Still ain't cold enough in the Gorge. Day temps are mid to upper 30's in Cascade Locks today through Thursday. You'd have to sniff out something above 1000'.

Placed a bunch of these Grivel screws recently and really liked how easily they drill into the ice. One negitive about them is that the handle does not rack as well as other screws.
-
I read that bd changed their manufacturing process for the turbo. The machining of the ice screw is apparently puter controlled, more accurate, making a more precise ice screw that is easier to drill into ice.

Congratulations Eric

Just got back from the happy doctor (pharmacy) and the mean doctor (orthopedic specialist) with hurtin' teen in tow. The happy doctor did Ryan good, laid out a fatty bottle of perocet. The mean doctor, a reputable and very nice PDX ortho guy, twisted the said arm/wrist this way and that until teen was almost in tears. Looked at the x-rays and told us to come back in a week. He doesn't think that the bone fragment is the source of the pain. He thinks its ligament damage. On the bright side he's not having us rush into surgery to remove the bone fragment. I'm considering a second opinion.

Thanks for the encouraging remarks. It's not a terrible compound fracture or something like that. He broke the end of the ulna where it meets the wrist. There's a chunk of it dislodged that's scraping against other stuff in the wrist causing a lot of discomfort. He's in a cast for now and on a stead diet of vicodin. He's currently passed out on the couch. He may need surgury to remove the fragment. An ortho specialist is looking at to tomorrow.

My son broke his arm last night snowboarding at Meadows. He's home now and OK. He's mostly down because his snowboarding season is now in the tank. I feel sorry for him because he's gotten pretty good on the board and was jazzed up about getting on the hill a lot this season. Any ideas on how to pull a teenager out of the snowboard blues?

Tibetan's believe that the prayers written on flags are carried in the wind to those who need them. At Thanksgiving dinner grandma cut up cloth material into flags and handed out the flags and sharpie pens to everyone. We wrote our own good wishes on the flags. I then attached the flags to an old broom stick and mounted the stick on the deck. Good wishes to all who need help in the world. There's a lot bad shit going in this world at the same time most Americans enjoy a bountiful life.

The costs: I just set up DSL for a friend in Portland. She got a deal with QWest/MSN for $30/month for a limited period of time (I think 6 months). The cost gets jacked up to $39/month after a while. No other costs (except my beer and dinner services fee). These recent deals by DSL providers are simply marketing ploys to steal customers back from Comcast. Comcast is the new evil empire of America. They are the largest cable company in the world. Comcast recently announced that in 2004 they will raise their monthly rates 5% to Oregon customers. About download speed. Cable transmission wins hands down. 600Kbs - 1.5Mbs DSL is 256K - 512K depending on the service, but it's shared bandwidth. You and all your neighbors are sharing the same line, so effectively you may only be getting a fraction of 512K if the teenagers next door are gaming it up on the net.

4) Measure the quality of the climb in terms other than the elevation gained.

NO WAY!!! Muffin is home too, although I spent a large portion of the day watching thing 1 play soccer in the rain, so my sanity may be in question Although I was grounded today I got good and wet today as well. Took Butch for a run in Forest Park in the middle of a down pour. It was a mud fest. Loved it!

Play smart and drink a lot of water while drinking or just before going to bed. I got really tanked at the Smith rope up Saturday night. Thanks TG for the shots of whiskey. I staggered back to camp at 1am then drank a ton of water before bedding down. Was able to lead climbs the next morning.

Ok Wayne, you've pulled me out of my shell. Posting climbs on cc recently has not been something I wake up in the morning looking forward to, but it's time for all of us to share our experiences and contribute to the community we have here.
