markwebster Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 (edited) I met Ammon two years ago in Jtree when he shared our campsite. He is a super fun guy to hang out with. He can tell a story like no one I've ever met. He recently had a base jumping accident. He put a big post on facebook, explaning it all in detail. But he also posted a youtube video. It bears watching. We think our adrenaline sports are safe...but there can be a price to pay. I'm not judging him, or base jumping as an activity...just sharing the news. He needs all the support we can give him. GRUESOME VIDEO - NOT FOR THE WEAK OF STOMACH [video:youtube] Edited October 31, 2013 by Off_White Quote
keenwesh Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 it's been reattached, the el cap pirate won't have a peg leg, as long as there isn't any infection. If I ever cut my foot off I hope I can be that chill. The guy is tough. Quote
ivan Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 i hate snuff-porn before 2 in the afternoon! Quote
dberdinka Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 The wherewithal he had to sit there and make a little movie is pretty fucking crazy. Thats one tough dude. Quote
Pete_H Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 We think our adrenaline sports are safe...but there can be a price to pay. I don't know too many of us that harbor any illusions that climbing or backcountry skiing is totally safe, even though some may not pay enough respect to the dangers at times. Also, I wouldn't lump BASE jumping in with climbing. Its a completely different sport and has completely different levels of danger and risk. I wouldn't even necessarily consider climbing or skiing an "adrenaline sport." Quote
ivan Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 on the bright side, his camera appears to be just fine Quote
Fairweather Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 ...and that Vasque Juxt he's wearing is on sale at REI for $99.00(for the pair). Seriously though, what keeps a guy like that from going into shock? Quote
genepires Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 countless hours doing A5 may be more stressfull than having your leg all mangled. it is amazing composure that I would not be able to handle. Quote
keenwesh Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 Ammon doesn't get stressed aid climbing... That's why he's so good. Quote
ZimZam Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 Px is obviously in shock. Hope it all turns out alright for him. That looks like a long road to recovery. ++++vibes Quote
glassgowkiss Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 Looks like he is NOT going to lose his foot, and he might make a full recovery! Quote
