  1. I am finally going to make a pub club! I love Jazzbones, too. Who's playing? [ 12-18-2001: Message edited by: mtnrgr ]
  2. Smokey how does a pothead like you know about 19th Group? HHC 1/19th is stationed in UT, I already looked into it. I have 2 yrs left in my enlistment, and Q course is 2 yrs, so all in all it be about the same.
  3. 2 more years after Q course. The price I have to pay to get a National Paramedic licence, along with all that other high speed medical training, languages, and hopefully HALO. If all goes well I'll be in Ft Carson, CO teaching SOCCOM Mountain Warfare school in 2 years. But, don't worry I'm still going to relize my dream of being a climbing bum. Only now when I'm 25.
  4. my P.O.S. truck. It breaks every weekend. It is currently being held together with flex ties, rope, and springs. Every trip is a mini epic. So, if you ever see a beat up, old, black mazda pickup on the side of the road. Give a brotha some help.
  5. sorry ehmmic., but for all the previous "who needs girls, have climbing" attitude. I overlooked your insight.
  6. No, just busy as hell. Arms room inspections, range weeks, transfering, getting ready for SFAS.
  7. Why no help from the women? I would try to help, but I've been informed by all of my friends that "I'm completely hopless to find a girl, until I give up this climbing stuff." And don't try to tell her your life goal of being a climbing bum, living out of your truck. That one did not go over to well with the last girl I dated.
  8. I've only rented Atlas'. When I say I'm fat, I mean I was over 200 lbs when I was snowshoeing. I sank down to ankle to mid-calf when on unpacked trails. Some areas get decent amount of travel. Up to Guardsman pass there is packed road, and it is pretty flat. Up Red or White Pine canyons (in LCC) the trail is pretty sparse. I'll get to town the night of the 20th, but I don't know when most of my friends fly in from college.
  9. As a longtime UT resident,I agree with Will go to the Front (just west of I-15 on 90th S.) or IME, I don't know what the conditons in Big and Little Cottonwood are like i left during thanksgiving it was snowing like mad, so rock will be out of the question. Great White Icicle in Little Cottonwood might be in season pretty good climb. As for snowshoing, if you want a challenge try Pfeirhorn in LCC (use Red Pine Trailhead) or about the easiest is Guardsmens Pass in BCC (road leads to about 2 miles away, if you don't mind snowmobliers). I suggest BIG snowshoes becuase UT dry powder provides no floatation, at least for my fat ass. If you want more info just ask or go to my friends webpage. www.geocities.com/yosemite/meadows/7616 We climbed all the 10K ft peaks in Salt Lake County mutliple times. As for skiing try Alta or Solitude. Snowbird and all of Park City area is overpriced. Brighton will be full of snowboarders, but provides night skiing.
  10. I got a pair of never-been-used-still-in-the-box Verglas' on www.rockandice/gearswap.com for $100. I haven't got to wear them in the mtns yet, but the feel like the Arnold Schwranegger version of my Moraine AT's that I love. If you like Montrails I say get them.
  11. I'm looking to get another general mountaineering ax to compliment my 90 cm REI moutain ax II (the beast as I like to refer to it). I'm looking for something shorter and lighter. How long should a Mtneering axe be? I bought the 90 cm because I was using it on lots of gentle snow fields. I'm 6'1" and 230 lbs if that has anything to do with it. How about the BD Raven?

    Techno

I was climbing at V world today, and what the hell is up with a all the techno music? I have notice a disturbing trend throughout my stay in the PNW; the over abundance of techno music. Are your brains all water logged so the only music you can listen to is a constant beats-beats-beats-wreee-beats..... Techno or trance or house or whatever you call is just fine at dance club, but why listen to it like it is real music. It's all synthized computer crap. In my hubble opinion good old fashion rock is the only music to climb too. Metallica, Korn, AC DC, G'n'R, etc. are all great music selections.Any one else out there tired of beats. This is the birthplace of Grunge, for chrissake.
  14. Where is the Alki, for the new to town? When is the Pub club ever coming south (Tacoma, Fed Way, Southcenter)? I always want to come, but 0600 first call is a bitch. I need to meet some of you freaks before I head to North Carlina.

    Paintball Skiing

Our 5.56 mm is already painted green on the tip.But Simunation is so much better, hurts more and bickering if your dead or not. Sim rounds are paintballs on a 9mm caseing, that we can shoot out of our M4's (with a barrel change of course). If you thought paintball hurt, you never been hit with a mag of sim rounds. But who's team should I be on, I only know the Capt. What's with all the aggression between panther and halling? I don't fight for legs, swabbies, or jarheads.

