This is RURP: Mr. Lambone says: "I hope in the next life you may know a world where every one lives by your standards." Thank you! We should all be so lucky! RURP has spoken.

This is RURP: Mr. Lambone says: "They come to sport climb to learn what climbing is all about via the "safest" method." If that is what climbing is "all about", I quit!!! RURP has spoken.

This is RURP: Climbing and clipping those bolt routes is a passive form of endorsement for them no matter who puts up the routes or how old they are. I suspect that much of this activity is performed by those too lazy to learn how to climb without bolts or too ignorant to know it can be done otherwise or likewise too uninformed to know that bolts are an issue. Others do not care but maybe they should. RURP has spoken.

This is RURP: The younger lazy generation comes out in droves to clip the bolts like everybody else. RURP has spoken.
  5. This is RURP: Mr. Jobe needs to relax. A good number of years ago, we waited several days in Talkeetna for the weather to change. When it did, the brave pilots flew 24 hours a day to get people to and from the mountains. On the way back from McKinley, a couple of people in my group had to wait TEN days on the Kahiltna after the climb for the weather and backlog of flights to clear. I was lucky and left the climb early because I was not feeling good. Doug Geeting flew me out despite the pleading of the late famous Swiss guide, Ray Genet, who was begging for my plane so he could get back to Talkeetna to have dinner with some German businessmen. If you are in a big stinking hysterical post-modern impatient rush, the big mountains are not for you! Those pilots risk their lives for your entertainment. Eight hours on the Kahiltna...OH THE PAIN AND FRUSTRATION!!! RURP has spoken. [ 06-28-2002, 10:33 AM: Message edited by: RURP ]

This is RURP: I would not call Mr. Harmon a Vietnam-era veteran. He was one of the lucky ones in-between. The American draft ended in 1973. The war ended in 1974. Mr. Harmon is 44 which means he was born in either 1958 or in 1957 (if he hasn't had his birthday this year yet.) That means he was 15 or 16 in 1973, or 16 and 17 in 1974. You do the math. THE WAR WAS OVER and I don't think it's fair to gain some status by claiming to be in the military in its immediate aftermath...think of the poor guys who went with or against their will to that sorry place! (And did he finish high school?...not that it matters...just trying to make sense of his chronology.) Ya, I happen to agree with most of his comments about generations...the twenty and thirty year now act like teens and 20's respectively...they will never have the early maturity of some of the parents and youth who suffered during the Depression and World War II. Every generation since has been more spoiled...it's sad, but predictable...but on the other hand, isn't it nice that these young spoiled youth have not had to save the world from Nazi's or been drafted to fight a dubious war in Southeast Asia? Could they put out if the need came? Maybe...hard to say...the young folks in the military today seem to be doing a very excellent job. You want an Army? Join this one! EVERYBODY (with few exceptions) goes in and stays in to some degree (reserves, etc.). If I was in charge, every 18 year old would invest 2 years into making this country better by a mandatory commitment in the military, Peace Corps, Americorps, or some other worthwhile endeavor. They will be more proud and respectful of their own country, and more mature before heading off to college or elsewhere. RURP has spoken.

  9. This is RURP: I have met them both. Too bad they stopped posting. Dwayner was very entertaining and Peter Puget was a smart fellow who brought up many worthwhile points. You should hope that they will come back. RURP has spoken.

This is RURP: Harmon and Texasguy: You must be very new to this cc.com. The topic and Dwayner's (and most of the other) posts were from last year if you choose to check the dates before you make your statements. I thought it was funny then and it seems that it was revived over a year later just today by Allison who thought it needed further discussion. As for: "Who cares, this is a climbing website. Please don't post another line about...." I suppose that you could start your own web-site and forbid and condemn whatever you don't find appealing. RURP has spoken. This is RURP: Mr. Colin: I met with one of the two other people ("DonkeyKong") who was with "Agent Orange" on Stuart. He told me that they had to talk Robert into turning around because they felt the conditions were dangerous and getting worse, although apparently it was within Robert's comfort zone. As a team of three, Robert went down along with his two other partners. I am not saying that you did not make your climb as you said you did; I was just adding some insight about this individual who questions your claim. It would be nice to post your pictures here and hopefully they will dispel doubts for those who have them. RURP has spoken.

