kinnikinnick Posted February 12, 2011 Posted February 12, 2011 I'm curious if any of you old timers have photographs/stories of first ascents in the Cascades. (Maybe there's a preexisting thread?) I've seen similar threads elsewhere but not so much here. I really enjoyed reading Matt Christensen's recent trip report on the first ascent of the Boving Route on Dragontail. Quote
CascadeClimber Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 I'm not an old-timer yet (I hope), but here are two in which I had a hand: http://www.cascadeclimber.com/theckroute.htm http://www.cascadeclimber.com/mt__formidable.htm Not a first ascent, but we climbed Willis Wall in 2006 on the first ascent route...I need to finish that TR. mountainmatt Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 Those are some awesome TRs CascadeClimber! Thanks for the story More please! . Quote
olyclimber Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 Good stuff, would like to hear the Willis Wall story. Quote
JasonG Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 Type in "First Ascent" in the TR search page under route and a few pop up....all will be recent FAs. I doubt there are many historic (however that is defined) FAs described on the board - the Dragontail Boving route thread is one of the few I can recall. Quote
kinnikinnick Posted February 14, 2011 Author Posted February 14, 2011 I was thinking of older, classic climbs that aren't already documented by a TR or webpage. Or just older photos of people climbing at places like Index. Quote
Jens Posted February 14, 2011 Posted February 14, 2011 Good stuff, would like to hear the Willis Wall story. Definitely a good adventure together! Quote

robert Posted February 18, 2011 Posted February 18, 2011 Check out Alpenglow for plenty of history of the Cascades. A bit more ski focused, but Lowell know about as much as anyone when it comes to Northwest mountaineering history. Quote
