  1. The recommendation from the powers that be is to carry EITHER an MLU or a cell phone on a Hood ascent. Many phones are analog/dig dual mode and a cell can be used in a similar fashion as a beacon. These guys took a cell phone, and apparently it worked since bro got through to his family. So why the continued focus on the MLU, Phil?
  2. Routes: Orphan Between a Rock and a Hard Place Championship Wrestling Boot and Rally Jumar of Flesh Six Pack Crack Comfortably Numb Boulder probs: Big Bob's Big Wedge Hobbit Hole OW Kevitation Go git em.
  3. I agree wholeheartedly.
  4. Boy, nothing gets by you, eh?
  5. Yeah Phil, what kinda lightweight sprayer are you? The 'bone is an easy target in this case. You could break out a multitude of Glacier Peak jabs/barbs. But you're clearly out of your element in the spray zone. How's business Matt?
  6. There's no good climbing down here. Ya'll moss farmers just stay up there, mmkay?
  7. Come on down to Josh instead, I'll climb with ya. It's perfect right now, highs in the mid to upper 70s and none of that freezing in the canyons foolishness.
  8. Work? Pffft. I went bouldering.
  9. Chirp: Some folks don't like the idea of a polymer frame (as opposed to all metal). But, that's why they are light, and polymers don't rust, are durable, etc. It's not a new concept. Remington was making a long gun with a polymer receiver back in the late 50s and H&K made at least one model of pistol with a polymer frame in the 70s. Others don't like the idea of not having a "normal" i.e. external safety lever/switch. Glocks have three safeties, one on the trigger, one at the firing pin, and one that prevents a discharge if the weapon is dropped. You never have to do anything to "deactivate" the safety, basically just pull the trigger normally, but the three safeties counter the common situations where you'd get an unintended discharge. The trigger safety is hard to explain without a pic, but imagine a normal trigger with a thin separate piece abutting next to it that requires you to pull both of them. It feels like a normal trigger pull...take a look at one and it's easy to see what's going on. Alot of LE uses Glock. About 50-60% in the US, almost all of Australia and NZ, FBI, etc. EDIT: Here's a dia of the trigger safety
  10. Glock 26 (a subcompact 9mm, 10 shot). Very compact for the cal, at under 6.5" long, 4" high. With a full magazine, weighs in around 25oz. Ubiquitous and cheap 9mm ammo. Extremely reliable. In my experience, a fine sidearm. Some people dislike them.
  11. Good lord, man. A block of chalk is like $0.50 /catbird Sheetrock is made from gypsum, which is calcium sulfate dihydrate CaSO4·2H2O. Chalk is calcium carbonate CaCO3. The chalk you use climbing is (probably) magnesium carbonate MgCO3. /catbird off
  12. take an old thin polypro liner sock, cut half the top off, fill with chalk, knot it up.
  13. Go eat crayons beyotch. The "co-op" is anything but, the board is rigged, the merch selection is shit, and they have fundamnetally abandoned their mission to chase the dollar. I'm glad you enjoy working for them...by the way, are you a REI member? Would you like to become one? Do you repeat this phrase 800 times a day to a gaggle of latte sipping soccer moms and overweight desk jockeys?
  14. What are you talking about? It's 80 and sunny all week.
  15. If it's dumb, I am absolutely stupid after this week. By the time winter is over, my IQ will be in the low single digits. Sincerely, Your Intrepid Joshua Tree Reporter P.S. How can single pitch trad in the winter sun possibly be dumber than the "tour de vertical world" orgy of plastic you proposed to escape the wankerific weather of a Seattle winter?
  16. Ibex isn't too far. Red Rocks is close as well.
  17. Two days ago: high 83, low 56, today: High 75, low 47, tomorrow: High 78, low 50.
  18. I'll be down here until around the end of April.
  19. Enron: The smartest guys in the room (or something like that).
  20. My, how cryptic Catturd! Perhaps you should think again. I am "unaffiliated" here in AK and have voted in Dem and Rep party primaries in the last 3 years.
  21. Guess that's one good reason to bring a cheater stick.
  22. Last bump. Leaving Fairbanks this Saturday. Will hit the ropeup, and if no housing by then going to live in Josh for the winter.
  23. "Longtime Republican was source of e-mails By Alexander Bolton The source who in July gave news media Rep. Mark Foley’s (R-Fla.) suspect e-mails to a former House page says the documents came to him from a House GOP aide. That aide has been a registered Republican since becoming eligible to vote, said the source, who showed The Hill public records supporting his claim. The same source, who acted as an intermediary between the aide-turned-whistleblower and several news outlets, says the person who shared the documents is no longer employed in the House. But the whistleblower was a paid GOP staffer when the documents were first given to the media." Linky: http://www.hillnews.com/thehill/export/TheHill/News/Frontpage/100506/news2.html
  24. This thread has potential.
  25. A 50-something year old queen was "played" and "baited" by 16yr old boys? Umm, riiiiiggghhhhttt! Sure, but you neglect to mention that the "word" is coming from party propagandists Limbaugh and Drudge. Go read the IM's and then tell me he was set up...I'll wait... http://abcnews.go.com/images/WNT/02-02-03b.pdf
