100 million in cash and investments, not counting property and inventory on sales of ~$890 million. Dividends declared for this past year were $50 million. And they brag "We climb." Soon, they will have to shop for their climbing gear elsewhere.
  24. A couple of years ago, I drove my Honda Civic up to Twin Lakes. No big deal.
