I would guess that, since his initial post incorrectly characterized the mostly supportive responses on their forum as dissapproving, he's not thrilled. I believe you are incorrect. I did not “characterize” the thread but rather made a general statement regarding the feedback she has been getting. The thread was created as a response to offline negative feedback. The thread itself contains both negative and supportive feedback. Sharpen up!

No time to pull up quotes but I am pretty sure Greenspan was for both the 2001 cuts and 2003. He was for the 2001 cuts pretty much without reservation and wanted spending limits imposed as a condition of the 2003 tax cuts.

ChucK – Not much free time but… 1) Didn’t Bush have several set of tax reductions? Do tax cuts pay for themselves instantaneously? If not then the week after a tax cut is enacted I could claim that the tax cuts have not paid for themselves and be strictly speaking accurate. 2) Wasn’t the economic downturn several years ago on of the smallest on record despite 9/11, high oil prices and corporate scandals from the Clinton years. 3) Wash Post Quote: “A robust economy and a strong stock market deserve the bulk of the credit, the economists said, but tax collections are growing far faster than the economy as a whole, so those factors cannot completely explain the Treasury's good fortune or suggest how long it might last.” Those favoring the tax cuts would argue that the robust economy and strong stock market are to a material degree the result of the tax cuts! 4) Hasn’t the household survey of employment been growing quite robustly? This might be because of strong growth LLC and Subchapter S companies – entrepreneurs unleashed by the tax cuts. 5) In the past I have linked to several studies from respected organizations showing that the tax cuts have been successful. 6) You might find it interesting to look at CBO projections of several years ago. By the way I am not a trickle down guy. I am for everyone have as much freedom as possible! Free minds and free markets!

What’s your favorite climbing trip and why? Mine was one to sunny So. Cal. where we climbed the Vampire, Insomnia, Valhalla and I took a screamer on a funky pin on Etude. Fantastic climbs in the sun after a long winter! Just feeling warm clean rock would have made he trip a success but these routes made it stellar. Checkin' airfares as I write......

There is a small chance I have some in my garage from the 80s. They are yours if you want them.

I think Joseph was typing a bit fast. I am fairly sure that WT did not exist in the 70s. About 18 months ago I was climbing with a friend and commented on how I thought a sling tied to a cam seemed to be getting a bit old. My partner replied that he could remember exactly when he acquired the sling. It was in the Valley in ’77 – he took the sling off of xxxxx’s Jumar. As soon as I was on the ground again untied the sling and beat it with a rock. Climb safe.

Last weekend I at a friend’s house I saw some old Vantage pictures. (80-86/7) One was of an early ascent Red M&Ms. The first thing I noticed was that there was no chalk. T he second was that the route seems to have changed a bit over time. Comparing my friend's pics to this one in the CC.com Gallery clearly shows a significant “new” hold. I bet there is more than just one. Anyone else have any old RED MM pics?

No analogy is perfect but this one is not nearly as bad as you are pretending. Your last sentences is fairly ambiguous; however, it should be obvious to anyone after destroying the exiting plotical structure in Iraq, after destroying its armed forces and after watching the country become more and more consumed with internal conflict we have been for sometime able to "hand" Iraq over to Iran. Whether over the long term they can hang onto it is of course another story. Very recent Sunni/Arab statements should indicate make it clear that take the possibility of Iraq becoming a Iranian dominated country very seriously.

Not really what has been proposed is the US meet with Syria and Iran on ways to bring peace to the region. Iran has long held itself out as the protector of the Shia. (Germany held itself as protector of the Germans stranded in a country that resulted in a breakup of the multi-cultural empire.) Proposals have been made that we speak directly to the Iranians - bypassing the Iraqis themselves. After getting into a mess many seem to more than willing to effectively hand over Iraq to Iran. I guess cheap is relative; however, for perspective youirstated figure of $8billion/month is slightly less that Proctor & Gamble's net income for the year.

My quote: I wasn't bringing it up as a topic for discussion. Your last sentence does merit one comment tho. Bush and Co (along with Australia) argued that there was no imminent dnager in the traditional sense of the term in international law. They were arguing that in the modern age existing international law no longer worked. They proposed a new standard. This was an explicitly stated. So in a sense they would agree with you.

jeez, is there anyone who thinks the US is winning? You don't have to spin anything to tell the truth: The US isn't just losing, the US has LOST. Plain and simple. And now the right clutches at straws on their long ride down... I remember some at this site so in favor of the war, and how the noble US had brought "democracy" to Iraq; how silent they are now.... the point of my post is not whether or not we are winning...it was the blatant cherry pick of the article's author. like i said...at least other outlets covered their cherry-pickin ass by not contradicting their own headline. why couldn't the author use the headline "neither winning or losing in iraq" instead of "not winning..." And you are right!
