i carry 'biners that i've found, but last summer i also started carrying quicklinks (like below). useful for both setting up rap anchors and bailing. definitely much cheaper than 'biners and you can buy 'em as beefy as you want. any hardware store should carry a selection.

i haven't done any rock climbing since the end of october.

who said i didn't enjoy the climb? the descent in the dark wasn't overly fun, but the climb itself was great. it was just the aftermath (after leaving the trailhead on the way out) that was disturbing.

right on, smiley! nice work on your first multi-pitch lead and in the valley no less. what an incredible place - ditto for me on that first view of the cap. every time seems like the first time all over again ...

ha, ha ... what an entertaining tr. i'm glad to hear you're still gung-ho to do it again after that experience! the valley can be a sweet place to be - even if you don't get to do all the climbing you'd like.

why don't you just use a reverso? you can run pairs of skinnies through it. the rap is a little fast but there's lots of ways to slow that down. i just wouldn't want to use the autolock feature with a single strand. or do you not have one? or do you just want to buy more gear? i'll probably be adding a reversino to my rack this summer ...

trailrunning of some sort - you know, something where agility and balance come into play might be useful and fun. skateboarding is fun, too ... but man can it hurt!

i've never seen a bear outside of the zoo.

bummed i couldn't make it either. my car's got a date with the mechanic before i'll be driving it back over the border. :-( can't wait to read the tr, though!
