  1. The enigma of the enima!! Hope you had a good time on your climb Hannah and if this was a long-standing goal of yours, congratulations. And actually its pissing snow, jacking up the avy conditions and gonna be ball-busting cold this weekend here in Colorado. Really could put a damper on my ski plans for this weekend. On the bright side I did send the yellow route on my home bouldering wall. And finally, in defense to Griz, I get a little cranky out here as well cuz the Rockies can't even hold the jock of the Cascades. I MISS GLACIERS!!!!
  2. You inspired me and humbled me at the same time. I truly am amazed and jealous. Good on ya for getting up and down there.
  3. Thanks for the help guys. Got the Tuas with Silvretta 404s. They'll do for the remainder of this season but I see myself upgrading bindings next year. Got The 404s because I wanted them to be compatable with my mountaineering boots. However... Decided against breaking my ankle and picked up a pair of Lowa Structuras. They seem a little clunkier than what I was expecting but it seems the trend with tele and randonee gear is to mimic downhill more and more. Got some skins and will test the setup on Sunday at Boreas Pass if avy conditions allow me to.
  4. I agree with fenderfour. What you describe using it for, many people have separate ropes for those specific activity. Ironically the toughest one on a rope is probably the rubbing of top-roping. Also 10mm is a common width so I think they will be cheaper. As for brand preference, everybody is going to say their own one.

  6. Actually it'll be Coloradoan pow-pow I'll be tumbling down. I'm a Cascadian ex-pat now.
  7. Making the switch from downhill to AT setup. Here's my question, I'm 5'10, 165-170 range. What's the optimal length? Gonna use it more for touring than resort skiing. They're Tua 180cm 90-65-80 base. Too long? Thanks guys!!
  8. That's what I thought. If you them into different piecs at different points, with basic geometery that means one rope will take the fall. Or do you clip both into the same piece before the perceived crux?
  9. So this might answer a question I've had for about three years: Are the impact forces why half ropes are more popular than twin ropes?
  10. My lord Chirp, you need a bag of popcorn in hand to watch your avatar!!
  11. I think I'm scarred for life after looking at that link. If a coon will do that, I'm never gonna turn my back again on a
  12. Podcaster I have listened to did nothing for me. But I think regionally this is something that is useful. IE: Since I live in Denver now listening to Front Range Bouldering, I got some beta on some problems in Castlewood Canyon that us mere mortals could actually try. True, some of it is drivel, but you can get some good tidbits from them. And besides, I wanna hear about the sacrificial Devil's Club ritual on the Mox Spire climb from Layton!!
  13. So Front Range Bouldering offers a podcast, when are we going to get our hardmen (and women) spray their beta on a podcast. Its good background chatter when surfing. Any plans on this Jon?
  14. Was shocked yesterday when I went to check out ClimbingBoulder for some Clear Creek Canyon beta for a planned day o cragging on Sunday and saw in big shiny letters "Mountain Project". After spending time on it, the beta is the same but it seems much, much cleaner and more streamlined. Two thumbs up guys.
  15. I thought it was cuz you old timers loofahed the crap out of it and left us with what we have today. Did you guys plant the moss on top of the rocks and drag the driftwood out to the beach too?
  16. Snotel has some interesting things to say. Washington begins around page 36. Elbow Lake is at 124%, while Thunder Basin is at 85% normal. The basin average for the Baker/Skagit/ Nooksack is at 89%. http://www.wrcc.dri.edu/cgi-bin/sno_narr3_pl
  17. So I take it you never made it pass the ever-higher tree slope then?
  18. Hey Ivan. From your ambiguous post are we to take it that there is a fairly deep, yet unconsolidated snowpack off of the Cascade River?
  19. I love it. I totally hear the theme song to Indiana Jones in the background reading this thing.
  20. Seeing if the Carter Lake boulders got cinged in a wildfire. So bouldering, Broncos and homecooked Mexican.
  21. * That a grade is inconsequential when years later, one swims through nostalgia to previous favorite/heinous/scary/all of the above climbs. * That drinking beer equals a belly which really throws off your balance. * That the Rocky Mountains (Colorado) will never, ever, ever compare to the Cascades (ie: many a trip with the wife here the phrase will be uttered," It's pretty but not like the Cascades." * I know arthritis is around the corner after jamming my toes countless many times into climbing shoes too small and pounding them up scree and talus in mountaineering boots.
  22. Very noticable. It's over near Ralston Buttes. They're still having some flare-ups right now. I can hear Coal Creek FD on the scanner dealing with some.
  23. The thing my wife still points out about that trip was how the trail was steeper than the mountain!!
  24. We have one of the best powder winters in the mountains in recent history here in Colorado, and the Front Range is burning. It's been about 25 days since any precip in Denver. Can I tell you the fun in doing the logistics for four photogs a reporter and two live trucks at 2:30 am in the morning. Stupid arsonist. Burnt out 2,700 acres of open space between Golden and Boulder.
  25. The transition my wife made was she cleaned my gear for years. Played around at the base of stuff plugging pieces in, equalizing anchors while we would be out cragging. Moved to doing some TR climbs while plugging in gear and then finally got up the gumption and did it. I don't know why but there is something morememorable about your first trad lead than a clip-up. She still talks about it constantly. Also the Long book on Climbing anchors is a good investment to make.
