  1. After a day of drinking, swimming and rope swinging in the absolute middle of no where Feather river canyon outside of Chico, CA we lit a bonfire and cooked cheap sandy steaks. Most of the 40 or 50 revelers had planned to spend the night and there were plenty of provisions for the next day but as is so often the case the beer ran out before the desire to drink expired. About midnight 2/3 of the people left to make it into town before the bars closed. Bleary eyed dawn, bright sun, and partched cotton mouth got us up early. Breakfast had stayed in the trucks and left the night before. All but my friend Jimmy Jazz and I decided to split for town...wimps. We figured that no mere lack of food would keep us from fun in the sun, swimming, cliff diving and hiking around old mines. We rumaged through the trash and found enough beer left in cans strewn about to asuage our thirst. The big bonus was the 3 Thompson seedless grapes that we found in the sand, yum. As the afternoon wore on we started the " I'm so hungy I could eat a 'blank'" game. Lizard was on the list. Well, damn it, wouldn't you know, this little guy ran out right in front of us a little while later. He was maybe 4 inches long including tail. I managed to catch him. Realizing that my solomn word, even my man hood was on the line I raised him to my mouth. Jimmy stared in horror thinking that I was about to bite off the front half and hand him the wiggiling hind quarters. I never really got the chance to decide to eat him or not. As soon as the poor doomed creature saw the little cave in front of him, he lept free of my hand. I'm not sure if I swallowed voluntarily, but I still remember the feel of his tail wipping past the roof of my mouth. My throut and stomach felt a bit funny for a while. No shit, true story.
  2. Bear Yak Peacock (Yum) A plate full of Grasshoppers (double yum) Infant grey whale washed ashore dead with prop wounds Any sushi made A small live lizard ( I was really really hungry) I even tried a can of Miller once. BTW I was a vegetarian for 10 years, I'm making up for lost time ... I still like hippy chicks
  3. Frankly, I prefer Ginger...I expect that David was really holding out for Mrs Howe!
  4. What's next...a fee for rolling a fire truck and rescueing a people out of a burning structure. I don't see a substantial difference. How about a fee to get the cops to respond to an emergency 911 call. It makes the affluent better able to afford public services. You don't really want to spend tax resources on the slums or the poor or on dirt bag climbers...they don't pay their share anyway.
  5. I'd climb out of my navel..and look around...what a sight!
  6. This is my new favorite line. Thanks for the TR. This route seems to be getting a lot of airplay.
  7. Rodchester, You are substantialy correct, however there are a couple of points that I can fill in. First, Marc Twight's affiliation with Grivel ( in this case) has nothing to do with being a sponsored athlete. He acctually runs and is personnally responsible for Grivel NA. Yes, even climbers like him have to have day jobs some times. I thought that was common knowledge. Secondly, even though no laws may have been broken, it is my understanding that, part of the deal climb high made included a contractual obligation to either sell the Grivel stock back or at a discount to Grivel NA (Twight) They didn't. They dumbed the stock without regard to the contract in a move designed to compromise Grivel NA and hopefully break the current flow of Grivel products into the US. Yes, it is "just business", but when a large company purposely thumbs their nose at a contract because they know some little guys can't afford to fight back, it's ugly.
  8. Yeah it's a good deal for the axe (and it's a good axe)...but it's too bad that the deeply discounted price is because of an illeagal sale, dumping stock by an old wholesaler that ended up fucking M. Twight and his partner so bad that they can barely feed their families. true story
  9. Me too. 11/21(weather permitting) anybody?
  10. Ehmmic has not heard anything good about Golite packs from me! IMHO they suck suck suck for alpinist. I don't think they make any expedition sized packs anyway.
  11. The transgressions possible boggle the mind...This started out as a really nice TR with spectacular photos. After a brief diversion toward a CC fest at Cloud Cap it has turned into something approximating an old Eddie Murphy song.
  12. Well duh! my guess is you should have kept it out of your pants and just tried a pocket instead. I trust they weren't size D batteries that were a pain?
  13. Those idle dreams are funny...Rib Eye steaks, french fries, and beer are typical for me; when I dream of a big salad I know I've been out for too many days; when it's hot tubs I know it's cold and when it's sex I know the climbing has not been fullfilling. (Last time I was out with RBW & wdeitch I cound't wait to get home for sex in a hot tub)
  14. That sounds brutal. How cold was it really? any clue?...I'm surprised your camera worked so well.
  15. I have a double Zero hanging from my rear view mirror...I actually stood on it once.
  16. That sounds like a blast to me too. I can bring several 5 gallon kegs which fit nicely into a pack. Dates any one?
  17. Ivan, you and I both know you're no poser. I just was flipping a little shite. So whydja hafta go and poke fun at the size of my gut? I'm not that big.
  18. Ditto to the above beta. But I should add that the left gully is easy to escape left over to C. Spur if conditions turn sour and the right gully might have a bit more exposure to rock fall during warm temps or high winds. Nice TR guys, and some stunning photos. I wish I had joined you ( or at least had similar conditions) It looks like it was a really aesthetic climb...probably alot more technically sustained and overall more dificult than when I was on it. Rob, your photo passing the first step is exactly where I got the most sketched. Ivan, you fucking poser..."60 degrees average" it is truly amazing how a mountain can get 15 degrees steeper in just 3 months! ( sorry, just feeling a bit irrascable this morning) again, good job guys !
  19. I'm scared of lows.
  20. Cans are the best, you can pop the top prior and then hold the tab in your teeth and guzzle all the way down...HANDS FREE!!
  21. A dead thread would hurt my head. Maybe then, you should go to bed!
  22. It is a beautiful day in the Wallowas, Fresh snow on the sun drenched peaks. I'm heading out to do a little constructive deconstruction. (bolt removal)
  23. All things being truly equal a lower impact force IS always better. But unfortunately other things are not equal. A lower impact force means more stretch for a given impact, which almost always means lower number of max falls and a longer body weight stretch: all three of which are bad so lower impact is a compromise.
