bigbro Posted December 8, 2002 Posted December 8, 2002 i was out at vantage today and witnessed a recovery effort of an individual, presumed dead. Supposedly this occurred near the Sunshine Wall. Not sure if it was a climber or not. Any news on this matter? Quote
MntnrMichael Posted December 8, 2002 Posted December 8, 2002 I am in E-burg (Ellensburg) and have heard nothing. I will start asking. Quote
SEF Posted December 9, 2002 Posted December 9, 2002 I heard it was a hoax. Something about a dummy duct taped somewhere. Quote
Paul_detrick Posted December 9, 2002 Posted December 9, 2002 Lucky told me it was a dummy under P.V. sounds like some one may have pushed it over. I will hear more at work today. Quote
pindude Posted December 9, 2002 Posted December 9, 2002 Indeed it was a hoax. A friend called the Grant Co Sheriff's office, this was part of his message to me: Â "Here's what I found out. The Grant County Sheriff's Office says this was a really Bad Prank. Apparently, they got a call to investigate the climbing area near the old Vantage Highway about 10AM Saturday Morning. Thought there was a body there. They had an EMS team, search/rescue folks, 4 deputies and Medstar out there looking. To say the least, it was very expensive and one deputy was injured after falling on the rocks. It turned out to be a shirt and pants stuffed with rags to look like a body. Any additional info, call Grant Co Sheriff's Office at 509-754-201 (ext 468)." Â I'd be using the thumbs down icon if it was still here. While whoever did it thought it must have been funny, it was really very short-sighted and pretty effing stupid. SAR and other rescue people put their lives on the line whenever they're called out, and in this instance a deputy got hurt. The idiots should be strung up. Quote
Cpt.Caveman Posted December 9, 2002 Posted December 9, 2002 That's fucked up Save the rescues for the real deal Quote
iain Posted December 9, 2002 Posted December 9, 2002 But only if it wasn't the climbers faults. If it was a mistake on the climbers' parts, let'em suffer like the miserable wretches that that are, bleeding on the rocks in humilating defeat. Quote
Greg_W Posted December 9, 2002 Posted December 9, 2002 Fuck it. Let's just give that piece of shit sport crag back to the indians we stole it from. Â Oops, wrong thread...sorry Quote
MntnrMichael Posted December 9, 2002 Posted December 9, 2002 (edited) The people who called it in should foot the bill. My taxes at work. The news over here has not mentioned the incident. Â I agree with pindude: The idiots should be strung up. Edited December 9, 2002 by MntnrMichael Quote
Dr_Flash_Amazing Posted December 9, 2002 Posted December 9, 2002 Â Wrong side of the argument too, putz. Quote
Greg_W Posted December 9, 2002 Posted December 9, 2002 Figured that would pull you out of the woodwork. Â Does anyone know if the Sheriff's department has any leads on the scumwaffle who set up the hoax? Quote
iain Posted December 9, 2002 Posted December 9, 2002 probably wears a turban and had couscous for dinner. Quote
salbrecher Posted December 9, 2002 Posted December 9, 2002 It's good practice for the rescuers next time there is a real accident. Better than a fake scenerio. Maybe someone will be saved quicker next time and the rescue worker who fell will get better shoes or trekking poles. Quote
sk Posted December 9, 2002 Posted December 9, 2002 stupid beyond reason... I am with cavey, save the rescue for the real thing! Quote
salbrecher Posted December 9, 2002 Posted December 9, 2002 Ya your right better to not practice... and hope things work out when the shit hits the fan. Quote
sk Posted December 9, 2002 Posted December 9, 2002 I'm not saying people shouldn't practice.... Just that those folks train verry hard for what they do, (my god father was a fireman for 30 years) And they don't need *HELP* figuring out how to train themselves. Had there been a real emergacy in that area at that time and the rescue units did not know that the fake one was fake someone could have died needlessly. Quote
salbrecher Posted December 9, 2002 Posted December 9, 2002 First off i'm sure they have enough units to handle more than one accident at a time and second there's no substitute for an unscripted accident to *HELP* improve skills. The more training the better. Quote
Necronomicon Posted December 9, 2002 Posted December 9, 2002 For some REAL fun, you should try throwing a scarecrow in front of a car. Quote
sk Posted December 9, 2002 Posted December 9, 2002 Have you ever worked for a volenteer fire department or anything like that??? I would be interested in if Iain and his crew apriciate it when people pull shit like this??? usualy I like what you have to say, but you are pissing me off Quote
salbrecher Posted December 9, 2002 Posted December 9, 2002 Why not nudge a *REAL* pedestrian off and make it more fun! Quote
salbrecher Posted December 9, 2002 Posted December 9, 2002 I have never worked for a volenteer fire department, I work at a movie theater . However when Lambone was rescued from glacier peak it was mentioned in that thread that the pilots actually enjoy the training and experience gained from such "rescues". Granted that the dummy was not a real accident and that it was a very stupid thing to do i still think it provides excellent training to those involved. Quote
sk Posted December 9, 2002 Posted December 9, 2002 In MY NEVER TO BE HUMBLE OPINION there is a gigantic diffrence between helping real people get out of a sticky situation and risking your life on what you thought was a person to find that it was rag stuffed clothing... Â I will forgive you if you take me to the movie oh, I guess we better take jk too Quote
