This is RURP. Dogs should be doing their patriotic duty instead of hanging out at the crags being a nuisance! Here is an example of one such good dog at work: Good Dog, Fluffy! RURP has spoken.

This is RURP: Something for several people: SK say: "Jk and I have had to rethink our whole lives because the kids decided that they didn't like to go climbing any more." Smart kids!!! Take them to the water park and let them have some real fun. Allison say: "I really don't care for the anti-sport climbing attitude! We're all out there doing variations on the same activity..." That is not true. The day I feel kinship with sport-climbers is the day I quit climbing. Looks like just another attempt to justify a questionable lifestyle! MtnHigh say "My mutt Butch, is an attraction at the crag." Is Butch a roaster or a fryer? Maybe people are attracted to him because they are hungry. Plexus say: "Dogs at climbing crags....that's why we need more cougars in the mountains." Exactly! Can RURP come on out to the crags, yell at you, pee on your rope, sniff your rear while you are belaying, etc. Although a few hotties will say "please do, Mr. RURP", most folks would not. Keep those flea-bitten little bastards at Green Lake. Few people apart from the owners thinks your dog is cool. RURP has spoken.

This is RURP: Regarding pope's #2 above...I mean item #2, not #2 as described in item #1, I provide visual elaboration below: RURP has spoken. [ 08-03-2002, 10:03 PM: Message edited by: RURP ]

This is RURP: You are right, Mr. Bone: "A climbing team is only as strong as it's weakest member." That common statement, too, is a heaping load of crap, yet it is repeated over and over again as if it were a law of physics. For example, if that were true, the Rainier Guide Service would have been out of business years ago because few would ever reach the top. Get out there and finish your Glacier Peak climb! RURP has spoken.

This is RURP: Lhotsedreemer say: "But, i have to say the "RURP HAS SPOKEN" thing has gotta go, who do you think you are? Jesus, God... greater??" No, it does not have to go, and leave G_d and Jesus out of it; no one is worthy of such a comparison. "RURP has spoken" means just that: RURP has spoken. Mr. Lambone say: "RURP, I'm not sure why I chose to go back and forth with the likes of you... You do, because you are being a good sport! "Alex Lowe ...was one of the most positive, encouraging, and welcoming burly Montana climbers I ever met." Yes he was a good guy. I was only commenting that many of these oft-repeated cliche's are treated as laws of the universe. "The best climber is the one having the most fun...." That is simply not true. Mr. Alex Lowe was an outstanding climber, but if you do not return home alive, you lost at the game. How's that for yet another cliche? "As for my experiences in the mountains...I end up reflecting on it and trying to get over the disappointment, whatever it is...it makes an impression." Here is some RURP-style therapy: I think you now should have a return date with Glacier Peak. Go with some other people, good climbing buddies, and better gear if necessary and finish that trip as you originally intended. You will feel much better afterwards. Take more photos of the good times and let the disappointment memories find their rightful place in some obscure portion of your mind that is rarely accessed. RURP has spoken.

This is RURP: "In my opinion, what makes a great climber is not measured by success, but how they handle failure." Yet another cliche. Look how Mr. Alex Lowe is presently handling failure. Mr. Lambone: quit buying into these stupid perspectives and live your own life. I am sure that you have a lot of good things to share as you have already demonstrated. Let's have a drink to Mr. Alex Lowe Ya, he was a good climber. Now let us move on and forget the half-cooked quotable statements, and start climbing. RURP has spoken.

This is RURP: Rodchester say: "I bet his mom would call you an idiot and tell you to fuck off in advance...oh yeah and my dad's bigger than your dad." Yah, but Walter Bonatti and Dougal Haston went to my wedding. Lambone say: "I'll quote the great Alex. "The best climber is the one having the most fun." That's a very silly cliche. It is an untrue bunch of feel-good nonsense. Think about it seriously with your feet attached to the ground. "He never passed any judgement on those whom he carried off the mountain on his back...even went to visit them in the hospital." You can now visit "the great Alex" in a cemetery...so can his wife and kids. "If you think I do care about what others think of me or my climbing, would I have shared all this information with you all?" It is very obvious that you do care. Why shouldn't you? It is human nature. In this case, the results are not bad. People are thinking about all kinds of safety things as a result of your antics and you are getting more "high-fives" than condemnations. And why shouldn't you care if someone as incredibly experienced like John Roskelly has an opinion...if he speaks, I listen...process...consider...and learn or dispose. RURP has spoken.

This is RURP: SK says: I must agree with Johnny. I find tatooing a wonderful way to MARK important events and times in my life." Here is a possible picture of SK in the future after: "baby's first trip to Disneyland", "first 5.11c red-point", "rescue from a pup-tent on a Cascade volcano", "new puppy arrives home", etc. A virtual dermatological scrapbook! RURP has spoken!

