BriceBurtonImag Posted May 16, 2014 Posted May 16, 2014 What are your plans for memorial day weekend? What are you climbing? Any recommendations? Quote
BriceBurtonImag Posted May 20, 2014 Author Posted May 20, 2014 Pretty new to the PNW, so im looking at hitting up the enchantments the first time for the long memorial day weekend. Base camping, then doing some day climbs. Never been to the area, any suggestions on a good base camp site to access a number of climbs. not sure what climbs im going to do yet due to unsure route conditions. looking at Dragontail, colchuck, Prusik, any other must do's? Â Those will be covered in snow. Snow Creek Wall should be fine, but it will be CROWDED. Icicle Creek had more climbers than ticks last weekend! (And I saw plenty of ticks) Quote
ivan Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 holy shit, after many years of thinking about it, mayhap st peters dome? Quote
AlpineK Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 Not really known for trad climbing, but crags weren't crowded with climbers in Mazama last weekend. Then again the upcoming 3-day weekend might be different. Quote
curtveld Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 looking at Dragontail, colchuck, Prusik, any other must do's? A friend did Colchuck last weekend via the Glacier and said conditions were good. Plus the permit season for overnighting hasn't started yet. Â Good place to look look around at bigger challenges for next time too Quote

dave schultz Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 I don't think the alpine rock route in the Enchantments will be too snow covered, but perhaps more likely too cold to really be enjoyable. Â SW Rib was climbed on SEWS last weekend ... this weekend should have less snow, especially in the Enchantments. Quote
Sol Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 Acid Baby, Valkyrie, Solid Gold, South Face, and Der Sportsmen good to go in the Stuart Range i'm thinking.. Â Quote
BriceBurtonImag Posted May 21, 2014 Author Posted May 21, 2014 ...Plus the permit season for overnighting hasn't started yet....Good place to look look around at bigger challenges for next time too  These were 2 main thoughts i had about the enchantments. Im dont mind seeing a few people but i would rather stay away from crowded crags. @Rad, your assumption wasn't incorrect, i am looking for rock routes but not limited to that.  I will have my wife with me so i wont be getting on any hard rock routes with her.  @dave schultz We have climbed the SW Rib on SEWS before so...looking for another area that we haven't visited. Seraphim Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 This coming weekend might be the best time to just stay home! Quote
