  1. I say call in the air strikes! Maybe some napalm to clean up some of those shrubby trails. I was up there this weekend and didn't hear anything about this. If its true its too bad. But generally I've found everyone up there to be really cool. An RCMP came by the smoke bluffs parking lot last night around 9:00pm. We were having a late dinner with some folks that were staying. No questions just a friendly wave. If this had been Leavenworth I think we would all have been strip searched.
  2. At the risk of making this a deeper philosophical arguement, where do these "ideas and morals" come from? w/o falling back to religon I'd argue that these come from people. People define morals. And the views of the majority do change. 100 years ago women could not vote. That was mainstream. That was moderate. That was moral. Today even the most right wing radicals would not this on recedning the right to vote from women. So if right and left are static. Then we must conclude that you, I and Rush Linbaugh are all bleeding heart liberals. While Mula Omar and Bin Laden are right wingers.
  3. This "mild set of ideas" has more in common with the far left than it doesn't. How many agree with it hardly save it from having properties and ideas espoused by the far left. If half of Americans actually agree with this list, all it shows is how many are closer to being far left than not, not that the ideas don't have a lot in common with the far left. Or perhaps it shows how far right the media and the "leadership" of this country has gone. Your argument makes no sense. You are basically saying right and left are defined only by ideas not people. 70% of the population cannot be "far left". By definition. It is very concieted to call the majority anything but moderate.

    Extreme weather

These kinds of studies are dangerous. Let me say I do beilieve in anthropogenic climate change. But the extreme events arguement is dubious. How much more weather data do we have not then 1960. There weren't even weather sattalites then. I thikn I remember reading that the whole of scientific knowledge double every 10 years. So we would expect something like 5-10 times the number of extreme events now then 40 years ago. How many of those houses on mt. lemmon in AZ were there in 1960. Probably not many. There will be millions in insurance claims for them. 40 years ago there would not have been. There are also a lot more people and structures to insure now too.
  6. The government subsidizes nearly all energy. What do you think the military is for. What ever you believe about the gulf wars, the do represent a defacto subsidy to the oil industry. What about the "strategic petroleum reserve". What about WPPS. How about hydro power. All of these things are huge subsidies. If you want to talk about real subsidies than you can start talking about externalities. Who is paying for the clean up of coal mines in West Virginia? I agree that bio-diesel is a crock. But the subsides are no different than anything else.
  7. I also thing there is a bosch repair center in Kent or Auburn. Right along Hwy 167. To bolt is to admit defeat.

  18. MissNormandy, I feel your pain. Why don't you come over here and let me console you.
  19. So rather than work I'm planning this trip. Anyone know if you can drive from the north directly to cold springs? I think I'll leave tonight and camp at the trailhead. How is the road? Can a subaru make it? Anyone else going tommorow? I may have a for you at the top. I'll bring aluminums and a whipit. I paid enough for that thing a I should use it at least twice.
  20. Nope that's not exaclty true. CD-ROMs you buy for your computer RIAA doesn't get jack for. But if you bought one of those expensive CD copying machines (put out by Sony, JVC) you have to buy special disks for. Then you pay the RIAA tax.
  21. So who is HikerSatan ? I love the sig "I also have the same water filter as Mark Twight"!
  22. The Garmont boots Ferrata boot They are very light, have a stiffish sole, and have a narrow toebox so the edge really well. Marmot has them. They are new to me this year, but so far I'd give them 4 and 1/2 Oh and they are a lot less $$ then the trangos.
  23. I've never been up there. Sounds like fun any thoughts for a competent climber and skier. The plan. Leave at 5:00a from Seattle. Lunchounter by 5:00p. Up at dawn and ski down.

  25. Anyone know much about this pack? Its a little small and a little heavier, but it looks like a great pack. The whole think tears down (hip belt, beaver tail, lid etc) to about 2.5 lbs for summit bids. I'm thinking about it.