This is RURP. Charlies: to use the venacular: YOU SO WRONG!!! I have seen both Dwayner and Pope in the last month. Dwayner is a burly blond guy and pope is a skinny wire guy with brown hair. They called me a "sport-rancher"[???] and tried to start a fight. Dwayner tackled pope and it looked as if he was punching him. Dwayner then said that this was a sample of me next time. Then they bought me a beer. This was in Leavenworth. RURP has spoken.

This is RURP: Lambone above seems to have blown a gasket (or is that a seal)with this Charlie name-calling above. Is that legal in Alaska? RURP has spoken.

This is RURP. RURP is named after a tiny piton. And he thinks tattoo's are the mark of an immature generation. Ditto for the eyebrow and tongue piercings. [Many agree with me but will not admit it because it "just would not be cool".] Perhaps the American congress should pass a bill to subsidize the removal of tattoo's from embarassed forty-year-olds. It will cost billions of dollars but what price is self-esteem? Anyway: I am named after a tiny little realized ultimate reality piton. RURP has spoken.

This is RURP: Lhotsedreemer says: "I can see valid points in nearly everyones posts (other than the feminist comments...)" RURP say: Heed the feminist comments; most women are blind and irrational to them. Maybe there is something valid behind them. "And i'd like to say, Lambone, i've never met ya but am very glad you and your harem are alive and well." RURP say: This is the first time I've encountered a "feminist" using the word "harem" in such a context. "I'm sorry that this sh*t happened, and that you are being put front and center." RURP say: The * in "sh*t" doesn't disguise your preference for this word. If you want to avoid using such a word, substitute it with something else. Mr. L-bone has actually more of a spine than I ever suspected; throwing this out in front of the hungry dogs of criticism so we can all learn a few lessons. "i'm frustrated at some of the mudslinging." RURP say: Welcome to cc.com, where Lambone, and even RURP, are regular slingers. "My take, as a female ... and as a climber that goes climbing with almost exclusively her boyfriend (see post entitled "LETS GO CLIMBING!") is that Lambone had personal feelings involved and made a decision, and a wise one." RURP say: Wise one? Heavily debatable...but what happened, happened. He's down and alive with his woefully inexperienced followers. "Even if he didn't pull the c-phone out and dial the digits. Would all you wankers (as you seem to enjoy calling yourselves) rather be sitting around saying "Too bad Lambone hadn't had his cel phont..." or Matt having to deal with someone elses, less experienced, death. Who's to judge him, were you in that exact situation?? It's easy to point fingers, isn't it." RURP say: The finger of the more experienced often points to a greater truth. We can judge him as he can judge us! That's how we learn. "And to think, Matt, you didn't scare your fiance away, either. I think you took a difficult situation and made the best desicion available." RURP say: I think you can look at it the other way: maybe the fiancé should be scaring Lambone!!! Good luck, Mr. Lambone!!!! "But, i do have to ask. Who pays for the rescue? Lambone, you slapped with the sightseeing bill?" RURP say: Make the girls pay...they made the phone call. The rescue guys offered Lambone a ride...he took it. He probably wasn't smiling as he flew over the glorious scenery!! RURP has spoken.

This is RURP: Mistake No. 1: Beware the stubborn feminist(s) who will not back down even in the face of reason. "Todd-tex"??? Next time maybe you should take a tent made out of 'bone-tex, and leave the female social philosphers at home! You need a few more: RURP has spoken.

This is RURP: I suppose that we can all learn by the Lambone's epic. Here are some questions to explore: Mr. Lambone says: "I let the members of my party aware of the implications of such an action, and told them that I did not support the idea of asking for assistance. At that point I stepped out of the leadership role and let the group decide how to go about it." Why did you leave the decision up to the two inexperienced people in your party??? Aren't you supposed to be the [more] experienced guy on this trip? Democracy is over-rated in such situations. Your choice of equipment also seems pretty poor considering the group and the objective. 911 means "save our lives", not "I'm gonna be late for dinner". It sounds like you indeed were rescued and needed it. Still, I would have walked out instead of riding that helicopter. These things do happen. Good to see that neither the "climbers" nor the rescue-guys got hurt. Good luck next time; you know doubt learned a lot. Have this beer... Maybe a few more are in order: RURP has spoken.

