If I wore a large, I'd buy those BD Drytool gloves off of slothrop. I have a pair and have used them for ice climbing, general mountaineering, skiing and mtn biking for a couple of years. The leather is wearing through on the finger tips now but they've held up to abuse pretty good. I belive I paid about $29.99 on www.sierratradingpost.com (still see them there from time to time). They are $59.00 on the BD website. These would be similar to the Arcteryx gloves you mentioned (softshell & leather construction) I also have a pair of the BD windstopper gloves and they are not nearly as durable or weather proof but are more comfortable and nice for cool weather hiking and running. I never really noticed they take longer to dry but, I guess that would make sense considering the windproof membrane. Probably not a big deal if you're only out for the day. Other glove makes to check out: www.cloudveil.com www.mec.ca www.marmot.com www.patagonia.com Like everyone else said, there's no one perfect glove out there so you should accept the fact that you may eventually end up with half a dozen different gloves. I find that I buy a new pair to replace some old worn out gloves and decide that maybe I can keep the old gloves as "back ups".

I've had mean cows chase me from time to time while crossing farmer's fields to fish in their streams, but other than that, I ain't scared of cows.

I wish the local ironworkers union would have sent some of those scrawny guys out the the job I working and crossing their picket line. Those were some big boys. I think union iron workers must get more rest or don't work as hard because a lot of them are pretty thick bastards (and rude as well!). Of course the loudmouth trying to start most of the fights was the smallest of all but you knew if you touched him you would get dogpiled by the big dudes. That would hurt. I think they all drove little Geo Metros.

Good deal! I just put in my two week notice so I can dedicate my career to taking internet IQ tests! Wait a minute, I just got my confirmation email and it said I only scored 21. I guess the only answer I got right was entering my email address correctly. Oh well, back to the grindstone.

I scored 201. Is that good?

HRoark, I'm pretty slow, but I looked at your stupid avatar picture and when crossreferenced with this post duplicating several you've made in the past, I now know your secret identity and will be notifying the DEA, CIA as well as Immigration and OffWhite. You are so busted

Mainly becasue it's so scary looking!!! If I do climb it this year, look for a very long cheastbeater trip report!

Ken: I was referring to the North Face of the North Peak of Mt. Index (NFNP) as I am a lazy person and will abreviate whenever possible. The route is described in a few different guide books and has a reputation for being popular when it's "in". I think it's Grade III - V, 5.7+, WI3+. Plan to bivy. Now that I've typed that out in plain letters and numbers, I think I'll just scope it out from HWY 2 for another season.

But Holmgren has to go. I'm tired of pining Seattle's playoff hopes on a combination of other teams losing. I hear Burger King is looking for new employees.

Well, time for your pre-climb chestbeat. It's the first day of winter, what's everybody planning to flail around on? With any luck - Scaling some rocks out at Index when it's sunny and warm. Little Tahoma on my skis. Knock down some ice around Bozeman. The steeper Coulior on the N Face of Colchuck. [/start token nemises climb] Maybe scratch around on the NFNP of Index if we get good conditions. [end token nemises climb/] Poach tele skiier's lines whenever possible

I'd rather pound a pin in each side of the tree and rap off of those.

Why cant these candy asses just buck up and maintain their commitments? I really get pissed when I'm on a climb and someone gets hurt just short of the summit and pusses out. "Put a tourniquet on it you baby!" Seriously, you guys who's lives revolve around climbing and stuff need to get some perspective. Some people have family's, jobs and sometimes, out of the blue, shit happens. Sounds like a control freak group session in here. Not calling to cancel however, is grounds for a minimum of 10' of penalty slack, DOAE, (depending on actual excuse). I hate that

Guys, guys, guys! Under the terms of the Patriot Act, if the Attorney General orders you rescued, he doesen't have to give a reason or give you an attorney after the rescue.

I'm with Dustin, maybe the break in the weather will allow the snow pack stability to catch up with all the new snow. And, it is pretty nice out, the attatched photo is the view out my office window a few minutes ago.

So you're saying Saddam is not a war criminal?

brown-noser Shhh...I noticed one of my posts was moderated yesterday and figure I'm on the shit list and very close to being banned so I have to kiss up to the brown shirts for now. Delete this private message right away so they don't read it.

You guys are all mean and nasty bastards as far as I'm concerned. Except Jon and Tim. They rock.

I was thinking about this yesterday when I heard this stunning new. Isn't the economic growth rate based on the same quarter's growth of the previous year? I know that's what most major corporations base their sales growth on. Anyone want to make a guess on what the GDP growth rate was last year? Hmmm? How about the year before that? Here's what I found on 4th quarter: 2001 GDP growth -1.0% (recession) 2002 GDP growth +0.7% 2003 GDP growth +5.6% I only went to community college, but I think I could accurately say the growth has only been 5.3% over the last THREE years. This may infact be a case of my man GW shooting himself in the foot, DOH!

What to do for "climber's elbow/arm"??
Bronco replied to maryk's topic in Fitness and Nutrition Forum
maryk: I had a very similar injury this fall (pain in the lower left tricep then inside elbow pain) and it lasted about a month. The injury occured because I started this insaneo rope climbing regiment. Stopped the rope climbing for about a month and RICEd it until it hadn't hurt for about a week. I'm back to climbing with no problems. Ice immediatly after a hard workout though. Good luck. -
Have you looked at the www.summitpost.com message board?

I'd also have to comment on the common misperception that all ammunition is created equally. I was curious about this so I took your typical Naval Orange out to a clear cut and shot it up (8 rounds) with standard 9mm ball (target) type ammo. It left 1/4 inch holes going completly through and was not impressive. One Hydroshock later, the biggest piece of orange I could find was a piece of the peel about the size of a fifty-cent piece. Hydroshock is a "personel defense" round designed for making big holes in soft squishy things like Oranges or human bodies. The lawyer was pretty lucky, a lot of people have been mortally wounded with less than a .38. I seriously doubt he took a bullet to the forehead at point blank range, more likely he was grazed while juking back and forth or hit by a piece of flying bark from the tree.
