That's a pretty dumb statement. There are trained professionals out there with 20-30 years or more of experience in avalanche prediction and control. They write textbooks on avalanche safety. They are responsible for maintaining avalanche safety on major ski hills and on mountain highways travelled by thousands of people per day. Not saying they are always right or infallible, but no one is - honestly though, what else are you going to call them but avalanche experts?

fatty!
So how many gear placements must a route have in your opinion before it's ok to have a mix of bolts and gear anyway? Three? How far apart? Do you measure it all out with a measuring tape? I heard you have a special one that's got the 5 inch mark labeled "8"
Climbing something with 2 gear placements in between 10 bolts is reasonable if there are two good places for gear.
Placing bolts next to good gear placements just so Rudy won't have to bring two TCUs up a climb with him, however, is both stupid and lazy.
That sounds like you are describing the climbs you did.
"Yeah, I totally onsighted Crushed To Death, but I warmed up first on Smeared with Feces and just moved over from the belay ledge. You gotta try that link up, it's an awesome way to go"
After years of scrambling I decided to learn how to rope up for the odd 4th class pitch I might encounter while peak bagging. I guess I didn't realize that fingerjams up Flying Circus would result in lifelong addiction.
