  1. I suggest if you consider the fate of THEMISTOCLES you would understand a great deal more of “why the world hates us” than by any other analysis presented in this thread. PP
  2. JG - Here is a good source of economic data data source PP
  3. He is Spanish - you know a member of the coalition of the willing! PP
  4. Does this belong in training? Equipment? Climbers Board or the Groovy NEW ROCK CLIMBING FORUM? Anyplace it’s amazing. PP
  5. good man go clean that route!
  6. At Index the rock has a strange feature called a "Crack." Some climbers have equipment that they place in these "Cracks" to use in place of bolts. It's crazy I know. But the idea of a Churning replica sounds pretty groovy to me. Maybe O2 instead! PP
  7. Rockies tip - On Canada Day the hotel at Lake Louise has a huge cake - free grub! At least last time I was there. Mountaineering:Just say no! PP
  8. I'll admit I think very littl eof his analysis but if you like that kinda stuff from an american perspective I would suggest reading Veblen (as always for any reason) but also a book Corporate Liberalism by Jeffrey Lustig. The book is an ok read but has a wealth of info and references that will probably provide you with hours of good reading. link PP
  9. PP, I'm not intending to spew, merely to promote debate. As to the factuality of the numbers I presented, you and I both know that there's a multitude of ways to present the same numbers yet reach different conclusions. Michael Moore gets his data from a number of sources which he cites but I'm not about to repeat since it's fairly exhaustive. JG - Please don't repeat them! But I again say at least some of yoru fact are complete BS. I also get the sense (from your response) that utlimately you don't care if they are true or not. That is why I call your posting spew. Merely listing a series of bogus and perhaps trueful ratios and statistic is not an arguement it is at best sloganeering. And as such appeals not to rational discourse but to preconceived notions. PP
  10. JG - Just want to point out that amongst your anti-thinking spew there are some serious factual errors. Now I would suggest that a person quoting from Stupid White Men might not care but I thought I'd point out some facts: US Link Canadian Link Spew on! PP
  11. Pulling over that final bulge on that center route is harder than it looks from the ground! I did it on a rainy day and thought about bailing – glad I didn’t. Good route though. Too bad the cliff wasn’t a bit higher. Wanna go back and try that route just to the right. PP
  12. Ah I was just going to bring this baby back to the top. Haven't done them all or even very many but I would say that there is significant volumes of easier new route potential at Index (short) and that's what I wish was there for quick after work climbing. For example Erik climbed a new route a couple of winters ago that I want to do. So a three day weekend is a coming lots of time for new route TR on Monday. Then I might be able to escape for an afternoon of climbing. PP
  13. PEt Wall NO WAY! Cerberus! mmmmmmmm! PP
  14. Translation of speech she was making: My dear friends, My name is Sabine Herold. How many of us are here today! More than I could have hoped a month ago, when strikes were everywhere and the media was predicting a total national shutdown. Our message has moved through France like a jetliner's vapor trail! A Million French Citizens realized in less than two weeks that things had changed, that we will never again be impotent hostages. We are united to recall the values of our Republic to those who ridicule these values: Freedom, Equality, Fraternity. Three words which summarize the Rights of Man against modern tyranny and privilege. What remains of our Republic's grand mission? Who can believe France is now a country of Freedom? How can "freedom" allow your professor to deny you a final grade? Can we call it "freedom" when our trains and airplanes are regularly and endlessly paralysed? Who can believe France is a country of Equality? When the State maintains indecent pension privileges just for public employees and those of large public companies, where is the Equality? Why should the public sector enjoy privileged retirement benefits denied to comparable workers in the private sector? Dear friends, I invite you from now on to enter in active resistance against undeserved privilege, to defend principles we cherish together. For the return of Freedom, for Equality, for Fraternity -- we will continue to fight! PP
  15. Sure they would! Look at Squamish every nook and cranny has been excavated. Darrington is being covered. But neither can be reached after work from Seattle! PP
  16. After my afternoon trip to 38 last week I decided that while it’s climbing it doesn’t really get me excited about climbing. Index on the other hand is longer drive to do the same old routes. My question is if people are putting routes up at 38 why aren’t they doing the same at Index? People are always whining about how they can’t find a partner or are unemployed – why aren’t you all putting up new routes? PP
  17. PP
  18. Wa son eof those upper pins at the base of the flare? I fso last time I climbed that the pin was cracked. Also Index sucks let's all follow TLG to the Valley! PP
  19. TLG if you find leading Lizard and Ultrabrutal hard Erik's suggestions may be difficult leads
  20. Not sure what you are looking for but… Nutcracker with 5.9 variation start. CS Concerto 5.8(9?) Central Pillar 5.9 Reed Pinnacle Direct 5.9 Commitment 5.8/9 Maxine Wall and Peruvian Flake 5/9+ I’d say that in general the easier Valley routes aren’t as good as the harder ones. Consider stopping at Lover’s Leap!
  21. read: did much more than he had to... (and probably more than he should have) Let's see FS the man made a promise took the money with his promise being relied on and completely fails to perform and you really believe that aplogizing and refunding the money was (1) more than he had to do and (2) more than he should have done? I say both those actions are the minimum what he should do. He failed at his end of the bargain. Did this post unfairly screw him? Who knows? If I was expecting a bag from him next week just before I went to Alaska would I be worried right now? Yes. Would I be glad that this was posted? Yes. I'd be on the phone right now chatting with him. May this post unfairly represent his business pratices? Of course but how is this different from someone complaining about poor mail order service from some other company or even REI? Are small guys always off limits? Just some questions. PP
  22. I am outta here. Off to 38 to scam some quick climbing. Not my first choice but nowhere near my last. PP
  23. Well I would suggest that some people would never care about either the Alpine Buddy of the Week of the Climber of the Month. I can offer you some of the reasons I care. 1. It’s just fun for me to find out about what others are doing. Whether they are 5 or 5,000 miles away. 2. It is fun to learn how our climbing “traditions” came to be and how the people who helped develop them actually thought about the whys and the hows of climbing. 3. It is fun to learn about the climbing traditions/history of an area before I go and climb there. The reasons listed above are all centered around “fun” but there are practical reasons too. For example when I learn about Tom Higgens and how he viewed climbing I can make good guesses as to how his route will be protected. Same goes for Chris Cantwell. Tom’s would tend to be runout and Chris’s well protected. Learning about the great Russian climbers inspires me to become a better climber. I say: Dwayner revive that Alpine Buddy of the Week! PP
  24. Fuel for thought. Nice Link where the graph came from PP
  25. H.C.-gazing Timmy.....could you do the same for sport-climbing and bouldering? thanks! - Dwayner P.S. quit lookin' over here....I's seen you gazing! Dwayner - I know it seems logical to have a forum for each of these super cool things but in earlier thread it was decided that they all should be combined into the new forum. Keep the posts coming. PP
