  1. Unbelievable! PP
  2. As originally defined class was only loosely alligned with difficulty and was specifically defined with manner of climbing. (ie how belays were set up, when hand holds stated to be used) Consequences of a fall can be deadly anywhere. The clearest example of this is some of the trails in Zion National Park. In many places a slip on one of these trails would result in a huge fall and certain death. Yet this would still be class 2. When first created all 5th class routes were rated merely "5th class" There was no distinction between 5.0 and 5.8, for example.
  3. 4th class also assumed the use of ropes but no protection being placed. Third class assumed no ropes at all. Thus the expression “I third-classed Butterballs” means I climbed it w/o ropes. Less common is the phrase “4th classed” but if something was runout especially at the top of a climb it is often just called 4th class. PP
  4. Nope, but that crag has several good routes on it. (if you mena the wall by then old mine) 3-5 pitches. Pain to get to now. Plus it is granite Calender crag isn't.
  5. No secret pic. Haven't been to it but I do have a copy of the guide. Location: south of Darrington north of Index. Sounds close to the center of the universe to me. Have fun in Calif. Hey I never hear anyone talk about thi srout ebut I had fun on table of contents
  6. Anyone been there? Has it bene developed since the "mini" guide was published? Is it worth a trip? PP
  7. P-Gates Rule! Plus West Buttress was freed! PP
  8. Sounds like a good weekend. Many years ago I made the same hike with my little ones. I remember because someone hiked up with a big dog and my oldest exclaimed, “look Dad a horse.” Baring looks cool but that approach? - I’d rather fly to Yosemite. Damn! TLG I think I am falling you! But I could never compete with RumR (or anybody for that matter) BTW Erik I am way FAT! Peter
  9. Thrashed my way to a cliff (imagine a hideous jungle) The cliff made Amazonia look like El Cap. Rapped off. Went home; had a beer.
  10. …acording to Peter Puget There is more talk about BBQs than climbing on this site! What did everyone do last weekend? Epics? Adventures? I was dragged to a really crappy crag. As a result I am applying the “3 strikes you’re out” rule to my goofy partner who wouldn’t know choss from perfection if they were staring him in the face. Of course Erik is the obvious exception to the rule! PP
  11. Erik they have free climbed all but the Nipple Pitch but claim that will go at 13d/14a. 1st 5 pitches are variations. PP
  12. Erik that's pretty close to Alpine climbing watch out! PP
  13. Saturday morning the Huber bros. did the route in 2:32. PP
  14. There are some larger cliffs but the stuff were on was all small probably one reason we didn't see evidence of other climbers. We spent only one hour in the am looking for cliffs and after seeing the cool rock at this crag we stopped looking and started climbing. As you can tell by the pics we were TR'ing. We had a drill and placed some anchors but after starting bolting a route thought that TR'ing was were it was at at this cliff. PP
  15. The pics are from just north of Spokane. Right outside Kettle Falls. Is it worth a drive? Depends on how much you like exploring. For me it is a blast and definately worth the drive. There are established areas over there. Marty Bland has written a really good guidebook to them. He also has a website. So spend a day exploring and one climbing. PP This picture shows the low angle section of the cliff.
  16. Private? I have made several posts regarding the fine service I received at Shoreline. Were they all inappropriate sharing of a private matter? Years ago I ordered from Mtn tools and always had fine service. Several months ago when someone was complaining about not being able to return merch to Feathered Friends I wrote to several online companies asking the following question as a test: If I purchased a helmet and it was thew wrong size could I return it? Most responded directly. Mtn Tools did not. Their response was let us help you decide and you won’t have the problem to begin with. I took that to be a sideways manner of saying no I couldn’t return the helmet. I decided not to make my purchase with Mtn Tools PP
  17. North of Spokane there are formations like this and better than this all over the area. The drive from Seattle is no longer than Smith. This cliff was visible from the main highway and a flat 100yd walk off a secondary road. The entire cliff was about ¼ mile wide and of varying height. About half was overhanging the rest slightly less than vertical with some bulges. PP
  18. You’re pretty close on your guess EriK. Oh wait, this is Sweet Renton Limestone. The real question is why everyone isn’t going nuts about it. Check it out! It isn’t that funky Utah stuff this stuff is straight from Verdon Gorge! Where is DFA when you need him? There is lots of this stuff out nearby. PP

    Music

DnD record is available! Not the Sylvian/Bailey disc. Which I am sure is not DND at all. By The way Dereck rules! He is kinda like the Fred Beckey of improvisational guitar.

    Music

Last night I went to a store looking for the new David Sylvian/Dereck Bailey collaboration. Alas I think the market for such music is way too small for a store to stock. But I did see Mr. Bailey has a Drum and Bass record that TLG should probably go buy and then report back concerning its quality. I did however buy the CD In A Silent Way (Miles Davis 1969) and drove home excited as I haven’t heard it since the 80’s. WOW What an amazing record. Sounds like it was recorded yesterday. Three keyboards (Josef Zawinal, Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea) Jon McLoughlin on guitar. Dave Holland on bass. Tony Williams on Drums! And don’t forget Miles himself. With all those egos there is an unbelievable amount of space between the instruments. GO BUY IT ON YOUR WAY HOME TONIGHT!!!!!] PP
  21. And you thought CC.com was bad for you....
  22. Bear! Bear! Bear!
  23. Where is your trip report? Stop waiting for that ROCK CLIMBING FORUM to be set up. (Although that i sreally where it should be) PP
  24. "The present euro zone structure is devastating for Germany," he says. "Our economy is bleeding. And I am convinced the UK would be crazy to join - you should stay out for as long as I can foresee." "Deflation has already arrived, in that our economic dynamism has disappeared," Nolling says. "There is no willingness among the private sector to invest, and euro zone rules have cut back public investment to an extent we haven't seen since the war." PP
