glassgowkiss Posted August 27, 2013 Posted August 27, 2013 FEAR! I mean wtf? fire creating it's own weather? duh dumbshit- nothing new. Sequoiadendron giganteum are fucking FIRE RESISTANT! Yes dumb fuck, they actually NEED fire, so the cones can open. And this fire has nothing to do with global warming. How about misguided policy of fire suppression starting in 1974. How about clear cutting and replanting monocultures? How about people building houses in a middle of the forest. It's the same nonsense, with building on the flood planes. That whole article is just fear mongering at it's best. Quote
olyclimber Posted August 27, 2013 Posted August 27, 2013 Hopefully this fire can be put out before it burns up all the climbing routes...that would be a huge loss! Quote
rob Posted August 27, 2013 Posted August 27, 2013 You mean it's hard to fight fires in wilderness terrain? WHO WOULD HAVE THOUGHT???? OMG SAN FRANCISCO MIGHT LOSE THEIR WATER (but not really) Quote
G-spotter Posted August 27, 2013 Posted August 27, 2013 Charcoal filtration is GOOD for water! Jeez! Quote
KaskadskyjKozak Posted August 27, 2013 Posted August 27, 2013 Â ggk found something to get his panties in a bunch over. weird. Quote
AlpineK Posted August 27, 2013 Posted August 27, 2013 Seems like a general article fit for most city dwellers who don't go out in the woods at night. Rugged Outdoorsmen like GGK shouldn't waste their time reading stuff like that. Â [img:center]http://fc06.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2013/227/e/0/rugged_outdoorsman_by_bigbergman-d6iaxs7.jpg[/img] Quote
G-spotter Posted August 27, 2013 Posted August 27, 2013 Are all those pockmarks on that guy's belly bug bites, or is that where he injects the juice? Quote
AlpineK Posted August 28, 2013 Posted August 28, 2013 (edited) Of course there are these factors  [img:center]https://fbcdn-sphotos-c-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/1014226_10151782641332708_246495337_n.jpg[/img]  [img:center]http://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/expert_assessment/sdohomeweb.png[/img] Edited August 28, 2013 by Feck Quote
ivan Posted August 28, 2013 Posted August 28, 2013 but doesn't fire help fight global warming?!? like, all them heat-particles go up higher in the sky now, right, not on the ground no longer to bother us terrestrial types, yeah? Quote
olyclimber Posted August 28, 2013 Posted August 28, 2013 Well lets talk about nuclear pollution in the Pacific now. Quote
ivan Posted August 28, 2013 Posted August 28, 2013 on the other hand, i AM deeply afraid that this fire will burn all the shade that's so essential in keeping me from going postal while down there in 1000 degree heat Quote
Coldfinger Posted August 28, 2013 Posted August 28, 2013 And this fire has nothing to do with global warming. Â Really? You talk to folks in the wildland fire and forest management business and not only are conditions MORE dangerous, but fires are burning so hot that very few of the benefits of a "natural" fire in a "fire dependent" ecosystem accrue. Â Put another way, fires are now behaving in ways they often did not in the past, becoming much more dangerous and burning hotter. Â Round here trees are being killed even when there is no torching or crowning, just normal understory burns. Â It's actually really scary, but for none of the reasons you cite. Â Quote
G-spotter Posted August 28, 2013 Posted August 28, 2013 Well forests don't just become grasslands by themselves now do they? Quote
AlpineK Posted August 28, 2013 Posted August 28, 2013 Then there's our old buddy Mr./Ms. Mountain Pine Beetle. Â [img:center]http://csfs.colostate.edu/images/graphics/barkbeetlefadergraphic.jpg[/img] Â A long time resident of course. Lacking persistent -40 degree weather periods helps the MPB ranks grow in number. Longer growing seasons resulting from rising average temperatures allows for 3 growth cycles in one year. Â Of course once all the forests are dead and burned that may pose a problem. Quote
rob Posted August 29, 2013 Posted August 29, 2013 Well lets talk about nuclear pollution in the Pacific now. Â I think you mean nucular Quote
KaskadskyjKozak Posted August 29, 2013 Posted August 29, 2013 Â Can we bitch about the weather now? Quote
rob Posted August 29, 2013 Posted August 29, 2013 Wasn't GGK going to move away because he hated it here too much? Or because he doesn know how to ride a bike in the rain or something? Quote
rob Posted August 29, 2013 Posted August 29, 2013 I thought spray was dead? This is not good for my 12-step program. Quote
KaskadskyjKozak Posted August 29, 2013 Posted August 29, 2013 Wasn't GGK going to move away because he hated it here too much? Or because he doesn know how to ride a bike in the rain or something? Â Hey clownpuncher this is climber's site fucktrad jizslurper! Yur mom? Quote
G-spotter Posted August 29, 2013 Posted August 29, 2013 Wasn't GGK going to move away because he hated it here too much? Or because he doesn know how to ride a bike in the rain or something? Â He couldnt move because his bike was stolen so he has no means of getting away Quote
olyclimber Posted August 29, 2013 Posted August 29, 2013 Bike was stolen because the thief lost his job when the company he worked for needed to cut costs after reporting losses due to changing weather patterns. Â GLOBAL WARMING IS TO BLAME CASE CLOSED. Quote
