i betcha $700 billion that we'll find WMD in iraq too Tired old argument. Besides, in OB's brave new world we speak trillion. But since you demand answers; yes, I suspect the weapons were, in fact, hidden in Chicago.

An analysis of the recent Supreme Court ruling
Fairweather replied to tvashtarkatena's topic in Spray
Prole started the thread by claiming this ruling was the worst since Dred Scott v. Sanford. I've already mentioned Kelo, but here are a couple of truly outrageous SCOTUS rulings that reveal the moronic nature of his thesis: Plessy v. Furgeson Korematsu v. United States -
I wager you 47 tons of jet fuel that Chicago is going to host the Olympic games.

An analysis of the recent Supreme Court ruling

I'm not sure if their ruling includes re enfranchisement of felons in prison, or only felons who have served their time. I would support the later, but would vehemently oppose the former. I haven't read the ruling--I only know what I've read second hand. -

Good post. I'm gonna pass it on to my current law prof who, like you, noted that he was withholding judgment. (In the unlikely event he hasn't already seen it.) -

In the real world of work, people who never play hooky are valuable employees. I've missed about 2 days in 7 years at this job. I'm proud of the fact that I don't play hooky, and I don't get sick...knock on wood. My students know they can depend on Professor Webster to be there everyday, on time, prepared to work. When it dumps 10 inches of powder...I still come to work. If that bothers you, I'm sorry. I have a strong work ethic, and it has kept me fully employed for 38 years with a variety of employers. Yes, I've missed out on a lot of fun...but the benefits are a paid off house, car and credits cards. I also get 7 weeks off, paid. When we try to hire teachers, most of them don't work out because they do not have a strong work ethic. They skip out and let our clients (the students) down. All employers need reliable employees, not flakes. I do agree that working weekends so you can save money and retire early is not good. You have to climb when you are still relatively young and healthy. I have always envied people who take vast amounts of time off, or play the system to get their climbing and leisure paid for by uncle sam. However, I can't bring myself to do it. I think it's cheating, and not carrying your weight. An honest days work, for an honest days pay makes me feel good, and look forward to the weekend.

Reciting bogus stats is beneath you, Off. Ditto, the comment re my children. But I should have clarified: This monster of a bill is dead. And any bill wherein the president blatantly lies ("you get to keep your doctor") to the American people will suffer the same fate. I would love to get the insurance industry under control, but all your side can do is think about ways to supplant it with government. Pathetic, really.

Intimidation tactic?

I smell a j_b Huffingtonpost just around the corner!

Watching JayB choke the life outta Prole/j_b's already tenuous grasp of the world is popcorn-worthy.

A helpful and civil response. Thanks. My modest $$ are on the way.

I'd still say the overall package is reasonable. That said - there has been an increased tax burden over the past 25 years on the individual vs. the corporate entity. Combine this with the restrictions placed on state and local governments regarding Tim Eyman's wako-ness and there is little wiggle room. The idea that there is some bloated bureaucracy living off the public dole is baseless. Spend any time with federal, state, or local employees these days and you will quickly understand what they are up against. They are stuck in a difficult place - and floating bond measures, as unpalatable as it is during a recession, seems to be the only choice. Unless of course you don't mind 50 kids per classroom, parks closed, and services curtailed. It's a big hole and one that has been dug over a couple decades. Foreign adventures, unprescedented flow of capital to the upper class, and reducing of corporate taxes - that's were our money has gone. Bullshit. Washington State government's biennial budget has expanded from $24Bn to $33Bn in the last 5 years alone. What do Democrats in Olympia have to do "foreign adventures"? One party government (and its union benefactors) is the problem here. Nice try.

immolation in the catholic church was commmon in the past but usually not self-inflicted nor did the victim die w/o shrieking in agonizing pain or moving a muscle! My history is a little rusty. Now, these are only the witches who somehow managed to pass the submersion in a barrel of water test, correct?

LOL are there 500,000 people (number of people on no-fly list) associated with bombs on airplane? just because their name is similar to that of some wacko or because they are anti-war activists? You are a dangerous liberticidal phony who always gargles about 'freedom' Nation states have a right to control their borders. Part of that whole Westphalian thing you despise so much. Maybe we should just get rid of the metal detectors too?
-
Well sign me up for a contribution. This camera shit is out of control.
-
That's rich coming from a thug that cheered on Bush while he was busy forcing upon us his liberticidal policies, including snooping on communications, no fly lists, etc ... irony is generally lost on conservatives, which no doubt explains their tendency towards fundementalism as well Policies Obama has continued without exception. (Where is your outrage, Comrade Tool!) Do you really think keeping people who are associated with bombs off of airplanes is a bad idea? You're delusional. Ivan too.

1 - We're talking local politics here TTK. Try to keep up. 2 - Do you honestly believe one dime of these fines reduce taxes? 3 - 85% of the red light fines are for passing the stop bar on a free right turn. Municipalities have shortened the yellow-light timers from 4 seconds to 3.5, or, in some cases, 3 seconds. Cha Ching.

The real estate tax rates are pretty reasonable in Seattle: There's two rates: One for downtown & near north (Belltown/Queen Anne) 10.82722 per thousand. On a "low" priced building assessed at 400K = $4330.88 The rest of the city is more reasonable: 8.68790 per thousand. On the same 400K = $3475.16 Especially considering there is no income tax rate - the taxes here are not a burden. Unless you are in the lower income brackets and then are acutely aware of our regressive sales tax. Taxes and death; nothing is free. Get used to it. $11.62 in Tacoma. That makes your $400k home come it at $4,648 down here. Now we have school districts running off-cycle bond elections and, of course, threats to shut down parks. Like I said in my post--if you bothered to read the disclaimer--I don't mind the taxes so much as the ungrateful and entitlement attitude put forth by the likes of Prole, j_b, and you. How much will be enough?
-
Willful ignorance: a lefty trademark. My federal taxes are a pretty good deal. Too good, even! My local taxes are bordering on criminal. Assuming a sniveling little punk like you works at all; might I inquire as to which state agency have you and your bullshit union have affixed yourselves?
-
Once you realize that this is a scam, you dedicate your entire being toward the elimination of P. We're free...except for the taxes.
-
I can tell you've probably never experienced the joy of writing a check to your county treasurer for several thousand dollars for nothing more than the privilege of living in the home you worked so hard to own for another twelve months. It wouldn't be so bad, but for punks like you who have the audacity to then tell me it's not enough.
-
...just to keep up with state and local taxes! (And those fucking red light camera fines you do-gooders foisted upon us.)
