  2. Some party in the bar reported climbing Salmon Stakes even though it is as thin as I have ever seen it! Loren how do you know the party was in Marble both days if you were on Night N gale one day??? you got spies or something? [ 01-21-2002: Message edited by: Dru ]
  3. The first few issues of GRIPPED were OK but lately it has become a total toilet roll. On the up side at least I have something nasty to review for the CAJ!
  4. If you are reslinging cams get them to sew on a double sling like the new DMMs/Trangos etc. instead of an old single sling. Or just get some Spectra/tech Cord and resling yourself if you dont mind a cluster@$#%&*! double or triple fishermans on your sling.

    Must See

unless you went to columbine in which case a few rounds probably did whip by your head in 10th grade algebra....
  8. Guiding high peaks trivializes them. Lets say you wanna do Everest these days - and you are trying to raise some $$$ for a light weight alpine style expedition to the Kangshung face... then it turns out your postman, your mayor and your dentist's wife have all been guided up the normal route and Everest is so common place that no one will fund you cause guiding Everest has made the peak BORING Actually I think guiding in general is not a good thing but there are some people that want to make money and climb and if they can find people willing to pay them to climb with them, more power. as long as they dont start offering Guided First Ascents then dragging clients up my secret projects!
  9. Here is some name dropping - I drank with forrest_m, W, Lamebone, vegetablebelay, erik and tom-the-lurker at Mugs and Jugs on the weekend. The lurker picked up the tab! If only everybody that lurked on this site did that I would be forever!
  10. Speaking as a Canadian, GRIPPED is a lame ass bitch rag of a magazine put out by Ontario sprt heads and exists only to glorify the latest V6 done by some wannabesponsored idiot in Halifax. GRIPPED SUCKS!!!!! If you think Gripped is what magazines should be like THINK AGAIN CAUSE GRIPPED SUCKS!!!
  11. I got a whole rack of hexes I never use anymore... also a #5 and #7 Tri Cam... an 0.5 solid shafted Friend made from TITANIUM, circa 1980... a full set of Titons, never placed, still with the out-of-business gear store price tags on them... a rope from 1989 that still gets rappelled on when cleaning routes... Lowe RATS... Irbis 3-tooth titanium screws with pop-top hangers.... but Andy Cairns takes the prize. He was too modest to mention that he has "quick draws" made of two oval biners with a tied Supertape sling and that he uses them on 5.12 sport routes at Cheakamus and Pet Wall much to the consternation of the predominantly young crowd there.

  13. What about the guy at Michelmoon Falls that said that Ice Climbers Stole His Dog?? I would carry a gun too. Lyle's beta-demo version 2.3 Ice Map shows the property line and how to hike around on public land to reach the ice.

Rodchester you still havent told me how come those guys arent GREAT??? I mean they are in 50 Favorite Climbs as being in the top 50 of North American climbers?? wha da fa? you complain about ppl dissing Chris Boskoff in a forum she dont even read but you are harshing on these guys by saying they arent GREAT?? what kind of respect level is that huh?
  16. get Beckey drunk sometime and have him tell you about finding the suitcase full of cash in the plane crash wreckage on Slesse back in the 60's.
  17. Boulder Falls - approach ice is all in but the WI3 pitches hidden up in the box canyon are not Plan B - in enough to climb but probably not to get pro in, so just solo it. Oregon Jack - in nicely. an enterprising local youth will show you the best way to hike in for $5 if you cant manage to follow the line of tracks in the snow. the road was plowed on Sunday. was -10 overnight and below freezing all day at OJ.
  18. My friend Guy stole a spoon from Big O and left it in the big dyno pocket on Toxic at Smith once.
  19. Hey Cavey take some throat drops along cause shouting at the top of your lungs to be understood takes its toll on the vocal chords.

  21. "If anybody is doing the Diamond on Bear Mountain, look out for the loose block on the 17th pitch". See if Jon and Tim were doling out $$$$ like Quokka did maybe we could hire some LEGENDS to email us from a portaledge on Trango Tower and tell us who works in the 7-11s in Pakistan .
  22. Granny knot? One has left over right and right over left and the other one has left over right and left over right. Then the what knot & thief knot have loose ends on opposite side of the knot and reef and granny have both loose ends on the same side. Fern I will show you at ice fest.
  23. A wallet full of cash and a bag full of weed. Look under the Whistler chairlift.
  24. What about DUANE CONSTANTINO??? CATHERINE FREER??? (I seen her post here!!! ) Maybe DON CLAUNCH could log on and enlighten us as to why his last name changed from GORDON to CLAUNCH??
  25. quote: Originally posted by Ben: I like the single overhand knot for tying two ropes together for a rap. Mainly because it doesn't seem to get hung up as often, but also for the looks people give you when they see you using it. Not a fancy knot, but useful once you get over the psychological issues... Please refer to this knot by its technical name, the Euro Death Knot or EDK!!! My favorite knot has got to be the "what knot", which I first encountered in a topology article in Scientific American. It is to the square knot what the thief knot is to the reef knot, if that makes sense.... Its also totally useless. The double-bunny-ears figure 8 is kinda fun to tie. The highwayman's bight is pretty good for a quick release knot! I bet it would be handy for rapping with one lead rope and 60m of 2mm accessory cord too.
