Ok erudite policy wonks, riddle me this: Groups that openly support and commit terrorism, such as Hamas, Islamic Jihad, etc often have public marches, rallys, and the like. Judging from the media coverage they receive, it isn't difficult to know beforehand that these event will take place. In such an event, these terrorists and their supporters are gathered in one convenient place. Why does the "war on terror" not include sending cruise missiles, sidewinders, or clusterbombs into these gatherings? Call it one stop shopping for terrorist executions. Seems logical to me. Airspace? We have stealth for the planes and cruise missles with very long range. Israel utilizes a similar approach in using helicopter gunships to attack leaders of these groups in their homes, cars, etc. Since we obviously won't be cutting ties with Israel (unfortunately IMO), why not either adopt similar tactics or encourage them to expand their attacks to gatherings such as these? Seems like basic economics, kill 1000 shitheads with one missile with no US causualties, or spend billions of dollars giving lip service to fighting terrorism and pursuing peripheral goals.

Wonder if XC kick wax would work? You might get the best of both worlds, no gunked up skins and mad grip too.

Dru, do they use those plywood RMCP car cutout decoy thingys there? I almost pissed my pants when I rolled up on one of those somewhere near Whitehorse, doing about 120kph in a 50kph zone.

Where is the best deal on 9.7 60m dry ropes?

Why do you guys not like Maxim? Of the PMI, Bluewater, Maxim, and Sterling ropes I've had, I like the Maxims best. -
JayB Peter, it seems as if the Spanish were in a conundrum: They were clearly not behind the foreign policy of their govt and if it did not represent them, then by any measure of democracy it should be replaced. However, replacing that leadership becomes an appeasement, and keeping them becomes a surrender of the people's democratic voice. The policy that was adopted is not easily abandoned. The ideal scenario is they are replaced with a govt that will respect the people's wishes, but will see the current policy through. Either way the terrorists win and it was an extremely savy move. I suspect we'll see a similar scenario (with plenty more bombings and attacks in Iraq) played out here at home in November. BushCo is likely going to get tossed, but I hope that Kerry is not dense enough to attempt a complete and sudden abandonment of our presence in Iraq. There is no feasible exit strategy in the foreseable future. I regret that, but accept it.

The obvious question: How/when did it happen?

More like questioning competency Jason. I guided off and on for about a year and a half on my own before I started looking at getting Tribal up and running. Long story short, I landed a good job that ate most of my time and would allow me to retire fairly early...before age 40. Combine that with the fact that my best two guides, the guys with the alpine cred, became unavailable to guide. One signed a long-term deal with NOLS, the other moved to Italy. And to be honest, I'd rather work 40hr weeks and make five times the money and retire early than struggle with a keeping a business afloat. There's absolutely nothing wrong with making money from what you love. But I do have issues with misrepresentation of competency and credentials. I don't know Scott's "guides" but from what I've seen on his web page I wouldn't exactly call them able to "put up harder routes than you could on your own". Jason, you guide right? You know as well as I do that ropegun credentials aren't necessary 98% of the time. Seldom are you on terrain harder than 5.7. Nevertheless, I don't think simply being WFR certified and a 5.10 leader makes one qualified to guide. My motivation here is not to ridicule Scott. It's to make him think. To make him reconsider selling the service as some long-existing enterprise that has guided hundreds of clients. To reconsider putting low quality video on his site that shows his supposed ropegun falling off a 5.9 route. And especially to consider having his guides get AMGA certs or at the very least take the RICs. I'm an asshole if you haven't figured that out. But my motivation here is actually to help the guy out. I've criticised his website before, and in my mind it's no different than doing photo critique. It's one man's opinion, but it might be worth considering. My means of making people think just tends to be poking fun and slinging shit. Take it FWIW.

Where is the best deal on 9.7 60m dry ropes?
willstrickland replied to Bug's topic in Local Gear Shops
Hey Barrabes is opening a store in Berkeley, CA...wonder what the deal with prices there will be? I agree, it's bs that we can get the same gear cheaper by going through a foreign source. I've bought stuff from Barrabes before, but I try to support the loca shops...even when "local" means US instead of foreign. -

Rudy, you petrified mud pincher, you are delusional. What part of DRY do you not understand? And please tell me how paying $157 for a non-dry, non-bipattern rope, or $120 for a non-dry 10.5mmm is a better deal than paying $120 for a DRY 60m 9.9mm, or $127 for a DRY, 60m, bipattern, 9.9mm? I've bought my last 6 ropes from Starved Rock, including my favorite rope I've ever owned, a 10mm 70m dry Maxim, which was only $115. Don't be a communist or a Benedict Arnold, keep your money in the US. -

Scottagonia, when confronted with similar arguments says that he isn't going to be guiding himself, he has the guides lined up. I guess he will be an administrator or something?

From REI's product description: "And maybe one of the best things about these pants is, they are attractive enough to kick back at dinner after a day in the backcountry." Need I say more?

From the PDX Mercury, March 2001: Tre Arrow, Portland's notorious "freelance" activist, was arrested again last week. This time, he wasn't sitting on a ledge protesting timber cuts or wrapping his body with cellophane in objection to genetically modified foods. On March 13, Arrow was arrested for shoplifting. According to the police report, Arrow "claimed to be at Nature's to pick up donations (unsellable foods)." The report states that Arrow walked out of the store without paying for several items. At the time, Arrow explained that he was going outside to get his money. But when he was apprehended, security found $359 in cash in his backpack. Arrow told the Mercury a much different story. After first denying that he was arrested, Arrow finally admitted he was caught stealing, blaming the security for mistaking his "donation" pick-up for shoplifting. Though Nature's declined to comment, Arrow claims Nature's is "working something out," and he won't be punished. According to police record, however, Arrow has a court date April 5th at 9 am at SE Community Court. KATIA DUNN

Tres is a fucking dolt. He does the vertical camping bit, gets alot of press for his cause and then gets arrested for shoplifting a few months later(this was a couple of years ago in Oregon). Way to lend credibility to the cause captain. Now the tard gets arrested again for shoplifting. HELLO?! McFly?! If you are a fugitive, shoplifting isn't too bright.