    War

I'm qouting Kipling to demonstrate how soldiers, sailiors, airman, and even cops get pissed on until they have to put their life on the line, and not you snivelling "let's all get along" hippies. A year ago no gave a rat's ass about all the people who: are freezing their asses off in some far off country, missing their families on a 6 month deployment, getting shot at, and even dying for YOUR protection. I, and hundreds of other men and women, work my ass off for YOU. No one wants a strong military until someone attacks your homeland. And then its, "Where was the Army? Where was the CIA? Why can't you protect my children?" Everyone bitches about cops until someone breaks in your house, or a child is killed in a DUI. I don't want to be treated as a hero, I just want respect.

    War

Would you have said that a year ago daisy? Or would you have shut me down at a bar if I met you; with the classic "Oh, your in the Army? What's it like to kill people?"

    War

I'm probally one of the people this issue affects the most. All my comrades and I are ready to play the game. I know people in theater now, and I know there just waiting for the go ahead to kick ass. This is not going to be a TV war like the Gulf; it is going to be a secret squrril war. It is all going to be spec ops, and covert. It will be a long war without a clear victory. But it is a battle we must fight, to protect are selves. All of SOCCOM is willing to keep going until all these bastards pay. Here is a poem from Rudyard Kipling, the guy who wrote the Jungle Book. He served in the British Army in India. This poem is just as true about the US Army now, as about turn of the century Brits. A year ago people didn't want anything to do with me, because I was in the Army. Now everyone is thanking me and praying for me. The mob is fickle. Rudyard Kipling TOMMY I went into a public-'ouse to get a pint o' beer,The publican 'e up an' sez, "We serve no red-coats here."The girls be'ind the bar they laughed an' giggled fit to die,I outs into the street again an' to myself sez I: O it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Tommy, go away"; But it's "Thank you, Mister Atkins", when the band begins to play, The band begins to play, my boys, the band begins to play, O it's "Thank you, Mister Atkins", when the band begins to play. I went into a theatre as sober as could be,They gave a drunk civilian room, but 'adn't none for me;They sent me to the gallery or round the music-'alls,But when it comes to fightin', Lord! they'll shove me in the stalls! For it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Tommy, wait outside"; But it's "Special train for Atkins" when the trooper's on the tide, The troopship's on the tide, my boys, the troopship's on the tide, O it's "Special train for Atkins" when the trooper's on the tide. Yes, makin' mock o' uniforms that guard you while you sleepIs cheaper than them uniforms, an' they're starvation cheap; An' hustlin' drunken soldiers when they're goin' large a bitIs five times better business than paradin' in full kit. Then it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Tommy, 'ow's yer soul?" But it's "Thin red line of 'eroes" when the drums begin to roll, The drums begin to roll, my boys, the drums begin to roll, O it's "Thin red line of 'eroes" when the drums begin to roll. We aren't no thin red 'eroes, nor we aren't no blackguards too,But single men in barricks, most remarkable like you;An' if sometimes our conduct isn't all your fancy paints,Why, single men in barricks don't grow into plaster saints; While it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Tommy, fall be'ind", But it's "Please to walk in front, sir", when there's trouble in the wind, There's trouble in the wind, my boys, there's trouble in the wind, O it's "Please to walk in front, sir", when there's trouble in the wind. You talk o' better food for us, an' schools, an' fires, an' all:We'll wait for extry rations if you treat us rational.Don't mess about the cook-room slops, but prove it to our faceThe Widow's Uniform is not the soldier-man's disgrace. For it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Chuck him out, the brute!" But it's "Saviour of 'is country" when the guns begin to shoot; An' it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' anything you please; An' Tommy ain't a bloomin' fool -- you bet that Tommy sees! 19. sunday and monady off for sure I'm up for anything.
  20. I'm trying to get in shape for another army school. And I'm tired of being a lowlander. Is there any good places to do some trailrunning or hiking at a altitude of more than 300 ft. around Tacoma?
  21. I should be off. What type of climbing are you talking about? Isn't too wet for rock?
  22. Anyone want to car pool for Tacoma area?
  23. E-W Last night I used Seattle to L-worth for the example. I knew it would be easy, but the non-mountaineers insisted it couldn't be done.
  24. I bet a friend that given a corrador I could hike across the Cascades in a week. I just wanted some more local opinions. The rule were:1. I couldn't walk on I-902. I had be self suficient
