  1. Bad news! I love the large format photos. Maybe Alpinist needed to appeal to a broader audience by adding an "Alpinists: They're just like us!" photo section or "Bivi hair do's and dont's!" or "Who's Hot and Who's NOT!" Serisously, shame to see them go. Glad I bought up what I did. I'm glad they were able to squeak out the Yosemite edition at least.
  2. Outer Space is a death route. Just like R 'n D and YJT.
  3. And another... [img:left]http://www.cascadeclimbers.com/plab/data/500/joshuaanddad1.jpg[/img]
  4. My little guy, of whom I'm already proud and continually amazed. [img:left]http://www.cascadeclimbers.com/plab/data/500/tothedads.jpg[/img]
  5. Is The Nose ever a true on-sight? I mean, does he drive into the valley, see El Cap and wonder what the hell the name of that cliff is? Does he look at The Nose and wonder at what grade it goes?
  6. If you're rapping the SCW descent, you're probably lost. There is a rap down the face of SCW, however. At least to 2-tree ledge
  7. If anyone's getting into town early Friday, I'll be bouldering around at Castle Rock if you feel like stretching your legs on a few pitches there.
  8. If you're coming over early for rope-up, or will already be here, I have a half day off to do some cragging. I can be in Leavenworth around noon, so PM me if you feel like a few pitches of sumptin. I prefer Castle Rock, but open to whatever is dry. John
  9. Nice linkup! I was curious, where do you think the C3 was on TRL?
  10. Kyle? Maybe you can gather the troops and mount another rescue?
  11. Mt. Cashmere had a good dusting of snow Saturday, temps not expected to get much above mid 50's in Leavenworth this weekend, so expect much colder up high. But hey, I bet you'll have the S. Face to yourself!
  12. This Saturday, 9/27 let's get up on something obscure and a bit dirty for a second ascent. Decent hike in, some bushwacking, but probably some good climbing! Send PM or call me: 509-699-9810. Forecast, as usual looks great for Leavenworth Saturday. Duh! This is the eastside baby! John
  13. Chris of Olalla Canyon(?). John here from Wenatchee. We chatted on outer space, and didn't get your number. Send me a PM. Let's get out and climb here soon. Gorgeous day out there today! Sounds like you had a great time! Take care, John
  14. I have some time to burn Friday. Looking for a nice, mellow day of cragging on some of the closer multi-pitch climbs around Leavenworth. 8-Mile Buttress, Castle Rock, Duty Dome area, etc... If you have the day off this Friday and want to get out, send a PM or call: 509-699-9810. Nothing too hard, mostly fun. I'm a safe leader and solid climbing partner. John
  15. The temps look to be just about perfect for a day on Snow Creek Wall this Sunday. I'd like to eek out a couple routes, preferably Iconoclast and O/S or MJD. So, whether you've climbed SCW a few dozen times or it's your first and you want to cover your classics bases, send a PM or call: 509-699-9810. I can lead all day if you want , if you want a cruiser day. Although it would be nice if you could follow sufficiently at the grade indicated for the routes we do. Take care! John
  16. Yes, we followed the trail all the way to the lake, around the hiker's right of the marsh, then up the obvious gulley. Some bush bashing, but not much. I've approached the lower ridge via Teanaway too, and the time for both approaches was almost identical as well as difficulty. I actually like the Cascadian as a descent route, and find it much easier on my legs and knees than Aasgard, for example. Don't know why people rip on it...I just wouldn't hike up the damn thing.
  17. I believe it's ascent #4. I'm a creature of habit, but the route is more than worth it once a year.
  18. Trip: Mt. Stuart - North Ridge Date: 8/16/2008 Trip Report: What this site needs is a TR of the N. Ridge of Stuart. Kyle Flick and I set off at 2.30am from Stuart Lake T.H., approached the N. Ridge via Stuart Lake in 5.5 hrs. Reached the notch in 4 hours, the summit in appx. 9 hours. No crampons or ice axe needed. Kyle descended via Sherpa/Argonaut Col, me via the Crapcadian, banking on a ride to Cle Elum, then back to Wenatchee. MANY THANKS to Lisa D, Chris, Morgan, Joey, Molly, and Brian for the beer and food at the T.H., and breakfast in Cle Elum!!! :brew: God you guys are funny. Hope we get to climb a few pitches sometime! Nice going on your north ridge climb too. Just wanted to add a few photos to the 'ol archive! Enjoy! Morning Light Scrambling the Lower Ridge Upper Ridge Summit Fatigue and Fire
  19. Ray, Thanks for posting this TR. Well said. I could hear Kyle yammering with Andy at the belay while I was scritching my way up the offwidth. She seemed to have a lot of positive energy. Unfortunate loss indeed.
  20. Bump! The weather is supposed to be perfect! I'll be out until later this evening.
