therunningdog Posted November 16, 2015 Posted November 16, 2015 Does anyone know if there is a statistical compilation out there of first ascents in the Cascades and who has done them? I am doing a "book report" and am curious who is #2, #3, #4, #5, #6, #7, #8, and #9 behind Mr. Beckey. Thanks for any info you might have! Tim Quote
primate Posted November 16, 2015 Posted November 16, 2015 Search cc.com (I'm too lazy to tangle with the google); there was a thread some years back. IIRC, Lage Wernstedt is by far #1 with Fred #2. Quote
Rad Posted November 17, 2015 Posted November 17, 2015 Sounds interesting. What kinds of FAs are you talking about? Alpine summits via all routes, including class 2-4 scrambles? multi-pitch rock routes? Ice? Single pitch rock? Alpine mixed? You'll likely get different answers for each category. I suspect pulling data for any one will involve sleuthing through AAJ, Beckey guides and other books, and more modern internet sources. Look forward to seeing the results. Quote
Blake Posted November 17, 2015 Posted November 17, 2015 I just hope it was someone with a classy first name. Something like Claunch, Ome, Wolf, Lage, or Helmy. Quote
telemarker Posted November 17, 2015 Posted November 17, 2015 Hasn't Brian Burdo done 90% of them? Quote
origin_ing Posted November 22, 2015 Posted November 22, 2015 Pete Doorish is the only person who comes close to Beckey IMO. Would love to know more about him. Quote
Alex Posted November 22, 2015 Posted November 22, 2015 Pete Doorish is still around, you know. He is not that hard to get ahold of, and he isn't that old, either. He is a very quiet understated guy, and a good pianist! Quote
wayne Posted November 30, 2015 Posted November 30, 2015 (edited) I Haaaaaate vague questions like this, but I'll bite. There are many different sports-within-the sport Peak bagging FAs: Roper, or Lage tough alpine rock routes: Brian Burdo or Doorish Traverses: yours truly Alpine ice and mixed routes: not sure Old school classic lines: Fred Beckey Last Great problems: Rolf Larsen, Eric Wehrley FWA: not sure Sport: Burdo/Yoder Edited December 10, 2015 by wayne Quote

therunningdog Posted December 5, 2015 Author Posted December 5, 2015 Thanks for your input folks! Super stoked to learn about good ol' Lage Wernstedt. And, really sorry to ruin your day, Wayne! Anyways, of course there are many different categories, and categories of categories. I was curious about all types of first ascents, which is why I was vague about it. After asking a ton of people, a few of whom have started lists or thought of starting a list...alas, I have found nothing remotely comprehensive for any "category"... Always fun to dig in a do a little research, though. Through my efforts I discovered a bunch of new places to explore in this beautiful place we live! Happy Holiday, All! Quote
CascadeClimber Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 I still want to know who got all the FAs on that sweet granite in Renton. Quote