This is RURP. I am familiar with "Agent Orange". He is from Eastern Europe and in my opinion is one of the most intense and skilled climbers living in the Northwest. I would compare him to Mr. Mark Twight as an expert alpinist. He stands for very little nonsense. If he is questioning this ascent, I believe it is because he believes that there is something seriously amiss. -RURP has spoken.
  13. This is RURP. Aren't you proud of yourself now? "Out classed"? Re-read your last post, Mr. William Strickland! RURP has laughed. [ 05-15-2002, 11:20 AM: Message edited by: RURP ]
  14. This is RURP: And who needs to get away from the computer? I just looked. You brag about nearly 1,000 posts. I have just around 100 in 9 months or however. YOU GO OUT AND CLIMB... RURP has spoken.
  15. This is RURP. Mr. William Strickland: I am rarely on this cascadeclimbers.com Why? Because like you, I am out climbing much of the time. You do not know my Big Wall resume, nor do "I care to "spray" about it, nor do you know my schedule. Let us just say that it is rather substantial and continuous. The Shield? Nice, but so what...what do I do after breakfast? Speaking of mealtime...why don't you get away from your computer and go to lunch with your pal the Lambone? RURP has spoken.
  16. This is RURP: Yes, Mr. William Strickland. You are "trolling" for RURP and look...you have found him. If you provide authoritative descriptions about routes you have never climbed (in the manner of a Big Wall expert as did the Lambone) I will complain about you also. "Good riddance, RURP"? You don't like my comments? Have the adminstrators post a poll or convince them that I should be dismissed. Boot RURP? Why, because you are are leaving town? I see that you are a genuine free speech advocate! RURP has spoken. P.S. The Shield is a sissy route. I know, although I haven't done The Shield, only seen it from below.
  17. This is RURP: First, Big Wave kindly asks: "Has anyone done Town Crier @ Index? Will the aid pitches go clean (sans nailing)? What do you think the clean ratings are? What gear do I need?" THEN THE LAMBONE ANSWERS AUTHORITATIVELY: "yes, C2, standard clean aid gear for classic aid routes, offset stuff for pin scars" AND MORE... "I think that the anchors have been replaced, and many of the lead bolts above the tripple [translated: "triple"] roofs...but I'm not sure if there were any new ones added." AND YET MORE STILL... "I was just wondering if bolts were added to the original route. I'm not really interested in your opinion, but thanks anyway." WHAT A NICE GUY! BUT HERE'S THE "CLINCHER": "I HAVEN'T DONE TOWN CRIER, ONLY SEEN IT FROM BELOW...Maybe I'm wrong, I don't know. I'm no expert aid climber, mearly mediocer.." YOU SURE SEEM TO BE AN EXPERT ON A CLIMB YOU HAVEN'T DONE, MR. SELF-PROCLAIMED "MEARLY MEDIOCER"[translated: "merely mediocre"]AID CLIMBER! Best of luck to BigWave! RURP has spoken. 18. This is RURP: Mr. William Strickland: My post was not about me, it was about the attitude of Mr. Lambone who complains that people can not separate the real and nice Lambone from the negative personality he projects on the internet. I use an "avatar", as do many, to protect myself from strangers with whom I would not necessarily care to associate with in-person. RURP has spoken.
  19. This is RURP: I do not understand this Lambone guy. He complains that everyone is a fool because a) they do not like him; b) they confuse cyberspace with reality and therefore do not know the "real" Lambone. Regarding b) why should there be such a difference? Is Lambone involved in fantasy role playing so that the bad and coarse Lambone stalks the internet with his poorly researched and often mean commentary? And we should ignore his behavior and just say that he is probably really a very sound and nice individual in real life, but is only a "tool" on the internet? Yes, I think if Lambone is in a fantasy role-playing mode, he should let us all know and we should allow him to morph from one character to another. After all, despite what he writes, he really wants us to believe that he is a smart and nice person [in-person]. (And here is your chance to say: "I do not care what any of you losers think about me.") RURP has spoken.

    Restoration

This is RURP. Halfpint, he said: a) "who is to really decide which bolts go and which bolts stay-are you guys the end all do all decision makers?" b)"who gave you that power?" c)"you are a pretty narrow lot when you consider the size of the entire "climbing community." I have the easy and best answer to these questions. a) RURP will decide. b) RURP has the power. c) Climbing "community"? You must be joking. There is only such a thing in the most broad definition of community. Do you really think "voting" will decide this old issue? Does a majority vote of 5:1 sporty-climbers vs. tradsters result in a more ethical decision? That is doubtful. It is anarchy out there so you may refer to a) and b) above. RURP has spoken.
  22. This is RURP:You are always fighting about where to drink beer. This is very "lame". Shut up, drink beer or go climbing. "ya. it's my turn, no it isn't, it's my turn, no, I just came back from a trip and have a story, no, it's my turn. What about me? I'm in Tacoma! Look over here! Here comes Fred Beckey to my favorite tavern! Yoo hoo! The girls are going here usw." FORGET ABOUT IT!!! It's now RURP's turn. Give me a moment to consider the many options and decide....... I have now decided...If you were out climbing you wouldn't be having such a fight to decide where to drink the beer that will make you the maximum BIG WALL UNFIT! So FORGET about it, FORGET about your lame beer night and go work out.RURP has spoken.

    Alert to Pot-Heads!!

This is RURP: Once again, Schlangelieber, you make a horse's ass out of yourself with your pretensions of being Germanic. It is pitiful! Stop pulling at your aftskin and come up with some other manner of discourse. RURP has spoken.P.S. You sound like a Big Wall Lightweight!
  24. This is RURP. Ya, Johnny. You don't live there. You don't have to deal with these Mountaineers every weekend. And guess what? Many (most?) of them don't move on. The Mountaineers is the core of their social life and that is what they do. You can always say to go to some other more remote mountains to avoid them, but I have friends and family who also like to visit the easier and closer crags. Face it, the Mountaineers are problematic.RURP has spoken.
  25. This is RURP:The Mountaineers guy said this:"We limit the size of our courses, often to the consternation of some who do not get in. At the close of registration we usually have to turn away several dozens of applicants.Ya. Maybe only 150 this year instead of 200. I have heard "instructors" (a.k.a. last year's Basic class graduates) brag about how many new students there are. And there is a big group with each of their chapters of which there are several. "We also do our best to offer each Basic Student an experienced mentor to meet and work with them through the course. The mentor may also take them on climbs. Through such mentoring we try to give the course a personal feel.I have seen some of these "mentors". It is more like the near-sighted leading the blind. By the way...I have seen Mountaineers come out of big yellow school buses. It was in Leavenworth several years ago in Icicle Canyon and/or the Pinnicles at Peshastin. I believe they were from Seattle as we asked one of them because we could not believe it. And I have also seen a dozen Mountaineers on The Tooth at one time. It was a genuine alpine circus with lots of yelling, confusion, slow leading, slow following, blocking of the route and it took them all day and caused problems for smaller groups in the vicinity.
