  1. not all things that suck are bad. (ask hugh grant)
  2. Yet still let's moisture through "micropores" in the fabric, while remaining "waterproof."
  3. Crampons are always a good idea to take with you on adams, never can be sure of the snow/ice conditions. I actually camped below the Lunch Counter right before the hill to the LC, it was nice with some trees around. have fun, be safe, and if you can find someone to go with that has some experience, this makes for a good time to learn some of the techniques you will need for other mountains. sean
  4. boy oh boy, what's next, two lobe cams?
  5. I put a new sticker on my subaru every year, I think the next one will be 2004.
  6. I did it in July, not much glissading except over some nasty looking snow bridges. Routefinding isn't that bad, especially with snow on the ground. The biggest problem was finding your campsite in between all the huge boulders!! Definately keep to the right and you should be fine, and the snow should make it nice (unlike scree) Have fun! sean

  9. I think I've participated in many of the "camera" discussions. I have an N70, N90 and a Minolta Srt202 fully manual camera. the N70 is light and works great with good lenses, it doesn't focus as fast as the N90, but it is (relativly) cheap and therefore if I drop it on the rocks and it shatters, I won't cry over the body, just the lense. the N90 is heavier, and also works great. has a few extra features (including DOF preview). The body is built from magnesium so it is really stout. If I drop it it will probably survive to shoot again, although I will miss the lense. The SRT-202, relatively light for an all metal chasis, only takes one small battery for the light meter and lenses are way cheap used, but manual focus. If I drop it, it will survive, and has, even the lenses are more durable. I guess what it boils down to for me is I'll take the extra weight for the quality of pictures/ and equipment that I need. I'll usually take my N70 and a 50mm and a 70-300 tele on glacier/snow slogs, and the N90 on rock climbs with the 70-300 and a flash. the SRT goes backpacking with a tripod and flash. I guess I'm not a weight freak and will gladly carry a few extra pounds if I think I'll need the equipment. sean

  15. Just saw your post and registered. I am kinda pissed they won't allow Mt.Si or Tiger Mtn. and yet Bachelor is up there... You stirred up a big ole mess of flies over there. Maybe we should invite the Summitposters to a big ole Pub Club smackdown style!!! sean
  16. ok , just being devils advocate here, but didn't most of us just finish ranking on Christine Boskoff for allegedly driving a Land Rover she may or may not have paid for herself.....
  17. I think a few years back, I got a seperate catalogue that was climbing only. It had all the gear and looked like the Mountain Gear catalogue. That was cool, they offered discounts on bulk, and a dividend. Does REI still have a more technical catalogue? I still buy most of my gear in spokane at Mountain Gear, but for larger purchases where the 10% actually is substantial, I will buy something at REI. As a side note, my buddy went into REI after xmas with his dividend, and a couple of Gift cards to buy a new Marmot Alpinist jacket and wanted to use his dividend and the 10% off, the jacket was not in stock, so the customer service (haha) person told him to special order it would cost him $25, in case he did not want it when it came in, and he would not recieve the 10% dividend on a special order. that sucked. He ended up cashing out the divident and certs and buying the jacket at Marmot. oh well. Jules, thanks for posting. I hope REI will get some of this feed back and act on it. Sean
  18. john roskelley, also a mountaineer.
  19. Yeah, I don't really feel like killing anyway, I'll save that for the AquaFag.
  20. kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill !
  21. I don't think that the all of the mountaineers suck, just the ones that I too have encountered with the "i own this (rock, crevasse, mountain)" attitude. There's not many basic course instructors that I would want to lead me up anything. One year in the mounties basic course could not have taught them enough to be "Alpine Instructors". I have way more respect for the RMI guys.
  22. I just thought that I would post to see if there were any of you yahoos going down to Phoenix. I will be leaving the Wed before and be back the following Wed. There's two of us in a huge suburban and if any wants to tag along and hit some other climbs on the way down hop aboard, it shoud be kinda fun... (serious inquires only... ) sean
  23. I have a set of chrome BD deely-bobbers. they attach to my helmet right in front of the dual beer can holders (Pabst or Busch). That way I don't look like the gumby dork I truly am.