This is RURP: That Rodchester: "When did I say that I guide? Never did say that. Or post that. I've made statements regarding the business of guiding. You've always said you can do it better." "Over and over again bullshit gets called and you back off or just refuse to answer." Mr. Rodchester: You sure talk as if you think you know the business! (or maybe you have some "famous" friends who tell you how it all works! Since you are not involved in the business, i.e. you appear to be an armchair spectator when it comes to such things, arguing with you over the details is a BIG waste of time!!! But to satisfy your interest, here's just one point of how I would do it better than a major guide service operating on a major mountain in the PNW: - at least two of their big fatality accidents would likely not have occurred had I been guiding as I strongly feel that they were avoidable. That's 12 people. I'm sure they will disagree but having read the reports, I would have done things much differently. "No one outside of the "climbing world" has probably ever heard of Carlos B., A. Lowe, and others who have led arguably foolish lives like you and I." "What the hell is this supposed to mean? I must have missed your point!! It means, I'm not impressed nor are many others. The guy who picks up garbage every week is a "regular" guy, too, and provides more societal value than any climber. "Defensive? Try offensive. I'm the one that is laughing...and enjoying this one." Mr. Rodchester: Cut back on the coffee or drink some beer. You are WAY too stressed. Perhaps the responsibility of being a Zen Spray Master is much too much for you. Keep on laughing...it might help to offset your high blood pressure. RURP has spoken.

This is RURP: Tightly-strung Rodchester said: "well known climbers are just regular people that do regular things, including come to a regular wedding like mine." Do they pee, too? Everyone understands your "point", but some think that your name-dropping propensity seems groupy-ish. No one outside of the "climbing world" has probably ever heard of Carlos B., A. Lowe, and others who have led arguably foolish lives like you and I. As for guiding, I read your posts and it seems that you are relatively new to the profession. Perhaps five years or less. If you are such a zen-spray-master, then quit your defensive whining and have a nice time. Have a sandwich and something to drink: RURP has spoken. P.S. BURP: Look under the seat in mom's car. I shoved a 10-spot between the cushions a couple of years ago anticipating a situation of this sort. [ 07-30-2002, 04:05 PM: Message edited by: RURP ]

This is RURP. Question: "What makes a Zen Spray Master? Apparently I am one." Answer: You need to go to a wedding where Carlos Buehler was a guest and then brag about your brush with "celebrity". That's one way. RURP has spoken.

This is RURP: I like this "Just Lou!" topic. Are there any more pictures or stories out there? RURP has spoken....Just RURP.

This is RURP. "Just a speculative question": a) What does this have to do with climbing? b) you demonstrate a lack of respect for two old guys who in their own way (even if you might disagree with them in detail)are genuine spokesmen for world peace and brotherly love. SO WE SHOULD LAUGH? How do YOU contribute to world peace and brotherly love by ridiculing them? c) what does this cruel slam have to do with climbing whatsoever? It seems to be nothing other than an attempt to attract some sort of self-satisfying rebuttal? Hopefully this, that of RURP, is the last of the responses. RURP URGES EVERYONE NOT TO DIGNIFY THE IRREVERANT AND IRRELEVANT POST OF HARMON-GUY ABOVE BY RESPONDING FURTHER. It seems that it only encourages this fellow. Good luck, harmon-guy, but I think maybe you are posting your attempts at funny discussion on the wrong place. I do not "get it". RURP has spoken. [ 07-11-2002, 01:38 AM: Message edited by: RURP ]

This is RURP: Hey Scotteryx: Are you proud of this?: "Your kid got tired? What a freakin wussie - maybe he was bleeding from the crotch as well, must have been time to change his panties." And than he says in defense: "Goes to show what kind of losers and what morals most of you have around here." This "loser", i.e. RURP,draws the moral line at the first quote above. Should you be excused for your disturbing and crass comments regarding a child? Would you like to post such comments on your own happy hiking web-site? Think about it. Apologize and reform or leave. This is RURP: "Figure Eight" thinks that there is no "eye-candy" at the E-9 tonight because the college girlies are not around. He is wrong. a) there are often college cheerleader camps going on at the local college at this time, and they drink and carry on as the rumor says they do. b) I hear that the young ladies who go to the Pub Clubs are delightful. c) most importantly, RURP has often been considered eye-candy. Ich bin gross und stark! Ani gedol v'chazak! gibor! Not that I will be showing up for this thing at that place, but if I do, you will know me when you spontaneously remark: "that big and strong fellow is genuine Big Wall Eye-Candy!" RURP has spoken!

This is RURP: Kick off the Scott guy who wrote this about someone's five year old son on the "Bolt Clipping" talk: "Your kid got tired? What a freakin wussie - maybe he was bleeding from the crotch as well, must have been time to change his panties." Moderators: Kick him off for good in the manner of Agent Orange who previously posted the most revolting attempt at "humor" I have ever read, likewise abusive to small children. Kick him off now. Do it. DO IT NOW!!! The limits of spray have been far exceeded. RURP has spoken!!!

This is RURP: I have found the address of the Pube Club place: Engine House 9 611 N Pine St Tacoma, WA Trask: bring that rash ointment. RURP has spoken.

This is RURP: RURP hates indecisiveness. The Pube Club tonight will be in Tacoma. It will be at a place called Engine House 9 also known as E-9. Maybe there will be some directions. It will begin at 7:00 PM or so. Do you want to meet RURP? Maybe I will appear, maybe not, it does not matter. RURP hates indecisiveness. RURP has spoken.
