the rossi mega bangs are nice and solid and damp, while the k2 work stinx are way to soft to be your only ski, in my opinion....

Personally i enjoy trip reports that are well done and to the point. An added picture is a nice bonus. This is the only reason i use this web-site and the reason for it's creation i believe.....Too often it is packed full of off topic crap. Thanks C for the nice picture....T.

Middle Sister Southeast Ridge Beta Needed
tobytortorelli replied to tobytortorelli's topic in Oregon Cascades
We are back now, after skiing Crystal, Mt. Washington, South Sister, Thielson, Crater Lk., and McLoughlin. Perfect corn on all, without seeing anyone at all on the routes (minus Crater Lk. and Crystal, of course).....Middle and North sister didn't look as appealing as i have seen them before,(on the east sides) so we will go back next year. The West sides looked nice from Mt. Washington though.... -
They do not clear the road to Hannegan campground. Ever....Also, the road sits in a deep valley near the T.H., at 3100', so it may have some snow near the end still....One more thing, Milano's is my last choice in the area. The North Fork Beer Shrine in Kendall kicks ass. Fresh, handmade beer and good eats. Not all that cheese. And Graham's is back open in Glacier right across the street from Milano's...Peace.T.

We're making a trip to nicer weather, and skiing some of Oregon's volcano's next week. One question is: Can the trip from pole cr. to the s.e. ridge and up be done in a morning?? Does anyone know actual mileage. Can't seem to find any information. Any useful comments welcome....Also, any info. on conditions of Jefferson, Mcgloughlin(sp?),Thielsen access at this time appreciated...Thanks, T.

Saw the chopper flying under the cloud deck while skiing on Shuksan Arm. Good to hear they are O.K.....Did see some climbers in the "Hourglass" run on the arm,(not the climbing route higher up), who started a wet slide to clear the slope for glissading, but instead of waiting for it to descend, they started glissading right into the raging slush torrent!! Needless to say, it looked as though the first person got pummeled!! And the second person followed right behind. Alasair (sp?) I hope this wasn't you!!! Good skiing up there, by the way....

Yep, 6 miles, leaving 2 to the trailhead....

John, Tim, Karl and i were the first party to set out, at 6am Sat., under advancing cloud from the east and clear blue to the west.(?) Put on the skis near 4600' and skinned to within a few hundred feet of the 8600' saddle, where we boot packed the rest to the East summit of Silver Star. Along the way we encountered sun, cloud, and falling snow. The last 1000' of the glacier was holding a thin powdery surface, while stability wasn't a concern anywhere on the route that day. Skied, in a nice break of sun, from near 8800' down to 5200', where we glided through forest on a slightly decending traverse, down the east side of Silver Star Cr. Tim and I kept our skis on to about 3800', skiing snirt and dirt. John and Karl decided other-wise. All in all, the ski now is 3400 vertical. Winter conditions would/could be otherwise.

It seems to me, from reading the article, that Cooper Spur has had a permit, from that ski area's conception, of 1400 acres. Meadows is buying this existing permit and using it. It will most likely be below timberline, and stick to the North American standards of being a totally shitty, skied out area. Sooo, I think i'm with you guys now. Has anyone acted on thier anger????? Let us know...........

Wow, this is great!!!!! I could do without the golf course, but it would provide me with access to the alpine on that side of the mtn. We need expansion of all ski areas (hills)in the U.S. and Canada. Our areas don't provide us enough and don't function as gateways into the back-cunt-ry as they do in Europe. Hope all goes through O.K.

the gates are for logging companys that are logging the land. Lincoln timber based in sedro-wooley, and Olivine Corp. located in whatcom co. have the rights to open/close the gate at the middle fork bridge. 360-733-3332 (olivine corp.) this lady and her husband say that the gate is open sometimes in the summer around july while they are doing the "crush" of slash piles....and she wishes everyone could access the area, but too many cars/garbage piles not left by them were popping up along the roads in the past....too bad...the campbell group has the other gate and i've been unsuccessful at contacting them through the phone # posted or internet....soooo, walk the middle fork road and take the right fork at the gravel pile, which is probabally under snow right now...use the "force" when snowcovered......t.

do it yourself you tool. they prob. come with a template.

what about the Pan Dome ice?... pandomonium? There were some people there before these heavy rains....looked punchy though.....but it has looked better before...T.

yes, closed every year from nov. to early july for migratory goats. the herd is a nice one of 12 members the last time i saw them..... chowder is great skiing in october and is sometimes good in july and august....those goats traverse the high country and are sometimes on coleman pinnacle just hanging out. the lake named 14 goat lake under the pinnacle is named after these... there are a couple different traverses you could make to get out there from mt. baker ski area and be on snow the whole time...T.
